Nesta edição de Outono/Inverno da WINK merece destaque a profunda remodelação de mais um edifício histórico, desta vez na vibrante cidade do Porto. A famosa cafetaria “A Brasileira” abriu em 1903 e fez parte da vida de todos os portuenses até 2013 quando foi encerrada. Após uma exaustiva renovação do espaço, “A Brasileira” foi devolvida à cidade este ano e, além da cafetaria, conta agora com um restaurante de autor e um hotel de cinco estrelas. Um projeto encantador, que vale a pena descobrir, e que reflete a nossa grande preocupação em manter viva a memória, reabilitando espaços que estão inscritos na vida das pessoas. Localizado no coração do Porto, este é um hotel de luxo que promete surpreender cada um dos seus sentidos e mais não revelamos para não estragar a surpresa. Aproveitamos a viagem à cidade Invicta para uma visita a dois dos seus mais emblemáticos hotéis, ambos na margem norte do rio Douro, o Pestana Vintage Porto na zona ribeirinha e o Pestana Palácio do Freixo. O cuidado em manter viva a identidade de edifícios icónicos faz parte do ADN da nossa marca. Outro exemplo, que levamos até si nesta WINK, é o Pestana Convento do Carmo, Historic Hotel, na Bahia, Brasil. Trata-se de uma construção do século XVI, com arquitetura barroca, adquirido pelo Pestana Hotel Group em 2000 e que, cinco anos após um detalhado restauro, se tornou o primeiro hotel histórico no Brasil. Neste hotel, a recepção, sobre um antigo altar do século XVIII, é o início de uma viagem no tempo, pontuada pelas inúmeras obras de arte que decoram os 79 quartos, outrora celas dos frades carmelitas. Para quem procura um sítio paradisíaco nesta altura no ano, com calor, cheio de praias e história, Bahia é uma aposta certa. Já para os viajantes que gostam de frio e montanha, a nossa sugestão recai sobre um charmoso chalet no Parque Nacional da Peneda-Gerês. Por detrás da Pousada Caniçada-Gerês está uma encantadora história de paixões, que descobrimos através Belkiss Ribeiro. Localizada numa das mais incríveis paisagens de Portugal, este é um destino perfeito para se recolher no silêncio e em contacto com a natureza. Ainda nesta edição encontra um divertido safari pelas colinas de Lisboa, a bordo dos famosos tuk-tuks da cidade, entrevistas e histórias de quem encontra nas viagens uma forma de vida. It is with great pride that we share with you the latest news from the Pestana universe. In this autumn/winter edition of WINK, the total refurbishment of another historic building deserves to be highlighted, this time in the vibrant city of Porto. The famous café, “A Brasileira”, first opened in 1903 and was part of Porto life until it closed in 2013. After an extensive renovation of the space, “A Brasileira” returned to the city this year and, besides the café, it now has a signature restaurant and a five-star hotel. This charming project worth discovering reflects our great ambition to keep memory alive by rehabilitating spaces that are part of peoples’ lives. Located in the heart of Porto, this is a luxury hotel that promises to awaken each one of your senses and we will reveal no more so as not to spoil the surprise. We took a trip to the unconquered city for a visit to two of its most emblematic hotels, both on the north bank of the Douro River, the Pestana Vintage Porto on the riverside and the Pestana Palácio do Freixo. Care to maintain the identity of iconic buildings alive is part of our band’s DNA. Another example of this that we bring you in this WINK, is the Pestana Convento do Carmo, Historic Hotel, in Bahia, Brazil. It is a 16th century building with baroque architecture, acquired by the Pestana Hotel Group in 2000 and which, after five years of detailed restoration, became the first historical hotel in Brazil. At this hotel’s reception is an ancient 18th century alter which is just the beginning of a trip back in time, punctuated by the numerous works of art that decorate the 79 rooms, once cells of the Carmelite friars. For those looking for a paradisiacal place at this time of year, with lots of sunshine, beaches and history, Bahia is your best bet. For travellers who like the cold and mountains, our suggestion lies on a charming chalet in the Peneda-Gerês National Park. Behind the history of the Pousada Caniçada-Gerês is a charming story of passions, which we discovered through Belkiss Ribeiro. Located in one of the most incredible landscapes of Portugal, this is a perfect destination to retreat in silence and in contact with nature. Also in this edition you will find a fun safari through the hills of Lisbon, aboard the city’s famous tuk-tuks as well as interviews and stories from those for whom travelling, is a way of life. A paisagem que encontra ao chegar à Pousada Caniçada-Gerês é tão impressionante como a história que está por detrás do romântico chalet rústico, que esteve na origem deste refúgio de montanha. E ninguém melhor que Belkiss Ribeiro para nos revelar essa história. Numa viagem guiada pelas suas memórias, atravessamos o corredor do tempo até aos anos 50, altura em que o seu pai idealizou e mandou construir este chalet de montanha para as férias em família.

The countryside you encounter when you reach the Pousada Caniçada-Gerês is as impressive as the story behind this romantic and rustic chalet that was the origin of this mountain refuge. There’s no one better to reveal this story than Belkiss Ribeiro. On a guided tour of her memories we go back in time to the 1950s, when her father had the mountain chalet built for family holidays.

Belkiss Ribeiro ainda recorda o dia em que o pai, durante um passeio pelo Gerês, parou o VW Carocha e anteviu o que seria esta paisagem. O espelho de água que hoje domina o sopé das montanhas ainda não existia, porque a barragem não tinha sido construída, mas isso não impediu o visionário homem de prever todo o potencial deste lugar, dominado por gigantes montanhas que se pintam de verde no verão e no Inverno se vestem com um manto branco.

Belkiss Ribeiro still remembers the day her father stopped their VW Beatle, whilst driving through Gerês, and foresaw what this landscape was to become. The mirror of water that now dominates the foot of the mountains wasn’t there at the time because the dam hadn’t been built yet. This, however, didn’t prevent her visionary father from predicting the full potential of this place, dominated by giant mountains that are painted green in summer and wear a white robe in the winter.

