Let me share some wins in the form of facts and numbers:

In Circular Economy, we are the leaders in our industry in the recycling and re-use of resources with over 2 million tonnes per year - representing well over 50,000 truckloads re-used - with a public goal to double by 2026. When you compare this to the 20 million tonnes of waste Ontario & Quebec residents send to landfills you can get a sense of the important role we play.

In Climate, I’d like to highlight that we have set CO2 reduction targets for 2023/25/30 through a bottom up, collaborative, system approach - and Eastern Canada is on pace to meet the Holcim target 4 years early. In addition, Lafarge is the Canadian leader in gaining permits for low carbon fuels and now replaces 1050% of our fossil fuels with low carbon fuels at four of our five cement plants. And we were the first cement company in Canada to fully replace Ordinary Portland Cement with low carbon limestone cement at our

When I look at how far we have come as Lafarge Eastern Canada in committing our business to a sustainable strategy and goals, I can’t help but feel proud of our teams. There is certainly a lot to accomplish in the future, but today I want to acknowledge the work we have done together. For example, did you know that Lafarge has created a 4-pillar sustainability strategy unique to Eastern Canada’s context: Climate, Circularity, Water & Nature, and People & Communities?

Currently, when someone makes a complaint or request by email, text or cell phone typically there is the expectation of an immediate response; for example, we hear a ringing cell phone and we react, we receive a text and we react. Did you know that we receive on average 120 emails per day? Research has shown that we spend up to 28% of our day dealing with Instantthese.

When I started my first job in 1980, I entered a very different working culture compared to today’s, where communication was predominantly verbal, face-to-face, and directed to a specific individual or group. Cell phones did not yet exist, laptop computers were still concepts in the minds of geniuses like Steve Jobs, the Internet was still a U.S. military application called ARPANET, and the concept of Social Media and Video Conferencing was the stuff of Star Trek and Science Fiction. International communication was done via a Telex system, which consisted of ticker tapes typed by banks of Telex operators from handwritten messages that had been given to them. Therefore, it would often take two to three days to receive a

Why is this important? Simply because reaction time, communication, and feedback expectations were very different then. “We have worked on a comprehensive rehab plan that was developed in consultation with stakeholders from the local natural environment groups, the Province and local municipality. This plan was developed to ensure the final landform on the lands created a forested corridor to allow for the

“We are currently working on another portion of the property and importing topsoil from a different project in an effort to promote further growth and successfully plant trees once complete.

The ECAN Excess Soil team and the Land team have worked with the Ministry of Natural Resources for approval to import topsoil to enhance the natural vegetation along one of the slopes in the pit that was struggling with growth due to the sandy nature of the pit.

In February 2022, the Excess Soil team imported 3,000 tri-axle loads of topsoil from a customer's new housing development in North Oshawa that had formerly been a farmers field. As shown in the images, growth has taken off and it is now one of the most green areas in the pit.

Delay the start of the heating season

Here are a few other tips to maximize your energy savings this coming fall and winter: Get your furnace tuned up and safety checked Your furnace needs regular inspections and maintenance to ensure that it continues to operate at maximum efficiency. The cost of an annual tune up is far less than the cost of a repair or replacing a furnace that has not been properly maintained. Replace your furnace air filter

ENERGY SAVING TIPS FOR THE COMING HEATING SEASON

Top up the insulation in your home

As the summer draws to a close, it’s time to turn our thoughts to the upcoming heating season. Most of us have already installed a programmable thermostat in our homes. These units are great because they automatically adjust the heating and cooling of your home based on the day of the week and the hour of the day. These thermostats can significantly reduce the amount of energy used by your furnace and air conditioning systems, which translates into energy savings and money in your pocket.

Change your air filter every three months and more often in the winter. This will ensure that your furnace fan doesn’t work as hard to move the air through your home.

Consider delaying the start of the heating season (i.e. your thermostats heating program) until October 1 st , or wait until the outside temperatures dip to below 20 C.

Open the blinds and curtains on windows facing the sun to let the sun warm the inside of your home during the day. Later on, close the blinds and curtains to keep the heat inside.

Having the right amount of attic insulation can offer significant energy savings. If necessary, have additional insulation added to your attic space. Also check for air leaks around doors, windows and electrical boxes. Use caulking or expanding foam sealant to reduce the amount of air infiltration.

• Cement is the primary manufactured component of concrete, so this cement will be used to produce the first 100% recycled concrete.

In June 2022, Holcim produced the world’s first clinker made entirely of recycled minerals at its plant in Altkirch, France.

Driving a circular economy in construction means not only reducing the consumption of natural resources (and the CO2 footprint that comes with it), but also eliminating waste. The challenge is to identify reliable supplies of recyclable building materials.
