Having studied at the Art Academy in Trondheim, Norway, and Kunsthochschule Berlin Weissensee, Germany, Johansson took his masters degree at Malmö Art Academy, Sweden, 2005. After that he has taken part in several residencies and exhibited both within and outside of S w e d e n . Some of his most important exhibitions include: Malmö Art Museum (SE), Galerie Filomena Soares (PT), Moscow Museum of Modern Art (RU), Meessen de Clercq (BE), Ystads Art Museum (SE) and Nikolaj Contemporary Art Center (DK). He currently lives and works in Malmö, Sweden “I am also intrigued by irregularities in daily life. Not those that appear when something extraordinary occurs, but the kind of irregularity that is created by an accidental form of regularity. Same colours or patterns on two different objects, two people passing each other dressed in the same outfits, a parking space packed by only red cars or discovering that an actor is playing two different roles at the same time when switching between TV channels. “ Driven by the agenda to densify the world, objects are morphed into precisely stacked rectangular shapes, connected to a certain place, where their original purpose are transformed into catalysts of new meanings. Outdated items within the same colour range are reconstructed into a homogeneous image of a fictional life reinforced by our collective imaginary: the compressed scenery from a time gone by. Or the excessively well packed storage space where each object appears to be an immutable part of a solid whole. The newfound rigid order separates the objects from their usage, and invites us to a shared space where the familiar meets the unfamiliar. Engaging with this concept in the public space, the viewer is confronted with a situation that could both be perceived as either a very odd incident or as carefully put together. Leaving him with an uncertainty that lingers even long after passing the work.

Walking around to find doubles of seemingly unique, though often useless objects I have already purchased at another flea market, is not only an inquisitive activity for me but part of my working process. Despite the fact that I did not have any use for most of these objects in the first place, the unlikeliness of discovering them twice in two different places makes the desire for their possession irresistible. The unique and the unknown origin of the object increases my wish to own its double. The rules compelling me in selecting things at flea markets are also central to my art practice.

FIRST ITALIAN FASHION HOUSE EN BOUTIQUES IN CHINA OR A F E M A L E D E S I G N E R S T I L L N G T H E F A M I L Y L E G A C Y .

This pairing signalled the birth of an era in modelling, proving a stroke of genius in creating the media storm that followed. Crucial in coining the term “Supermodels” as we know today. The models all became household names - Linda, Naomi, Christy, Kate and Cindy, championed by Donatella & the late Gianni Versace. Lead the way for the 2nd generation of Supermodels included Stephanie, Nadja, Kristen, Shalom, Claudia, Karen, Helena and Elle all perpetuating the phenomena. Fast forward to FW2013/14 Mens collections which marked the 35th Anniversary for Versace’s signature style. With each season the house codes are reinterpreted by Donatella for Versace along with collaborators for Versus. Famously worn by an entourage of celebrities, including current face of Versace, Lady Gaga. Collaborations included H&M by Versace range released mid 2013, which sold out within hours of launch. Personifying the growing demand for this Italian Luxury titan to the more recent HAAS brothers.

A4

Versace celebrates its second curated collaboration with LA-based designers, The Haas Brothers. The Brothers have worked with Donatella Versace to create a limited edition range of fashion & design items available at the Versace boutiques in SoHo, Paris, Shanghai & Beijing Sanlitun and online at www.versace.com In 1978, at the age of 31, the late Gianni Versace launched his company with a celebrated womenswear line named Gianni Versace Donna. The collection would embody everything he believed his woman to be; sexy, self confident, strong & awe inspired, like his sibling muse, Donatella. As children their kindred spirit would later extend into their work. And as fate would bring Donatella to later take over reigns of Versace designing for both mens and womenswear lines (upon Gianni’s passing).

The collection sees the world of Versace through the eyes of The Haas Brothers which marked the second collaboration; who created a special collection for Versace Home, which was unveiled at Salone del Mobile in Milan in April 2013. “I am thrilled to be working with the Haas Brothers on this special curator project. I love how they take the codes of Versace and bring them somewhere new, pushing Versace forward into a whole other world.” Donatella Versace

Fashion brands thrive with each defining moment, for Gianni and Donatella. It came in the form with encouragement from the late Liz Tilberis, during the early 90’s, then Editor of UK Vogue, suggested Gianni use the top models from the catwalk shows to appear alongside the male models in all their print Advertising campaigns (which became a Versace signature and paving the way forward for many). The campaigns were lensed by family friend and long time collaborator Richard Avedon (and styled by Dontella).