Em apenas um ano, o chalet de madeira e pedra, com sete quartos, estava construído à medida da imaginação do seu pai e pronto para ser recheado de histórias. Algumas delas inesquecíveis. Belkiss recorda a chegada do piano de cauda para a inauguração, as festas de gala ou o dia em que uma família francesa confundiu o chalet com um hotel. O seu pai, que adorava falar francês, acolheu essa família de braços abertos e só no final de um animado jantar, quando pediram a conta, ficaram a saber toda a verdade. Sentido de humor e generosidade foram duas das qualidades que Belkiss Ribeiro herdou do pai, que por gostar tanto de receber os amigos lhes oferecia, simbolicamente, uma chave do chalet. Belkiss Ribeiro repetiu o ato e, durante a nossa visita, ofereceu uma das últimas chaves originais à administração da Pousada de Portugal. Ao longo da franca e divertida conversa que tivemos, vão surgindo incríveis fotografias antigas que pintam o passado deste espaço e desta família.

In just one year, the seven-bedroom stone and wooden chalet was built, just as he had envisioned it, ready to be filled with stories. Some of which are unforgettable. Belkiss recalls the arrival of grand piano for the inauguration, the gala parties and the day a French family confused the chalet for a hotel. His father, who loved speaking French, welcomed the family with open arms and it wasn’t until the end of the lively dinner, when they asked for the bill, that they found out the truth. Sense of humour and generosity are qualities that Belkiss Ribeiro inherited from her father who used to love having his friends to stay so much that he gave them all a key to the chalet. Belkiss Ribeiro continued with this tradition giving one of the last original keys, to the Pousada’s management whislt we were there. During the candid and entertaining chat we had with her, she showed us some incredible old photographs that tell the history of this place and her family.

POUSADA CANIÇADA - GERÊS

Passaram muitos anos, houve algumas transformações, mas a sua paixão pelo Gerês continua intocável, por isso não resistimos a desafiar Belkiss a replicar uma dessas fotografias, que retrata a profunda conexão com este lugar. “Aqui vivo na periferia do planeta, sinto-me no espaço, no topo, junto das estrelas”. É assim que Belkiss se refere ao Gerês e percebemos, em profundidade, cada palavra da sua citação mal pisamos o terraço da Pousada, um autêntico miradouro sobre a mágica barragem da Caniçada, em pleno Rio Cávado.

Many years went by, there were some transformations but her passion for Gerês remains unchanged, so we could not resist challenging Belkiss Ribeiro to replicate one of the photographs, which depicts her deep connection with this region. “I live here on the planet’s periphery, I feel like I’m in space, at the top, next to the stars.” This is how Belkiss refers to Gerês and we profoundly perceive the meaning of each word of her quote the minute we step out on to the Pousada’s terrace, a mesmerising lookout point over the magical Caniçada dam, right on the River Cávado.

POUSADA CANIÇADA - GERÊS

O chalet esteve nas mãos da família até 1962, altura em que foi vendido para ser transformado na Pousada de São Bento e aí sofreu a primeira ampliação. Nessa altura, já o pai de Belkiss tinha idealizado e construído um outro chalet, ainda mais perto do céu, que continua a ser hoje o refúgio de Belkiss Ribeiro, sempre que volta as costas à cidade do Porto, onde vive e onde dirige o Clube de Bridge. Fascinada pelo glamour dos anos 60, por luvas, chapéus e carros antigos, Belkiss Ribeiro conta 80 anos, é dona de uma invejável memória e de uma energia que nos faz duvidar da sua idade. O segredo de tanta jovialidade diz ser a felicidade com que vive os seus dias e as cargas energéticas que estas montanhas lhe passam diariamente. E acreditamos que sim. Bastam alguns dias neste lugar para sentirmos o corpo a revitalizar.

The chalet remained in the hands of the family until 1962, when it was sold to be transformed into the Pousada Caniçada-Gerês and underwent its first expansion. By then, Belkiss’s father had already conceived and built another chalet, even closer to heaven, which continues to be the refuge of Belkiss Ribeiro, whenever she’s away from Porto, where she lives and runs the Bridge Club. Fascinated by the glamour of the 60s, gloves, hats and vintage cars, Belkiss Ribeiro is 80 years old, has an enviable memory and so much energy that it makes us doubt her age. She lets us into the secret of staying joyful, it’s the happiness with which she enjoys each day and the energy these mountains transmit to her. We can believe that! As all it takes is a couple of days here, to feel revitalized.

Maria João Bahia nasceu em Leiria, no seio de uma família de artistas plásticos, e cedo percebeu que a sua vocação era a joalharia. Ainda chegou a estudar Direito, mas a paixão pelas jóias falou mais alto e em 1985 abre a sua primeira loja. Passados dois anos cria a primeira linha de jóias, que viria a ser mostrada ao mundo em Nova Iorque. Desde então a sua carreira não parou de crescer, sendo hoje uma referência na joalharia em Portugal e no Mundo. Assume-se como criadora de sonhos, uma transformadora de memórias em peças intemporais, onde predominam o ouro e as pedras preciosas. O seu atelier, boutique e oficina, em pleno coração de Lisboa, na Avenida da Liberdade é um universo de brilho e bom gosto onde encontra ou pode encomendar a jóia dos seus sonhos.

Born in Leiria, into a family of plastic artists, Maria João Bahia realized, at a very early age, that her vocation was making jewellery. She studied Law at one point but her passion for jewels spoke louder and in 1985 she opened her first shop. Two years later she created her first jewellery collection, which was to be shown to the world in New York. Since then, her career has continuously soared, making her one of the most renowned jewellery designers in Portugal and worldwide. She describes herself as a dream maker, a transformer of memories into timeless pieces, where gold and precious stones predominate. Her atelier, boutique and workshop, in the heart of Lisbon on Avenida da Liberdade, is a world of brightness and good taste where you can find or order the jewel of your dreams.

WINK: Qual é a viagem dos seus sonhos? Maria João: Eu adoro viajar, para mim é impossível dizer qual a viagem dos meus sonhos. Navegar pelos oceanos e pelo mundo, descobrir o que ainda não está tão descoberto é um dos meus maiores prazeres. O desconhecido, a experiência de novas vidas, de novas culturas, de novos rituais, o contacto com ilustres desconhecidos num mundo completamente desconhecido, é o que mais me faz sonhar, é o que mais me faz crescer, é o que mais me inspira a alma.

What is the trip of your dreams? I love travelling, it’s impossible for me to say which the trip of my dreams is. Sailing the oceans of the world and discovering what is yet to be discovered, is one of my greatest pleasures. The unknown, the experience of new lives, new cultures, new rituals, contact with illustrious strangers in a completely unknown world, all of this makes me dream, makes me grow and is what inspires my soul the most. Where do you spend most of your time? In my “safe haven”, my atelier. It’s a refuge where I find my balance and grow. I love coming here to write, read, listen to music, or work. I feel great peace when I’m here. I don’t feel time passing.

