Molly McIntyre

Inducted into the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame

Molly McIntyre has been recently inducted into the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

Molly was an official from 1989 - 2013 at the provincial, national, and international levels. She also had an important role in the development of the sport through running lacrosse clinics, evaluating and mentoring officials, as well as designing programs.

Marisa Di Bari, currently a Canadian Official and Director of Marketing and Communications at Lacrosse Canada, shares the importance Molly had in hers and many other lives within women’s lacrosse:

For many officials in women's lacrosse - not just domestically but internationally as well, Molly McIntyre made us fall in love with officiating. She made the experience of officiating - whether an easy or tough game, an experience as a team. We always knew that with Molly we were supported and believed in.

She taught us that the game was about the players and that we were there to help make it safe and fair. Molly taught us the value of being a team, and having each other's backs not just in a game but outside of the game as well She was never someone to put herself first and talk about her achievements, but she was the first to celebrate her teammates and their accomplishments. She taught us the value of excellence and always reminded us that 50% of the fans won't like your call even when you are right Her ability to bring strength, poise and knowledge to the game which still cracking a few jokes here and there always made for a wonderful assignment.

“Molly was my first mentor, she taught me to believe in myself as an official and know that every game was a gold medal game and it deserved that quality of officiating. Each time I received a World Lacrosse nomination I would have a phone call, and email and a mailed letter from Molly wishing me the best for the event and telling me how proud she was of me Molly paved the road for us and taught us to be a team, support each other and always stand up for our rights. I always say, I would not be me, without Molly and I know that is true for so many of us in Women's Field Lacrosse. I will forever be grateful for everything Molly has done for us and am honoured to be one of the recipients of the Molly McIntyre Award” shares Marisa, regarding her personal experiences with Molly.

Growing the Heritage

The Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame

The purposes of the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame, a not-for-profit corporation of Canada, are to:

Foster and promote the game of lacrosse and to stimulate the publicinterest of the game in Canada

Promote and develop community spirit by the encouragement of athletics, and particularly the game of lacrosse

Honour the tradition of lacrosse from its very roots, with displays honouring the Creator’s game, First Nations, and the sport of modern life.

The Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame, chartered in 1964, honours Players, Builders, Officials and Teams through an Annual Induction Process. Induction of new members is made to preserve the memory of the stars of yesteryear.

We preserve the finer traditions of the game in the form of an honour roll of former players, inducting them into a Hall of Fame as persons best exemplifying the spirit of friendly rivalry and personal consideration together with prizes, awards, and other distinctions relative to the game of lacrosse. We create a permanent record, physical and virtual, and showcase events so that the most impactful and best players, builders, officials, and teams, are not only remembered, but serve as inspiration to all Canadians and to lacrosse communities worldwide.