During the Salone del Mobile Bart Hess and MU Eindhoven presented Work With Me People (part III) in the magnificent Palazzo Clerici in the heart of Milan. It was the third time, after Dutch Design Week 2012 and the 2013 Fashion Biennale in Arnhem, that MU and Hess invited the audience to take part in the creation of Bart’s other-worldly materials. Work With Me People refers to the discrepancy between, on the one hand, the post-Fordian creative industry, and on the other the huge amount of work required to sustain it. The innovative format of the project offers insight into the production process of the couture textiles by Bart Hess and invites Salone visitors to take part in making them.

MENS HEALTH COVERS

The teething years: I grew up in Dubbo surrounded by a family who placed great importance on education and health. My Dad, always led by example with his sport and exercise regime and mum with an eye for quality food, always prepared nutritional goodness for us. Always encouraged to learn, play sport and pursue musical avenues. Myself and my siblings were given the most fortunate foundations to dream, believe and achieve our goals. A thirst for learning has been a tool for my training endeavours which developed from a young age. Motivation: My goal was not to be a cover model, it was a consequence of years of learning about the mechanics of the body and healthy eating systems and putting theory into practice. My motivation was simply to achieve a balanced lifestyle in which all areas of life contribute and are given more or less equal weight. The end result, a healthy mind equals a healthy body and vice versa. The easiest way for me to do this is visualise all aspects of my life as pieces of a round pie which would include work, training, health, spirituality, sleep, education,

music, relationships and ascertain what is getting too much attention or too little attention and adjust to balance the pie. Visualisation is a powerful tool and has always given me purpose and an ideal to strive toward. Another powerful motive for me is inspiring others around me to achieve their health and fitness goals. My training partner who is also my younger brother was recently nominated as Mens Health Man of the Year and appeared in the September 2012 issue of Men’s Health magazine, a huge achievement. I think given the right direction anyone can achieve their goals, it is just how much they are willing to go for it, prioritise health and fitness and the results will follow. A healthy routine and consistency, are fundamental to achieving anything. If it was easy everyone would be whatever they want to be tomorrow. It requires hard work, discipline, sacrifice and day to day consistent efforts to reach your goals. Motivation is what gets you started but good habits are what keep you going. I set daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals, your motivation must come from within. We are all creatures of habit, once we set the wheels in motion, a routine forms which becomes its own motivator. The results, being a healthy mind and body are by-products of good habits. Time management is crucial. Every week I am balancing multiple workloads

which include town planning, personal training, modelling, and promotional work. I am always time poor so I must prioritise my time to train, prepare meals and make sure I have adequate sleep, which means that I will often sacrifice the not so important TV or pub time.

A4

Todays routine: Modelling requires me to stay in shape all year round. I model for fitness brands, magazines, fashion labels, catwalk shows, TV commercials and events. The diversity of the modelling work requires me to work hard to meet those requirements and stay in the correct shape. Over the past four years, this has been challenging as my diet and training have been forced at times to adapt through injury, changed through boredom, challenged through hard times and developed through learning but what is important is that I have created successful life habits and a daily routine which allows for change but requires consistent effort. I structure my week ahead. I know how many on/off training days I will have and I aim to eat perfectly 5 days a week, I don’t count calories or measure my protein/carbs/fat rather I eat with purpose to achieve my training goals for that day/week/month. I listen to my body and provide it with everything it needs to keep it healthy.

en, kangaroo, beef, tofu, quinoa, lentils, vegetables, brown rice, oats and fruit are popular items on the menu through the week. I also include power smoothies or fresh vegetable juices rich in micro nutrients every morning. I prepare my meals in advance, making two or three meals at one time as it is not uncommon for me to eat 6 meals per day and drink over 3litres of water. A weekly regime like this not only fuels my body to train and stay lean but it improves my sleep, well being, improves energy levels throughout the day and saves time! Modelling the challenge: My life like anyone else’s, presents as a series of challenges and opportunities. The harder I work, the luckier I get at finding opportunities around every corner. Modelling came to me as an opportunity. Every casting is another opportunity. I was lucky to be in the right shape at the right time and with one days notice I casted for Mens health and shot the cover two days later, which has since turned into 3 covers.

At the moment, foods such as chick-

ciate the opportunity to be flown across Australia and overseas for modelling jobs and earn a modest income doing what I enjoy. The challenge for me is to continue to model into my 30s and beyond and continue to learn about all things health and fitness. I think I can achieve this if I continue to follow the lifestyle I have set for myself and practice what I preach. A modelling season overseas is in my sights as well, I like the look of Cape town and New York which is next on my agenda. DOK

“Conceptual art is often associated with a dematerialisation of the art object”,but contrary to this idea, few artists seek to avoid materiality altogether. We sat down tion show to

with S J Krieg post Gradualearn more about her works.