Onde passa a maior parte do seu tempo? No meu “porto seguro”, o meu atelier, a minha oficina, é um refúgio para o meu equilíbrio e para o meu crescimento. Adoro vir para aqui escrever, ler, ouvir música, ou trabalhar. Sinto uma enorme paz quando estou aqui. Não sinto o tempo passar.

What is your favourite holiday destination? As I love travelling, I don’t have a favourite place. I dislike routine, always going to the same place. I like going somewhere different, preferably not too touristy.

Qual é o seu destino de férias favorito? Como adoro viajar, não tenho um sítio preferido. Não gosto da rotina, de ir sempre para o mesmo lugar. Gosto de ir sempre para sítios diferentes, de preferência pouco turísticos.

Where was your first trip to? I think my first trip was to Badajoz with my mother, I must have been 6 years old. Later, when I was 12, I went on my first trip alone to Normandy and then to Paris. What’s the first thing you do when you get to a hotel room? Change what bothers me. That could be a table, a chair...

Onde foi a sua primeira viagem? A minha primeira viagem acho que foi a Badajoz com a minha mãe, devia ter 6 anos. Mais tarde, com 12 anos, fiz a minha primeira viagem sozinha, para a Normandia e depois Paris.

Qual é a primeira coisa que faz quando entra num quarto de hotel? Mudo o que me incomoda. Pode ser uma mesa, uma cadeira…

Have you ever forgotten something valuable in a hotel room? I usually travel with as little as possible. Even when I’m travelling on business I always travel light. I never check-in any baggage. Up until now, I’ve never left anything valuable in a hotel room.

Alguma vez se esqueceu de uma coisa valiosa num quarto de hotel? Costumo viajar com o mínimo possível. Mesmo em trabalho, tento sempre levar o mínimo. Nunca despacho uma mala. Até hoje, nunca me esqueci de nada valioso num hotel.

How do you prefer to travel? By car, plane, boat, train...? I’ve travelled all different ways, they’re all great.

Como é que prefere viajar? De carro, avião, barco, comboio...? Já viajei de todas as formas e todas são ótimas. Todas têm características diferentes o que nos dá experiências muito diferentes. Viajar de barco no meio do oceano é muito poderoso.

They all have different characteristics providing very different experiences. There’s something very powerful about sailing in the middle of the ocean. What’s the most beautiful place you’ve ever visited? One year I went with my family to volunteer for a month at a NGO in Mozambique. We drove from Maputo to Pemba. It was a real adventure. In the middle of the trip we stopped to spend the night at a “hotel” and the following morning, when we woke up, we went horse riding along the beach. We were alone in all that vastness, except for some small fishing rafts a few miles away, I thought I was in paradise. There can be no greater beauty than that of pure simplicity.

Qual o sitio mais bonito que visitou? Um ano fui com a minha família fazer durante um mês voluntariado, numa ONG para Moçambique. De Maputo para Pemba fomos de carro. Foi uma verdadeira aventura. No meio do caminho paramos num “hotel” para dormir e no dia seguinte de manhã, quando acordamos, fomos dar um passeio de cavalo pela praia. Sozinhos naquela imensidão de terra e de mar, sem ninguém, com umas jangadas a quilómetros de distância a pescar, pensei que estava no paraíso. Não é possível haver mais beleza do que aquela simplicidade tão pura.

Where have you felt happiest? On a trip around the interior of India.

Onde se sentiu mais feliz? Numa viagem pelo interior da Índia.

Where do feel most at home? I love sitting in front of a fire place, reading or chatting. The kitchen is another place where good times are spent.

Onde é que se sente mais em casa? Adoro estar sentada à lareira, a ler ou conversar. A cozinha também é um lugar onde se passam bons momentos.

If you owned a hotel what would it be like? It would be like my home, a place where guests could experience what it is to live with a family in Portugal.

Se fosse proprietária de um hotel, como é que seria? Seria como se fosse a minha casa, um lugar onde o cliente tivesse uma experiência de como se vive com uma família em Portugal.

What are your favourite cities? New York and Venice. To what extent does travelling influence your work? Immensely. They are incredible experiences that help me grow as a human being and professionally.

Qual é a sua cidade preferida? Nova Iorque e Veneza. Em que medida é que as viagens influenciam o seu trabalho. Imenso. São experiências incríveis, que me ajudam a crescer como ser humano e como profissional.

What places have you visited that you would like to go back to and which ones would you not want to return to ever again? Of the places I have visited, I have been back to Paris, London, Hong Kong, New York, Rome and Madrid several times. I like going back because I always discover new places. Actually, I can’t think of a place where I wouldn’t want to go back to...

~ Queridos papai e mamae, Esperamos que esta carta vos encontre de perfeita saúde. Nós estamos encantadas com Portugal. Saímos de Lisboa de trem e estamos neste momento no Porto. Que viagem maravilhosa! Mas mais maravilhosa é a história que temos para vos contar. Vocês não vão acreditar… lembram-se daquele grande amigo do bisavô que se chamava Adriano Teles? Aquele português que vivia aí em Minas Gerais e se dedicava ao comercio de café no início do século XX? Pois é, acabámos de descobrir que quando voltou para Portugal em 1903 abriu um negócio de venda de café no Porto que se chama A Brasileira. Esteve fechado durante muitos anos, mas acaba de reabrir completamente restaurado e está lindo de morrer. Vocês têm de vir conhecer, vão amar. Descobrimos que o Adriano Teles foi um génio do marketing. Foi o primeiro a servir café em xícara, aqui em Portugal, e durante muitos anos era oferecido a quem comprava um saquinho de café. Como o sabor do café era algo estranho para os portugueses, tinham o péssimo hábito de cuspirem para o chão quando saíam da Brasileira. Foi preciso instalar uma placa a pedir aos portugueses que acabassem com esse horrível hábito. Quem diria que os portugueses se viriam a tornar num dos maiores consumidores de café do mundo!

