La Farga has seen many changes within the teaching-learning process over the past ten to fifteen years. Society is changing and demanding more of our pupils and one of these demands, if not one of the most important, is the necessity to commmunicate in english. Here in our school huge steps have been taken to improve our pupils’ capacity, both in written and oral skills. One of these steps is the introduction of the language in other subjects like art and crafts, music and sport, increasing the amount of time in which our pupils are exposed to another language giving them the opportunity to participate, and enjoy while at the same time, the satisfaction of comunicating with other people in english. Cambridge exams were introduced with the objective of improving, even further the four main areas-reading writing, listening, speaking-and a steady progression has been made is these areas.However our main aim as
regards these exams consists in an increase in the number of pupils sitting for these exams and hopefully, with the help and collaboration of pupils,teachers and parents, we may achieve this goal over the next two years. As we can see, these and other steps have helped in the success rate in primary level but having said that there always exists room for improvement.All parties involved in the teaching of english need to work together to achieve this aim. Different points of view and criticism have and will always exists as to the best way in which our pupils may learn english and this in turn enriches everyone involved. However our ‘differences’, sometimes have to left to one side if we are to achieve our ultimate goal. Finishing off on a lighter note from a well known song: ‘…its been no bed of roses no pleasure cruise …consider it a challenge… and we ain’t gonna lose….’