MLM: Is there an artwork here you are most proud of? Why? SJK: That’s a tough question, its not often as hierarchical like that. Each work begins to represent for me the realisations that accompanied bringing the work to fruition. One work in my space at the moment is Silence Like a Poultice, Comes, To Heal the Blows of Sound. It’s a continued exploration from my practice last year and my interest in the space between the artist and the viewer. It uses sign language as a parody of the artwork as recognisable yet often unread medium, and contemplates the nature of this silent engagement with art. I’ve made three works in this manner and they’ve been a turning point for me in accepting the variety of media that have increasingly become a part of my practice. The sentiment in this particular work, if you read the symbols, is utmost calm. It’s my acceptance of the divide between myself and the audience. MLM: How do you know when a work is finished? A work of art is never finished, only abandoned. What inspires you? What inspired these particular pieces? SJK: Semiotics is an unrelenting interest of mine and has been the main driver for these works. Architecture and industrial design inspire me materially. MLM: What is your most important artist tool? Is there something you can’t live without in your studio? SJK: I cant narrow it down to one! Floor space, there’s never quite enough. My hands. A chair, for thinking time. Thinking time itself. An artist that helped me immensely this year was Nike Savas, who took notice of my natural tendency to think the work into place, and warned me not to ‘think myself into a corner’. It freed me up to let the making take equal footing again with the thinking. The wood workshop has been an absolute necessity to me. So many tools. I couldn’t have done without the drill press. MLM:

did

you

making

art?

SJK: Several years into art school. I’ve been creating all my life, but it was only then that I grasped the fuller weight of art making. It probably required equal parts of art education, the work of lecturers in breaking my down my prejudices and natural tendencies, and my discernment to hold on to certain things and let go of others.

Background:

Wyman Wong, was born on the 21st May 1969. Having been a Cantonese Pop music lyricist for the past 15 years has earned his place with the HK/ Asia music industry. Back in 2003, he began writing a fashion column in the Apple Daily, titled “Buy me a Sunday”which explored trends, personal finds and inspiration. The misconception of Cantonese music industry is that its only about love songs. Which allowed his research and lyrical attributes to delve into a wider range of topics—as diverse as the the pop songs in Japan, Britain or France. Wong has had a few roles in movies whilst dabbling in styling and as personal shopper for his celebrity and socalite clients. “My career could easily be considered shopping, something I’ve been devoted to since the age of 3”. Wyman’s penchant for fashion, has seen him collaborate and welcomed by countless Designers, Artists and Curators.

A4

His mother was a tailor so he

LAB

was exposed to creativity at an early age. She performed catwalk shows for the family often by dressing up, Wyman developed a sophisticated yet brave style when it came to trying new things Experimentation developed into a good sense of taste. But Wong reminds himself often of the need to take risks. On

Collaborations:

His latest collaboration projects included two figurines with DesignerEric So,for theYSOFUN ,the figures embodied a distinct sartorial approach. A regular blacktie version as well as a special pink “ Birthday” version, to celebrate Wyman’s birthday, are each retailing separately through Papamamason.com His most recent project and showcase concert, started earlier in February 2013 and continued for a span of six days. This concert showcased all the works that Wong has written for the last 19 years. It not only brought back many memories for the audience but also brought back around 50 notable performers, including Eason Chan, Sammie Cheng and Joey Yung. 210

On

Fashion:

Wyman’s no stranger to fashion, as seen in the past European show season seated front row for countless designers in Milan and Paris. With his favourite designers to include: COMME des GARCONS, he explained for going against the grain and defying the conventional l ogic of creating clothes, YSL by Stefano Pilati for his never ending self-evolution in design, Viviene Westwood for her unconventional sensibility and finally Raf Simons for bringing street to high fashion through re-appropriation. Few talent can command such celebration across multiple disciplines. Its a mutual appreciation for Wong’s perfectionist persona which grants him a right of passage that others listen to and take in with stride. “In my usual line of work, I’m often working solo. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing as I chose this sort of environment and I thrive under these conditions.” “I rarely team-up, unless I get a good feeling for the right opportunity.” We foresee many more to come. “Eddie Granger’s work is about observing nature. For Granger the number 3 holds high significance as it represents the three elements of nature: earth, wind and fire. He uses the number 3 as the basis for construction of his works. Many of the lines that pulsate through them are made of three colors. Those lines not comprised of three colors are duplicated two more times throughout the piece, making them three of a kind. Granger’s background in architecture is evident is his compositions. Their controlled fluidity is an intentional effort to create something at once structured and formless. Granger also draws inspiration from fauvism, imbuing his works with the bold colors of the movement.”