Dear Mum and Dad, Hope that you are both feeling on peak form. We are fascinated with Portugal. We’re in Porto now, having taken the train here from Lisbon. What an incredible trip! But even more incredible is the story we have to tell you! You are not going to believe this... Remember great granddaddy’s friend called Adriano Teles? The Portuguese man who lived in Minas Gerais and worked in coffee trading at the beginning of the 20th century? Well, we have just discovered that when he went back to Portugal in 1903 he opened a café called A Brasileira. It was closed for many years but it has just been totally restored, has reopened and is absolutely beautiful. You must come and visit it, you’ll love it! We discovered that Adriano Teles was a marketing guru. He was the first in Portugal to serve coffee in a coffee cup and for many years the coffee was free when you bought a bag of coffee. As the taste of coffee was somewhat strange for the Portuguese at that time, they had the nasty habit of spitting on the ground as they left A Brasileira. A sign had to be put up asking people to stop that horrible habit. Who would have guessed that the Portuguese were to become one of the largest consumers of coffee in the world?

Descobrimos também que Brasileira é uma referência cultural em Portugal, onde importantes poetas, escritores e outros artistas faziam grandes tertúlias, próprias de uma cidade liberal e progressista, como era o Porto da altura. Depois de anos fechada, A Brasileira reabriu e agora nos pisos de cima tem um hotel, com uma localização excelente, bem perto da incrível estação de São Bento. Razão tinha o papai de falar naqueles azulejos que forram a estação de comboios… Mas aqui é tudo impressionante… a começar pelo luxuoso hotel de cinco estrelas, que chamaram Pestana Porto A Brasileira, onde cada piso tem uma decoração alusiva aos produtos ligados aos Descobrimentos, como o café, chá, cacau, pimenta, canela e anis.

We also found out that A Brasileira is a cultural landmark in Portugal, where important poets, writers and other artists would get together for debates reflecting the liberal and progressive city that Porto was at the time. A Brasileira has re-opened now with a hotel installed in the upper floors. The location couldn’t be better; it’s very close to the incredible São Bento station. Dad, you were right when you mentioned the station’s tiles.... Everything about this place is impressive.... To begin with, the luxury 5 star hotel called Pestana Porto A Brasileira, where the decor is inspired by the products from the Portuguese Discoveries such as coffee, tea, cocoa, pepper, cinnamon and aniseed.

Têm que experimentar o restaurante do hotel com incríveis pratos da gastronomia portuguesa A cafetaria mantém a traça original e até preservou um delicioso bolo que se chama 4 de maio, dia que a cafetaria abriu ao público há mais de 115 anos. Mas não julguem que o ambiente aqui é de saudosimo, muito pelo contrário, respira-se futurismo, tanto que a partir das 19 horas o histórico espaço transformase num bar. Since we are on the subject of unforgettable spots, when you are down by the river you must try the RIB Beef and Wine restaurant, also headed by Rui Martins, the chef of the A Brasileira’s hotel restaurant. This restaurant is in the Pestana Vintage Porto, an incredible project installed in 18 buildings protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. There are a series of what appear to be, from the outside, small typical buildings but the inside reveals a beautiful hotel with stunning views over the river, the D. Luís bridge and the famous Port wine cellars. Daddy dear, you know how useless your daughters are when it comes to map reading but here in Porto, this really isn’t a problem. People are charming and in addition to showing us the way to places we are looking for, they give us tips on other places we should see.

José e André não são apenas o duo maravilha de empreendedores portugueses por detrás da marca LA PAZ, também são amigos, provavelmente os melhores amigos, sonhadores, nostálgicos e criadores pioneiros em Portugal.

José and André are not only the dream team of Portuguese entrepreneurs behind the LA PAZ brand, they are friends, probably best friends, dreamers, nostalgic and innovative creators of the new Portugal.

José nasceu e cresceu no Porto. As suas paixões são a família e os amigos. O André também é do Porto, cresceu perto do mar, na Foz do Douro. Durante a nossa visita ao Porto, convidámos a dupla para jantar no restaurante A Brasileira. Com uma noite de verão do Porto como cenário, desfrutámos de uma conversa cheia de anedotas, perguntas, de uma comida suculenta e de um vinho fantástico, que nos fez perder a noção do tempo. Esta entrevista é um mero relance da noite maravilhosa que passámos na companhia de duas almas românticas.

José was born and brought up in Porto. His passions are his family and friends. André is also from Porto, he was brought up very close to the seaside in Foz do Douro. During our visit to Porto we invited them out to dinner at the A Brasileira restaurant. With a Porto summer night as a backdrop, we enjoyed a chat full of anecdotes, questions, delicious food and, of course, amazing wine that helped us lose track of time. This interview is just a glimpse at the night we spent with these two beautiful romantic souls.

WINK: Descreve-nos um dia típico na tua vida? José: Eu gosto de surfar, jogar ténis, livros, arte e roupa. Adoro o meu trabalho. O meu dia começa por volta das 7h da manhã, tomo o pequenoalmoço e levo os meus filhos à escola. Sempre que posso, vou surfar de manhã cedo e depois vou até ao escritório ou visito as fábricas. Chego a casa por volta das 18h30. Às vezes, saio para ir beber um copo com um amigo ou vou passear o meu cão com os meus filhos. Janto por volta das 20h30 e é costume ler um pouco antes de me deitar.

WINK: Can you describe your typical day? José: I like surfing, playing tennis, books, art and clothing. I love my job. I start my day at about 7:00am, have breakfast and take the kids to school. Whenever I can, I go surfing early in the morning then I go to the office or to visit the factories. I get home at about 6:30pm. Sometimes I go for a drink with a friend or for a walk with my dog and the kids. I have dinner at about 8:30pm and most of the time I read for a while before going to bed.

O que te inspira? J: A natureza, a literatura, pessoas felizes, amor e amizade verdadeiros.

What inspires you? J: Nature, literature, joyful people, true love and friendship. Can you name one of your earliest inspirations? J: My father, who was a great soul with a relaxed attitude.

Quem foi a tua primeira fonte de inspiração? J: O meu pai, que tinha uma grande alma e uma atitude relaxada.

Tell us a little about the places you have been, the experiences you have had and how they have changed you. J: I started travelling at a very young age. Getting to know other people and cultures has been important in developing my curiosity, awareness and tolerance towards other ways of thinking and people. The most important change in my life has been fatherhood. Even if you are a very generous person, that’s when you really start thinking about another human being before thinking of yourself. I am a father of three and educating them is by far the biggest challenge in my life. In the professional field, LA PAZ has been really important too, it’s great to create something like this, to make a living from it and to see other people wearing our clothes proudly.

