Bricolage Magazine 2025 Issue 6

Page 1

Dear Readers,

Thank you for joining us for a new edition of BRICOLAGE! Our theme for our sixth issue was “serendipity.” We have indeed discovered stunning moments and amazing chances throughout this endeavor. We invite you to journey with us into the transformative whirlwind that is fashion and see how we have flourished in the unpredictable.

Our unique experiences are splashed across these pages. A thread of the unexpected runs through each and every photoshoot. Students have experimented with paint-splattered looks to add a dash of creativity to businesswear, donned carved pumpkins for adventures in nature, and delighted in glamorous, jewelry-dripping moments.

A huge shoutout to our BRICOLAGE team! A lot of time and effort was poured into these astonishing photoshoots that were planned and executed by students in the Apparel Merchandising and Design program. Special thanks to our photographers, Jacob Spiekermeier and Kirk Monson, who partnered with us and worked fervently to capture our magical images. We also appreciate our graphic design team, the Visual Communication and Design students, who have patiently crafted each spread and compiled our magazine so that we can showcase our collaborative efforts. We are grateful to our advising faculty, April Elisha Stanley and David Brandstetter, for their continued mentorship and support throughout this entire project.

We hope you enjoy this spectacular edition of BRICOLAGE! May your world be filled with serendipitous encounters,

“All human beings have the ability to transform like a caterpillar emerging from its cocoon and taking to the sky.”
Jim Rohn
“My coat of many colors that my momma made for me. Made only from rags but I wore it so proudly.”

Dress for Success

Old hollywood 1940’s is our main inspiration for this shoot, the concept is to recreate old hollywood with a splatter painted, edgy twist on our business attire.

Sticking to our underlying theme of ‘sustainability’ and ‘dressing for success’ we have managed to come up with an out of the box, unique array of clothing, accessories and hairstyles. The main color palette will contain black and white, with subtle accents of magenta.

“Dress for the job you want,
- The Business of Fashion not the job you have.”
“Elegance is when the inside is as beautiful as the outside.”
- Coco Chanel
“You can have anything you want in life if you dress for it.”
- Edith Head

Glam to PJam

“Glam to PJam” is based on coming home from a fun night out with your best friends. We imagine this as coming home from a red carpet event, walking around during fashion week, or anything black tie, which will be unveiled through the first outfits. The whole night you had to put an act on and be professional where coming home to the hotel is the exact opposite. You and your friends dance around the hotel having your own little party eating whatever you want, dancing however you want, having fun, and truly being yourselves. You then change into your pjs and continue dancing around some more. This theme exemplifies the serendipity or happy accident because the night was planned for fancy events and being professional but the real fun of it was coming home with all your best friends, dancing around, and being yourselves.

“Life is a party. Dress for it.” Audrey Hepburn
“Friendship is the wine of life” Edward Young
“Life is short, wear your party pants.” Loretta Laroche

“You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching, love like you’ll never be hurt, sing like there’s nobody listening, and live like it’s heaven on earth.

“True friends are like diamonds- bright, beautiful,
valvuable, and always in style.” Nicole Richie

JewelryBox

Jewelry Box’ is a whimsical re-imagination of the traditional, forgotten box of jewelry tucked away in your attic. This enchanting experience breathes new life into timeless pieces, presenting them with a touch of modern flair. Through the interplay of vibrant colored lighting that sets the mood and the ethereal presence of our radiant models showcasing exquisite jewelry, we guide you through an inexhaustible array of styles. Picture a cascade of regal purples illuminating gleaming gold, and serene blues enhancing the brilliance of silver. In this journey, we seamlessly blend classic elegance with contemporary allure, creating a unique and captivating representation of jewelry styles.

“Give a girl the right jewelry and she can conquer the world.”
Rachel (Medium)
“Jewelry is the most transformative thing you can wear.”
Iris Apfel
“Jewelry is eternal, it never goes out of fashion, it will alway be there.” Kate Moss
“Jewelry has the power to be the one little thing that makes you feel unique.”
Elizabeth Taylor

Mysterious Pumpkin Heads

This photoshoot was organized and directed by Mackenzie Lynn. The purpose of this shoot was to give a mysterious, fun, and unique look. These mysterious pumpkin heads took an adventure to Palisades - Kepler State Park, while having a pizza picnic, walking the park streets, and being mysterious.

This photoshoot aims to capture the simple beauty of the human body. Keeping the hair and skin in its most natural state on every model, we will create a stunning raw portrait of each individual’s unique appearance. Through the use of black and white photos and contrasting shadows, our captivating textures and unique silhouettes will be showcased elegantly. Focusing on the earthly connection between our planet and our bodies, flowers will help depict the natural beauty and purity of nature’s creations. Our bodies are art and this shoot aims to further illuminate that idea in all types of bodies

Clou ded

Join us in “the cloud” to revisit the dream aesthetic that kicked off the new millennium.

Inspired by 3D avatars and pixel dolls created by digital artists in the early 00s, these virtual creations allowed anyone to dress up in the hottest styles of the time. From organic “blob” shapes in futuristic chrome to endless accessories in translucent neon colors, these designs reflected the cutting-edge technology of the era.

Virtual reality is a self-crated form of chosen reality. Therefore it exists.

- Joan Lowery Nixcon

Over 20 years in, the innovative tech in unique designs has been replaced by uniform greige minimalism and the omnipresent cloud. Remote servers in warehouses with underground fiber optic cables constantly run to receive and transmit information in seconds. All of this is kept out of sight, allowing us to overlook the high electric and water consumption required to keep it running, the noise pollution, and the dangerous conditions miners and production workers face when handling rare metals needed for today’s everyday tech. With all that’s been uploaded and solely created digitally in the cloud, there’s a looming dark age of knowledge as access to cloud-based files is being revoked, file types are no longer supported, and with no physical presence, who’s to say it ever existed at all?

WEDDING

A wife finds out on her wedding day that her husband has egregiously betrayed her. She tries to keep it together but slowly crumbles and begins to cry during the wedding photos. She has loved this man since she was 16 and cannot fathom her life without him, but she cannot be with someone who would dupe her like that. Realization blooming, she runs away right before the wedding, leaving behind only her bouquet and shoes to be found. This photoshoot was organized and directed by Ryann Wombacher.
