2024 ANNUAL REPORT

DEAR DISTRICT STAKEHOLDER...

As we wrap up an incredible year in the LA Fashion District, I’m excited to share some highlights and accomplishments from 2024 and give you a glimpse into the promising year ahead. The dedication of our team and the guidance of our Board of Directors have made this a standout year, defined by progress, collaboration, and impact on our vibrant community.

This year, we have deepened our relationships with City Hall and strengthened connections with elected officials, advocating for the resources and policies essential to the growth and vitality of our district. Our enhanced presence in the policy arena has amplified our voice and influence, aligning the Fashion District with important initiatives that will shape its future.

Our Clean & Safe programs continue to be the heart of our daily work, ensuring that the district remains a welcoming and safe environment for all. From expanded patrols to new beautification projects, our Operations team has been on the ground every day, making sure that our streets, storefronts, and gathering spaces reflect the best of what the Fashion District has to offer.

The Marketing team has also had a great year, telling the Fashion District’s story through new campaigns, dynamic events, and vibrant content that has captured the attention of residents, visitors, and influencers alike. Their work has not only attracted attention but has also deepened the connection within our diverse community.

Looking toward 2025, we are preparing for an even more ambitious year. We plan to build on our advocacy work, further strengthening our partnerships with city officials to secure the resources and support needed for ongoing development. Our Clean & Safe programs will continue to evolve, with new initiatives focused on sustainability, accessibility, and community engagement. And with a renewed focus on marketing and events, we are excited to showcase the energy and innovation that define the LA Fashion District.

To our exceptional staff, thank you for your hard work, passion, and commitment. Your efforts drive our progress and make the Fashion District a place we can all be proud of.

To our Board of Directors, your leadership and vision have been invaluable. We look forward to your continued guidance as we move into this next chapter.

As you review this year’s Annual Report, you’ll see a story of collaboration, growth, and vision for a thriving future. Here’s to an exciting 2025, and thank you for your support and partnership in the journey ahead.

community services

In 2024, the Safe Team strengthened its efforts to keep the LA Fashion District secure, responding to over 200,000 calls for service, including 171,733 location checks and over 2,000 hospitality-related calls. Despite a citywide increase in violent crime, our district maintained relatively low levels, though property crimes such as vehicle thefts and break-ins remained a challenge. To combat this, the Safe Team expanded its Crime Suppression task force, deploying increased patrols that helped reduce property crimes and enhance safety for businesses and visitors alike.

The Clean Team continued to prioritize district-wide cleanliness and visual appeal, removing over 2,000 tons of trash and expanding graffiti abatement efforts to tackle over 14,000 tags. Together, the Clean & Safe teams have contributed significantly to making the LA Fashion District a more attractive and welcoming community.

Because of its unique shape, the intersection of Main, Spring and 9th streets became one of the most photographed intersections in downtown Los Angeles. In the early part of the 1900s, elevated booths on the median were used by the Los Angeles Railway and the Yellow Cars as a switchman’s tower to control the flow and path of streetcars through the intersection. All streetcar lines were removed by 1963.

This year, BID staff partnered with local artist S.C. Mero to transform the median into seasonal art installations. The median was beautifully transformed into a Turtle Island, Crow Haven, Turkey Club and a DTLA Snowman. BID staff hopes to continue the seasonal transformation of the median to continue building a better neighborhood for all.

for the community

In 2024, the LA Fashion District BID continued to elevate community engagement and public art through dynamic collaborations and cultural celebrations. Our ongoing partnership with local artist S.C. Mero brought new, captivating art installations to the district, adding vibrancy to our streetscapes. We also launched the Streetbox Art Project in partnership with 11:11 Projects, inviting artists from across Los Angeles to submit designs reflecting the “LA Fashion District” theme. These colorful street boxes now showcase the diverse artistic voices of LA, adding beauty and character to the public realm. Additionally, our annual Día de los Muertos Community Altar and Celebration, created in collaboration with Self Help Graphics, provided a meaningful space to honor loved ones. The celebration, featuring live performances by the talented, all-female group Mariachi Las Catrinas, was a memorable gathering for the entire community. Through art, tradition, and creativity, we are proud to foster a welcoming and culturally rich environment in our community.

policy updates

This year, we continued to focus on advocating for a balanced and adaptable DTLA2040 community plan while strengthening relationships with key elected officials. Our team worked closely with stakeholders to advance a vision that supports both growth and flexibility for the LA Fashion District, especially as the DTLA2040 plan’s final phases take shape.

Throughout the year, we engaged in policy discussions with the Planning and Land Use Committee (PLUM), emphasizing the need for adaptable land use policies that allow for sustainable growth while preserving the district’s unique character. We collaborated with stakeholders to advocate for essential revisions, such as adjusting space requirements for new development projects and promoting policies that encourage both residential and business growth.

Building strong relationships with policymakers continued to be a cornerstone of our work. We coordinated tours and discussions in the Fashion District with City Council members and other officials to keep them well-informed on the district’s needs and potential. These relationships ensure that the voices of our community and the LA Fashion District BID are represented in critical policy decisions. Looking toward 2025, we remain committed to pushing for a community plan that sustains growth and meets the evolving needs of our district’s residents, businesses, and vstakeholders.