Conta-nos um pouco sobre os sítios que visitaste, as experiências que tiveste e como te mudaram. J: Comecei a viajar desde muito novo. Conhecer novas pessoas e novas culturas tem sido importante no desenvolvimento da minha curiosidade, consciência e tolerância, relativamente a outras formas de pensar e outras pessoas. A mudança que mais impacto teve na minha vida foi ter sido pai. Mesmo para quem é realmente muito generoso, este é o momento em que de facto se começa a pensar primeiro noutro ser humano antes de pensar em si próprio. Sou pai de três filhos e educá-los tem sido, de longe, o meu maior desafio na vida. Profissionalmente, é claro que a LA PAZ tem sido muito importante - é incrível poder criar algo assim, poder viver disso e ver outras pessoas vestirem estas roupas com orgulho. Fala-nos um pouco mais sobre a LA PAZ, os tempos iniciais da marca, a sua evolução, as suas histórias? J: O André e eu somos amigos desde sempre. A mãe dele e o meu pai eram amigos e nós sempre nos demos muito bem. Em 2011 juntámo-nos e criámos um plano para fazer a distribuição de algumas marcas em Portugal, mas a economia estava com tantos problemas que tomámos outro caminho, e agarrámo-nos às fábricas e aos contactos que tínhamos na indústria para tentar criar a nossa própria marca. Na altura do lançamento da nossa primeira coleção, fizemos desfiles em Nova Iorque, Paris e Londres e correram bem, algumas lojas reconhecidas compraram os nossos produtos e depois dessas vieram outras, assim como muitas viagens e desafios. Apesar dos problemas que ocorrem, continuamos a esforçar-nos todos os dias e ainda cá estamos! Vives aqui no Porto, porquê? J: No Porto consegue-se ter um bom equilíbrio entre a vida profissional e a vida pessoal, é uma cidade muito relaxada. Tenho aqui todos os meus familiares

Can you tell us a bit more about LA PAZ, the brand’s early days, the evolution, its stories? J: André and I have been friends forever. My father and his mother were friends and we always got on really well. In 2011 we got together with a plan to distribute some brands in Portugal but the economy was struggling so much that we decided to take advantage of all the production facilities and contacts we had in the industry and to try to create our own brand. For the launch of our first collection, we did shows in New York, Paris and London and they went well, some well-known shops bought our products, then others followed, together with a lot of travelling and challenges. Despite all the problems that we encounter we continue to give it our best every day and here we are! Why do you live here in Porto? J: In Porto you can have a great work/life balance, it’s a very relaxed city. I have all my family and friends here, good waves to surf, all our production partners are within a 30 minutes drive from our office and it’s very easy to travel around Europe from here. How often and why do you travel? J: I travel often, nowadays mainly for professional reasons but not just during the selling seasons. We also travel to better understand specific markets and how to target them in a better way.

Conhecer novas pessoas e culturas tem sido importante no desenvolvimento da minha curiosidade, consciência e tolerância e amigos, boas ondas para surfar, todos os nossos parceiros de produção vivem a 30 minutos de carro do nosso escritório e é muito fácil viajar pela Europa a partir daqui. Com que regularidade e porque viajas? J: Viajo com alguma regularidade, sobretudo por razões ligadas ao meu trabalho, mas também fora da época de vendas. Também viajamos para perceber melhor alguns mercados mais específicos e como os podemos alcançar. Qual o significado de viajar para ti? J: Descobrir novos sítios, culturas e formas de viver, assim como fazer amigos. Qual foi o sítio mais bonito que alguma vez visitaram juntos e porquê? J: Eu diria o Japão, pelo facto de ser um país cuja beleza inclui a sua gente, as suas tradições, estética, o artesanato, o silêncio, e por aí em diante.

What does travelling mean to you? J: Discovering new places, cultures and ways of living, making new friends.

De todos os sítios no mundo, onde se sentem mais em casa? J: Eu adoro viajar, mas é aqui no Porto que me sinto mais em casa.

What was the most beautiful place you visited together, where have you found beauty? J: I would say Japan, because of the country’s beauty which includes its people, traditions, aesthetics, crafts, silence and so on.

Sítios ou cidades preferidas? J: Existem muitas, mas diria Tóquio, Nova Iorque, Londres e Paris. Visitei Seul e Xangai há uns anos e adorei ambos, assim como o sul da Califórnia, entre outros.

Where in the world do you both feel most at home? J: I love to travel but it’s here in Porto that I feel most at home.

Favourite places or cities? J: There are many but Tokyo, New York, London and Paris. I visited Seoul and Shanghai a few years ago and loved both, also the whole of southern California, amongst others.

J: Não tenho propriamente rituais quando viajo, apenas gosto de acordar cedo e tentar perceber as dinâmicas dos vários sítios que visito e de os explorar como se fosse um local.

Favourite places in Porto? J: All the way from Ribeira where our office is to Castelo do Queijo, this relationship between the River Douro and the Atlantic is amazing and a lot of our brand identity comes from that. I like the Guindalense F.C, Candelabro bar, the Salta o Muro fish restaurant in Matosinhos, Cafeína in Foz, the Passeio Alegre gardens, the old lighthouse in Foz.

O que mais gostas num quarto de hotel? J: Aquilo que torna um quarto de hotel especial é poder sentir-me à vontade, confortável, relaxado e em paz.

What are your rituals when travelling? J: I don’t really have many rituals when I travel, I just like to wake up early and try to understand the dynamics of the different places I visit, exploring them as if I were a local.

Qual é a tua primeira memória de viagem? J: Uma viagem de carro por Espanha com os meus pais. Lembro-me de ficar num hotel, ao lado de um porto, e um dos meus irmãos a olhar para um enorme navio a ser carregado durante horas, mesmo em frente à janela. Foi como ver um filme.

What do you love most about staying at a hotel? J: What makes a hotel room special is feeling at ease, comfortable, relaxed and in peace. What is your earliest travel memory? J: A car trip across Spain with my parents. I remember staying at a hotel by a port and one of my brothers and I watching a big cargo boat being loaded for hours right outside window, it was like watching a film.

