Ugu welcomes fieldworkers

THE Gamalakhe Community Health Centre is urging residents to welcome field workers sent out by the Department of Health to their homes to conduct Covid19 home tests and screening. Door-todoor home screening began in Enkulu on Friday, April 17. CHC public relations officer Lefa Radebe said field workers had not been welcomed into some homes in the community due to an unfounded stigma that they were spreading the virus. He further urged people to adhere to lockdown regulations. PHOTO: SUPPLIED

FTER 35 days of a completely restrictive national lockdown or what is now known as Level 5 lockdown, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that from Friday, May 1 lockdown restrictions would be slightly eased and the country would be moving into Level 4. This has meant the alleviation of several restrictions particularly in the country’s economy, as several sectors were allowed to commence with their services subject to extreme precau-

tions. While addressing the nation on Thursday, April 23, President Ramaphosa said some businesses would be allowed to resume operations under specific conditions. “Every business will have to adhere to detailed health and safety protocols to protect their employees, and workplace plans will be put in place to enable disease surveillance and prevent the spread of infection,” said President Ramaphosa. Speaking after the president’s announcement, Ray Nkonyeni Municipality mayor Nomusa Mqwebu said the municipality would soon release localised information on which

businesses will be able to operate and which wouldn’t, following a final round of consultations this week. “All businesses that are permitted to resume operations will be required to do so in a phased manner, first preparing the workplace for a return of the workforce in batches of no more than one third,” said Mqwebu. She said in some cases, a sector will not be able to return to full production during Level 4 while the risk of infection remains high. “Businesses will be encouraged to adopt a work-from-home strategy where possible. All staff who can work remotely must be al-

ON April 26, the South Coast lost one of its dedicated members of the community, Ayub Moosa. He was known for his promotion of local soccer, but was also part of the Bargain Wholesalers team since July 2013. “We were inspired by his sharp mind and hard work. He was so kind and warm to all staff members and customers alike of all levels. We are devastated at his untimely passing,” said Mohamed Mahdi Khan of the Bargain Group. “He was an empowering and an inspirational individual. He let his work speak for itself and shied away from glory and praise. We will always remember his humour, patience and caring nature, we are in deep pain on his passing away. Los-

We once again extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family. May his soul rest in peace and the Almighty grant him the highest abode in paradise,” said Khan. According to Moosa’s family, he died from ill health. Ray Nkonyeni Municipality deputy mayor Ronnie Nair also paid tribute to Moosa on his Facebook page. “It is with deep regret that we learn about the passing away of one of the great sons of the South Coast. Ayub Moosa’s demise comes as a shock to the community and to all who knew him,”he said. “His care and concern for the broad-
