Greetings Brothers! The 2012 Spring Semester is coming to an end and it has been a very busy for the Brothers of Kappa Psi. Our newly installed officers are ready to hit the ground running this New Year and keep Kappa Psi at the forefront of the School of Pharmacy and the community. As we continue to grow together as a Brotherhood, we also look to expand our impact in the local community through our service and philanthropy. We are hard at work developing new ways for our Brothers to serve the school and community, while maintaining the values that make us Kappa Psi. We are always looking for ways to get involved, let us know if you have any suggestions or ideas for future events that Kappa Psi could take part. If any of you are ever back in the Creek, please come by and see us!

Fundraising Events Kappa Psi has been involved in a number of fundraising activities this year and continues to work to provide for charities and foundations of particular importance to the brothers. We were privileged enough to be able to give back to wonderful organizations such as the Children’s Miracle Network and the American Heart Association- Go Red for Women campaign. Ranging from bake sales to a Crossfit relay and Zumbathon to benefit Childhood Obesity Awareness, the Delta Lambda chapter values the importance of providing to community foundations. This semester, we had a successful fundraising activity where we sold CUCPHS beach towels to raise money for the Province expected to be held in Buies Creek in the spring of 2013. Next semester, we anticipate selling pharmacy “bar” hats as well as holding our annual “Big Bats” softball tournament and cook-out! We will keep you updated as your support would be truly appreciated. For more information please contact Carly Cawrse at cacawrse0716@email.campbell.edu.

Service . . .To support all projects which will advance the profession of pharmacy & to actively participate. The service committee and fellow brothers have been busy planning new service projects, as well as carrying out our annual events. Brothers have been busy cleaning up the streets of Buies Creek with three roadside events. We helped to host the annual Valentine’s Day party at Brookfield Nursing Home and it was a great success! The fall 2011 pledge class designed a brochure and pocket size Personal Medical Record (PMRs) that was displayed an handed out at this year’s CUCPHS health fair on campus on March 27th.

We are proud to announce that Delta Lambda was awarded the COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD by the Province III Executive Committee on March 24th during the last ever Province III meeting in Washington, D.C! For our new service project, will hosted blood pressure and blood glucose screenings at X-Cell Fitness in Dunn, NC on March 16th. This was in conjunction with a Zumbathon/CrossFit challenge in order to raise money and bring awareness to childhood obesity. Delta Lambda will also be participating in this year’s Relay for Life as a part of the CUCPHS team. We have had a semester full of rewarding experiences and are very excited to reach out to our community in this way!

Update from the Pledge Master This spring we had 5 awesome pledges. We were all pleasantly surprised to have so many for a spring rush. During pledging, they completed everything asked of them with a smile on their face. During pledging they worked and cooked for our annual spaghetti dinner, threw an awesome pledge party for the brothers, and participated in roadside cleanups, just to name a few things. We were more than pleased with their dedication and hard work. On April 13th we initiated all five pledges in to the Brotherhood to become Kappa Psi Brothers for LIFE!

Scholarship Congratulations to Esther Yi for being chosen as the 2011-2012 scholarship recipient! Applications for the fifth annual Brie Anne Reynolds Memorial Scholarship are currently being deliberated on. This year, there were ten applicants which is the most we have ever had! The scholarship committee is currently selling exam “survival” kits to help support the scholarship. For more information or if you would like to make a donation, please contact Eliana Kurzum at enkurzum0424@email.campbell.edu. We appreciate your support!

Formal Sara Vaughn planned the 2012 Cadet Ball held at Front Street Brewery in Wilmington, NC on March 31st. We had a great turn out this year, with a fun and festive them of “Mardi Gras Mayhem”! This year we held a spaghetti dinner to lower the costs of formal tickets. The outcome of this very successful fundraiser brought the cost of the tickets down from $27 to $20 per person. Several superlatives were announced among the chapter with Janna Currie getting the most unforgettable Brother. Also, Meredith Mahaffee gave out Regent awards to Janna Currie and Amanda Leister for their hard work and assistance to her during her regency. After dinner, an awesome slideshow presentation was Spring 2012

given by our historian, Madhav Bhatt and then everyone danced the night away. It was a weekend full of fun that the Brothers of Delta Lambda will never forget!

Spring Rush With the help of our Brothers, the rush events idea to incorporate that into a Spring Rush event. were a HUGE success. We were able to recruit 5 Brothers and rushees were able to relax and get to amazing pledges, who will soon become Brothers know one another. of Kappa Psi! The first event kicked off with a Greek Potluck, where our IFC committee organized a tri-fraternal event. Brothers from all fraternities joined together for fellowship over delicious treats! Regents/presidents from each fraternity took this opportunity to invite potential pledges to rush events. Blizzard Blast has become a tradition and was our first spring rush event. Brothers and rushees gathered over desserts, hotcocoa and games where they were able to talk and get to know one another. The second rush event was making Valentine’s cards for Brookfield Nursing Home in Lillington, NC. Brothers and rushees take a break from making Since a huge part of what we do is centered cards to pose for the camera! around service, we thought it would be a great 6th Annual Brie Anne Reynolds Memorial Golf Tournament When: Saturday, October 6th, 2012 Where: Crooked Creek Golf Club in FuquayVarina, NC.