Onde é que te sentiste mais feliz? J: Aqui no Porto. Agora é a tua vez André. Conta-nos um pouco sobre ti e sobre a LA PAZ. André: Eu sou do Porto e cresci muito perto do mar, na Foz do Douro - um sítio estupendo. O meu pai era médico e a minha mãe criou um negócio de importações na área da moda. A minha infância foi calma, estive rodeado de bons amigos, e era um pouco rebelde no que toca à escola e aos estudos. Joguei ténis, futebol e pratiquei bodyboard. Sempre tive uma paixão por roupas e sempre gostei de explorar diferentes culturas e tradições. Desenvolvi esta curiosidade quando me mudei para

Where in the world have you felt happiest? J: Here in Porto.

a Inglaterra, onde vivi durante 10 anos. O meu trabalho sempre esteve ligado à área da moda. Inicialmente, trabalhei em vendas num showroom, em Londres. De seguida, já em Portugal, trabalhei na empresa da minha mãe no desenvolvimento da estratégia de negócio e assistindo às apresentações técnicas com designers, sobretudo em Milão. Após isso, montei uma loja no Porto onde vendia roupa e artesanato importados. Depois, o meu amigo José e eu criámos a marca de roupa LA PAZ.

André now it’s your turn, tell us a bit about yourself and LA PAZ. André: I am from Porto and was brought up very close to the seaside in Foz do Douro - a great place. My father was a doctor and my mother created a fashion import business. My childhood was calm, surrounded by good friends and a bit more rebellious when it came to school and studying. I played tennis, football and body boarded in the ocean. I have always had a passion for clothes and enjoyed different cultures and traditions. I further developed this interest when I moved to England where I lived for10 years. My work has always been related to the fashion business. Initially in London, working in showroom sales. Then in Portugal helping my mother’s company as a new business developer and attending technical presentations with designers mainly in Milan. After that I created a shop in Porto where I sold imported clothes and crafts. Then my friend José and I started the LA PAZ clothing brand.

Tens algum tipo de ritual diário? A : Os meus rituais diários começam no meu jardim, com um duche matinal, até no inverno - é uma excelente forma de se começar o dia. Se puder, e se o oceano o permitir, vou surfar de manhã ora com o José, ora sozinho. Depois do pequeno-almoço, começa o meu dia de trabalho, a visitar fábricas, no escritório, a ver armazéns e lojas. Gosto de trabalhar até tarde, é quando me concentro melhor, sem distrações. Quando chego a casa tomo um copo de vinho tinto, se for inverno, ou uma cerveja fresca se for verão.

Do you have any daily rituals? A: My daily rituals begin with an early morning shower outside in my garden, even in winter - it’s a good start to the day. If I can and the ocean permitting, I go for early morning surf either with José or alone. After breakfast my work day begins visiting factories, warehouses and shops and working in the office. I usually like to work until late, when I find time to focus without any distractions. When I get home I have a glass of red wine in winter or a cold beer in summer.

O que te inspira? A: A vida, as pessoas, tradições, livros, a natureza e a música. Indica-nos uma das tuas primeiras fontes de inspiração? A: Os seres humanos. Podes nos fazer um breve resumo dos lugares onde estiveste, das experiências que tiveste e de como elas te mudaram? A: As visitas ao meu pai em Londres, quando eu era criança. Quando tinha 18 anos mudei-me para a Inglaterra para estudar, o que foi uma experiência muito forte. Também trabalhei em Itália e fui estagiário no Japão, viajei pela Índia e pelo Tibete e passei verões na Turquia com a minha mãe e o meu irmão.

What inspires you? A: Life, people, traditions, books, nature and music. Can you name one of your earliest inspirations? A: Human beings. Can you give us a brief summary on the places you have been, the experiences you have had and how they have changed you? A: Visiting my father when I was a child in London. When I was 18 I moved to England to study which was a major change. I also worked in Italy, did internships in Japan, travelled around India and Tibet and spent summers in Turkey with my mother and brother.

About you and LA PAZ? A: Since the beginning, we have always had a lot of fun with the brand. We are both very happy and fortunate with this adventure that started 8 years ago. It’s a story to tell our children. The brand has gained a lot of fans worldwide and that makes us really happy. Where do you live? A: In Lisbon, at the moment. We are opening our 2nd store and as Lisbon is the capital, it makes sense to have a 100% LA PAZ store. Lisbon is such a great city, its geography, history, mixture of people and light.

Com que regularidade viajas e porquê? A: Eu costumava viajar muito mais frequentemente hoje em dia vou visitar feiras comerciais e descobrir mercados com potencial para a marca, como a Austrália.

How often and why do you travel? A: I used to travel much more frequently now I go to visit trade shows or potential markets for the brand, such as Australia.

O que é que viajar significa para ti? A: Viajar é uma verdadeira bênção, o mundo é tão vasto e tão cheio de sítios, pessoas e tradições incríveis para se conhecerem.

What does travelling mean to you? A: Travel is such a blessing, the world is so vast and full of great places, people and traditions to get to know.

da Primavera, encontrei algo realmente bonito e acho que o José também. Na verdade, foi num bar em Amesterdão, o que pode parecer estranho à primeira. Estava calor, tínhamos estado a passear pela cidade toda e quando encontrámos este sítio fomo-nos sentar ao balcão. Tinha tudo um aspecto antigo, mas muito bem cuidado. Senti-me como se estivesse num filme, rodeado de clientes da casa que desfrutavam de uma cerveja e uma família que podia ser do Suriname. Pedimos uma cerveja e ficamos lá sentados no meio daquele ambiente simpático, foi um momento muito agradável. Encontrei beleza no lugar nas pessoas e no momento.

What was the most beautiful place you visited together, where have you found beauty? A: The last time we went to Amsterdam, in late spring, I found beauty and I think José did too. Actually, it was in a local bar in Amsterdam, which is maybe an unlikely place. It was a hot day, we had been walking all over the city and we got to this place and sat at the bar. Everything was very old yet well taken care of. It felt like we were in a film, surrounded by old loyal customers having a beer and a family who may have been from Suriname. We ordered a beer and just sat there with the nice crowd, it was a great moment. I found beauty in the place, the people and the moment.

Where in the world do you both feel most at home? A: I think it’s in my hometown Porto. What are your favourite places or cities? A: I love nature so lately mountains, London and Havana.

