World Book Day celebrations 2024

In the library we celebrated World Book Day with a display of the free books available to students with their Book tokens. Students were able to see all the books available and could go to the bookstore to pick up their chosen book. We gave out lots of book tokens and also emailed them to all students. You can still pick up a free book until the end of March.

Design a book token competition

We had templates available for students to design a

book token for a national competition. They could win book tokens for themselves and their class and the winning designs will be seen in stores!

Blue Peter badge

We had some great applications for the Blue Peter Book Badge in the library. If you earn a Blue Peter badge you can gain entry to over 200 UK attractions, for FREE! Pop by the library to get an application form and we’ll send it for you once complete!

WORLD BOOK DAY

WORLD BOOK DAY IS THE CELEBRATION OF STORIES AND PEOPLE’S FAVOURITE BOOKS.

CREEPY CREATIONS IS A REALLY GOOD BOOK, WITH LOTS OF JUMPSCARES, I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THE REST OF THE DREAD WOOD SERIES.

Ramadan is a celebration for Muslims across the world. In Ramadan, they try to refrain from eating and drinking. This is called fasting. Fasting is a private act of worship bringing about nearness to God, as well as a form of spiritual discipline and a means to empathise with those less fortunate. The fast is broken at the end of the day with prayer and a festive meal called an iftar. It is customary to visit family and friends following the iftar.

Our student team researched Ramadan books and decorations then designed and put together the display and good books to read to learn about Muslim characters and Islam.

National Panda Day National Panda Day

National Panda Day is on March 16! Here are some fun facts about them:

Did you know?

They spend 14 hours just eating

This amounts to consuming up to 83 pounds of bamboo every day, depending on what part of the bamboo they are eating.

Their scientific name has an odd meaning and is Ailuropoda melanoleuca, which means black and white cat foot (literally big bear cat)!

Newborn pandas are blind

They start to see around 6 weeks old.

Throughout their lives, they rely on spatial memory more than visual memory.

They serve as an International symbol of friendship and peace.

World Compliment Day

World Compliment Day takes place every year on March 1st but we think you can celebrate it everyday! Put a smile on someone’s face with a compliment, it can be as simple as ‘ I like your hair today’ or ‘ You look nice!’

Here are 4 ways to celebrate:

1. Call a friend and say something kind

2. Hug a family member or friend

3. Thank someone for caring for you

4. Compliment a random person

The library team giving each other compliments!

International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th March.

It was created to inspire inclusion and highlight the importance of different genders in society.

Every Women’s Day has a different theme. This years was “Inspire Inclusion.”

BLIND DATE WITH A BOOK

One of our student librarians had a brilliant idea to make a ‘Blind

Date with a Book’ display. Jess chose books, looked up information about the books’ genres and themes, and with a group of friends, prepared the display. Finley designed the poster. It has been very popular with many students borrowing the wrapped books and finding a good match or trying out a book they wouldn’t usually have chosen!