Theres just not enough money or attention in one area you see. My speciality is Sebastian. LAB A4// Tell us something we dont know about you? SEBASTIAN// I can’t read good...? Maison de Macarons and Fabricant de Douceurs since 1862.

This cornerstone idea perpetuated the success of the brand along with the little treats it served, the macaroons. With seasonal flavours that played with the local produce and celebrated the tecnical abilities of the Pâtisserie. The Holder Groupe took over Ladurée in 1993, taking the plans to turn Ladurée from the single rue Royale bakery into a chain, setting up pastry shops and tea rooms on the Champs-Élysées and in Le Printemps, in 1997 and Bonaparte, 2002. The expansion developments of Ladurée sees new opportunities explored in England, Monaco, Switzerland, Japan, Italy, Lebanon, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Luxembourg, Kuwait, Ireland, and the USA. And more recently in Brazil, Sweden, Hong Kong store and Korea. The Australian store situated in Sydney opened its doors mid year within the Westfields complex tantilizing Australian clients with a selection of signature treats and macaroons flown direct from Paris. -Ladurée made the pastries for the film Marie Antoinette, directed by Sofia Coppola

The bakery was founded on Rue Royale, Paris in 1862, where chubby cherubs dressed as pastry cooks, of the renewed store built in 1871, (the original was burnt down during the uprise) formed the company’s emblem. The interior designed by Jules Chéret were painted in the same celadon colour as the façade. Ladurée’s rise to fame came in 1930 when grandson, Pierre Desfontaines, had the original idea of sticking two macaron shells together with a creamy ganache as filling forming the double decker concept.

LAB A4: Big break and what was the defining moment? JORDAN: There are a few defining moments but if I had to pick one it would be flying to London to meet Tom Ford! It was quite surreal and I think it was at this moment we thought that we should give it a good go! LAB A4: Who would you say is your mentor or someone you aspire to? JORDAN: It’s cliched but my Dad, Damien Stenmark. He has achieved so much with hard work and always done it in an honourable way. LAB A4: Fav quote or motivational saying? JORDAN: “Somewhere out there someone is working harder than you.” LAB A4: What is your definition of success? JORDAN: I don’t always define success as what

others think of me ......I think that if I can look back on my life and feel contentment with who I am, what I’ve done and how I have treated people, that will be my success. LAB A4: Favourite or signature scent? JORDAN: At the moment its Tom Ford Tobbaco Vanille LAB A4: Must have wardrobe pieces? JORDAN: Couldn’t be without my Nike free runs LAB: When researching for our cover, we often hear of twins being intrinsically intune, can you tell us some similarities and differences between Zac and yourself? JORDAN: Spending so much time together we do have quite a few similarities and are pretty connected despite having very different personalities. Having the same body type we have always enjoyed and been successful at the same sports. Zac is slightly taller than me and at the moment I have the facial hair so people are finding it easier to tell 281

Possible movie and television opportunites are in the pipeline. LAB A4: Tell us something we dont know about you? JORDAN: I am a crazy NBA fan. I would never miss a game especially when the Dallas Mavericks are playing and they play 82 games a season and playoffs!! Thanks, Jordan,

LAB A4: Which Agencies do you belong? EDWARD: NYModels NY, Boss Manchester

it can only mean one thing, time to sit back and relax haha. LAB A4: Must have wardrobe pieces? EDWARD: Black bomber jacket, black jeans, black shoes and everything else black, and when my line is launched next year then obviously an Edward Wilding sweater.

LAB A4: Big break and what was the defining moment? EDWARD: Big break was my first job more or less for Versace Campaign along side Kate Moss and Joan Smalls

LAB A4: Whats your fav tracks or playlist? EDWARD: At the moment has to be Drakes new album but music is such an import thing while shooting or before a cat walk as it can change your attitude so much. Watch the last Versace show and you will see I was blasting out Jay Z before I came out hahaha

LAB A4: Who would you say is your mentor or someone you aspire to? EDWARD: I don’t follow any footsteps I want to make my own mark on things and also in the industry buy being the “normal” guy who refuses to let the “bullshit” change me. LAB A4: Fav quote or motivational saying? EDWARD: Don’t follow the crowd, stand out from it LAB A4: What is your definition of success? EDWARD: Hahaha possibly the best question ever asked. I’d say being able to provide for my family and know I’ve worked hard for the benefit of others not just for myself.

A4

LAB A4: Favourite or signature scent? EDWARD: My favourite scent has to be whiskey

LAB

WITH EDWARD WILDING

LAB A4: What can we expect from you in the coming year?