Quando caminhamos por Salvador da Bahia, é claro o passado português, quer nos aspectos mais óbvios, como a impressionante arquitectura do Pestana Convento do Carmo, onde nos alojamos, quer em pormenores como o característico turbante das Baianas na cabeça. Reza a história que, em 1808, quando a família real portuguesa fugiu para o Brasil, o barco onde viajava a Dona Carlota Joaquina sofreu uma infestação de piolhos, obrigando as mulheres a jogarem fora as perucas e a raparem a cabeça. Quando a realeza desembarcou na Bahia, com os panos enrolados na cabeça, as mulheres locais acreditaram tratar-se de uma moda da Europa. Ainda hoje, o traje típico de uma baiana tem este apontamento que evoca o passado, o lenço na cabeça. É inevitável estar em Salvador e não ser assolado por este tipo de histórias. O próprio Convento do Carmo de Salvador nos empurra numa viagem pelo tempo. Começado a construir em 1586, este é um dos mais antigos e maiores conventos do Brasil, chegando a ter um papel determinante como forte, na guerra contra os holandeses, que desejavam conquistar a Bahia. Da construção original faz parte a Igreja da Ordem do Carmo, que tem uma sacristia incrível toda em talha dourada. Por norma, não está aberta ao público, mas recomendamos que tente, porque está classificada como uma das mais belas sacristias do mundo. A falta de frades, na década de 70, levou ao início da reconversão do convento numa unidade hoteleira, que viria a dar origem ao Pestana Convento do Carmo, o primeiro hotel histórico do Brasil. Hoje o hotel é uma referência para quem procura conforto e uma viagem por recantos que contam histórias. Não se deixe amarrar pelo conforto dos quartos, com decoração clássica, e parta à descoberta da Sala dos Reis com a sua magnífica biblioteca, mergulhe na piscina exterior, relaxe nas chaiselongues espalhadas pelos jardins, descubra as criações do restaurante do Convento ou brinde à vida no Bar Todos os Santos. Uma coisa é certa, faça que fizer no convento, passar por aqui terá sabor de dádiva dos deuses.

As we wander around Salvador da Bahia, the Portuguese influence is clear, both in the most obvious aspects, such as the impressive architecture of the Pestana Convento do Carmo, where we stayed, as well as in the smaller details such as the typical turban that the women from Bahia wear on their head. History tells us that in 1808 when the Portuguese Royal Family fled to Brazil, the ship that Dona Carlota Joaquina was travelling on, had a lice outbreak, forcing the women on board to throw away their wigs and shave their heads. When the royals disembarked the vessel in Bahia, with cloths wrapped around their shaved heads, the local women thought it was the latest fashion from Europe. Even today, the typical Bahian costume includes this detail that evokes the past. When in Salvador it is inevitable to be overwhelmed by these sorts of stories. The Convento do Carmo itself takes us on a journey back in time. It started being built in 1586 and is one of Brazil’s oldest and largest convents. It played a decisive role as a fort, during the war against the Dutch who wanted to conquer Bahia. Part of the original construction is the Church of the Order do Carmo, which has an incredible sacristy all in gilded woodcarving. Normally, it is not open to the public, but we strongly recommend that you try to visit it because it is classified as one of the most beautiful sacristies in the world. The lack of friars in the 70’s led to the conversion of the convent into a hotel which gave rise to the Pestana Convento do Carmo, the first historical hotel in Brazil. Today the hotel is ideal for those looking for comfort and a trip through plenty nooks and crannies that tell stories. Don’t get carried away by the classically decorated comfortable rooms, go and explore the Sala dos Reis with its magnificent library, dive into the outdoor pool, relax on the lounge chairs scattered around the gardens, discover the restaurant’s creations or make a toast to life at the Todos os Santos (All Saints’) bar. One thing is certain; whatever you do at the convent, staying here will feel like a gift from the gods.

A equipa parece um batalhão de anjos focados em tornar a nossa estadia em algo celestial… o maravilhoso café da manhã… as tentadoras iguarias à la carte no restaurante Convento. A entrada de queijo brie no forno e a berinjela à Parmegiana do chefe italiano Cláudio Bottino são inesquecíveis. Além das razões para o palato, este hotel não pára de surpreender o hóspede, mesmo nas lojas, exemplo disso é o espaço da designer Luciana Galeão… Mas quando tomar coragem de se desprender e sair à descoberta, verá que o contexto à volta do hotel é igualmente surpreendente para todos os sentidos. O hotel fica mesmo no centro histórico de Salvador, no famoso bairro Santo António, onde há muito para descobrir e a oferta gastronómica parece infinita. Mas acredite, apesar de ser um sítio com muita oferta turística, há experiências imperdíveis. Uma dela fica mesmo em frente ao hotel, o Pysco. Neste restaurante argentino, com uma vista surpreendente e uma ementa de fazer nascer água na boca, prove o polvo à lagareiro. Sofisticado, muito harmonioso, prepare-se para ser surpreendido com uma excelente escolha musical durante o jantar, por vezes com música ao vivo.

Leaving the hotel is the first exercise of detachment that you will have to do. You just feel like staying put! It’s a memorable experience. The staff is like a battalion of angels intent on making your stay heavenly... The delicious breakfast... The tempting à la carte delicacies at the “Convento” restaurant. The brie cheese in the oven starter and the eggplant Parmegiana by the Italian chef, Cláudio Bottino, are unforgettable. In addition to pleasing the palate, there are many other reasons why this hotel does not cease to amaze guests, it even has shops, such as the space dedicated to the designer, Luciana Galeão. But when you eventually pluck up the courage to break away from the hotel to explore, you’ll see that the context around it is equally surprising for all the senses. The hotel is located right in the historic centre of Salvador, in the famous Santo António neighbourhood, where there is much to discover and the variety of cuisine seems infinite. But believe me, despite there being plenty of touristy sites, there are experiences not to be missed. One of them is right in front of the hotel, “Pysco”. This sophisticated, yet unpretentious, Argentine restaurant has an amazing view and a mouth-watering menu, you must taste the octopus “lagareiro”. Prepare to be surprised by the excellent choice of music as you dine which sometimes includes live music.

Foi graças ao Edmilson que descobrimos muitas destas pérolas da Bahia . A dois passos do hotel, não perca a oportunidade de provar o “Rango Vegan”, uma excelente opção vegetariana. Outro estabelecimento imperdível é o lindo Café Cafellier… dê mais uns passos e prove o pastel de queijo no Poró, mais uns passos e descubra outra porta, outra atração. Santo António com a sua imensa variedade tem opções para todos os gostos. O Bar Oliveiras, por exemplo, tem uma ótima proposta musical, com um ambiente bastante original e o famoso néctar de gengibre, um tipo de licor feito artesanalmente, que vale a pena conhecer. Anote ainda que a quarta-feira mais animada da cidade é no centro cultural A’boca, um espaço que reúne apresentações musicais de salsa, zumba e samba, num formato indiscutivelmente único, que jamais verá noutro lugar do mundo. Podíamos gastar páginas e páginas com dicas… Also very close-by, is the “Cadê Que Chama” a restaurant specializing in homemade food, which, according to Edmilson Cardoso, author of the “diariodobaiano” Instagram account, serves the best “Moqueca” in Salvador. It was thanks to Edmilson that we discovered many of these pearls in Bahia. Just steps away from the hotel is the “Rango Vegan”, an excellent vegetarian option. Another must-see is the beautiful “Café Cafellier”. Walk a little further and savour the cheese pastry at “Poró” and a couple of steps later, “Outra Porta”, another attraction. Santo Antonio with its huge variety has something for every taste. “Bar Oliveiras”, for example, has great music, with a very original atmosphere and the famous “néctar de gengibre”, a homemade ginger liquor you must taste. Also note that the city’s liveliest place on Wednesdays is the “A’boca” cultural centre, that brings together salsa, zumba and samba, in an unique musical performance unlike anything else in the world. Don’t forget to visit the spacious and welcoming “Zanzibar”, a restaurant of typical African cuisine, taste the chicken in ginger sauce and the delicious mashed banana with smoked meat. A final tip, whilst the palate celebrates the indescribable Bahian cuisine, be aware of the different aromas as you walk around the city and bathe in the permanent light that Bahia is blessed with. Cuisine is a highlight of this city, it is said that the people of Bahia breakfast like an Indian, lunch like an African and dine like a Portuguese. But besides the cuisine, Salvador is a city offering plenty to see and do with regard to art, culture, fashion and music. It is well worth spending time at the “Boqueirão”, where up and coming designers sell their pieces. This is the perfect place to find beautiful and original souvenirs which reveal the natural talent of the Bahians.

They say that the Bahians are not born, they premiere! The truth is that almost everyone is an artist and you must explore all the shops and galleries that prove this. As you leave the hotel, turn left and find the former home of Castro Alves, which is now the home of the renowned fashion designer and consultant, Marcia Ganem, known for her innovative approach that brings jewellery and handicrafts together with haute couture and sustainability. The ample space, besides being her home, is also the stage of exhibitions and other artistic interventions that are worth seeing. The “Pelourinho” alone, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Historic Centre of Salvador, is a world to discover. You will see that every building here holds a surprise that will enchant you. Antes de subir para o Pelourinho, aproveite para comprar havaianas, cangas e outras bugigangas na Baixa dos Sapateiros. É aqui que os locais fazem as suas compras. Se preferir algo mais turístico e mais organizado opte pelo Mercado Modelo. Tome cuidado com o excesso de bagagem, porque facilmente se perde a cabeça na hora de comprar recordações deste paraíso. Já que falamos em mercados, não perca a oportunidade de conhecer a autenticidade do Mercado de S. Joaquim, com os seus corredores repletos de objetos ligados ao candomblé. Ao fundo da Praça encontra-se a Igreja e Convento de São Francisco, uma obra imponente da altura dos Descobrimentos cujo interior está impressionantemente forrado com 800 quilos de ouro. Mas esta é apenas uma delas, diz-se que São Salvador têm tantas igrejas que pode ir a uma diferente cada dia do ano. Salvador é um sítio de fé, com muitas festas religiosas que vale a pena conhecer. Ainda no Pelourinho fica a casa do famoso escritor Jorge Amado, que dizia que “a cidade da Bahia, negra e religiosa, é quase tão misteriosa como o verde mar”. Before going up to the “Pelourinho”, buy the typical Havaianas, cangas and other trinkets at “Baixa dos Sapateiros”. This is where the locals do their shopping. If you prefer something touristy and more organized, go to the “Mercado Modelo”. Be careful with excess baggage, it’s easy to go crazy when it comes to shopping for souvenirs from this paradise. As we are on the subject of markets, don’t miss all the authenticity of the S. Joaquim Market, with its corridors of Candomblé memorabilia. At the far end of the “Pelourinho” square, is the Church and Convent of São Francisco, an imposing building dating back to the era of the Discoveries, impressively clad with 800 kilos of gold leaf. But this is just one of many churches. It is said that São Salvador has so many churches that one could go to a different one every day of the year. Salvador is a place of faith, with many religious festivals worth visiting. Also at the “Pelourinho” is the house of the famous writer Jorge Amado, who said that “the city of Bahia, black and religious, is almost as mysterious as the green sea”.

Rose Hartman

Recentemente, a WINK teve a honra de conhecer e entrevistar a lendária fotógrafa, escritora de viagens e autora Rose Hartmann. Com uma carreira de várias décadas, esta nova-iorquina é sobretudo conhecida por ter fotografado ícones de moda e celebridades em alguns dos locais mais lendários da vida noturna de Nova Iorque. Quem não se lembra de sua icónica imagem de Jade Jagger montando um cavalo branco no Studio 54 no seu 30.º aniversário?

Hartman foi uma dos primeiras fotógrafas de moda a fotografar modelos e designers nos bastidores, em destaque no seu primeiro livro “Aves do Paraíso: Uma Visão Íntima do New York Fashion World”. Em 2011–12, uma retrospectiva do seu trabalho, com mais de 60 fotografias, esteve no Fashion Institute of Technology, em Nova York. Recently WINK had the honour of meeting and interviewing the legendary photographer, travel writer and author Rose Hartmann. With a career spanning decades, this native New Yorker is best known for having photographed fashion and celebrity icons in some of the most legendary venues of New York nightlife. Who doesn’t remember her iconic image of Jade Jagger riding a white horse in Studio 54 on her 30th birthday? Hartman was one of the very first fashion photographers to shoot models

and designers backstage, which featured in her first book “Birds of Paradise: An Intimate View of the New York Fashion World.” In 2011–12, a retrospective of her work, including more than 60 photographs, was held at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Over the past 40 years her work has appeared in The New York Times, London Sunday Times, Vanity Fair, Vogue (US, French, Dutch, and Italian), New York Magazine, Marie Claire, Alllure, Elle Magazine, BBC.com, Grazia, Le Journal de la

Photographique, Colette, The Daily Beast, W, Rolling Stone, among many other international publications including books. In 2016, the compelling and hugely entertaining feature-length documentary film, “The Incomparable Rose Hartman”, by Otis Mass, was made about her life and work. The documentary was awarded a special mention at the DOC NYC 2016 Film Festival.
