Ein afrikanischer Priester kämpft mit seinem Gewissen. «Kuhani» ist inspiriert vom Brief des Priesters Anthony Musaala an die Katholische Kirche. Er ist einer der vielen Ugander, die nach der Einführung des Anti-HomosexuellenGesetzes (seither vom Verfassungsgericht für rechtswidrig erklärt) verfolgt wurden.
Der Film zeigt die Abgabe eines weissen Zwerghasen an eine scheinbar desinteressierte Gefängnisinsassin. Kann sie beweisen, dass sie sich angemessen um das Tier kümmert, wird ihre Strafe leicht reduziert. Alleine in ihrer engen Zelle tut sie sich zuerst schwer, sich mit dem Hasen Alex anzufreunden.
Am 3. Oktober 2013 sank ein Boot mit über 500 eritreischen Flüchtlingen vor der Küste von Lampedusa. Über 360 Menschen ertranken. Einer der Überlebenden, Abraham, geht durch einen Schiffsfriedhof und erinnert sich an das albtraumhafte Erlebnis. Währenddessen werden im Hafen Hunderte von Särgen auf ein Militärschiff geladen... On 3 October 2013, a boat carrying 500 Eritrean refugees sunk off the coast of the island of Lampedusa. Over 360 people drowned. One of the survivors, Abraham, walks through a ship graveyard and remembers this nightmarish experience. Meanwhile at the harbour, hundreds of coffins are being loaded onto a military ship. Morgan Knibbe graduated from the Netherlands Film Academy (AHC) in 2012 with his short experimental «A Twist in The Fabric of Space». «Shipwreck» is his first independent film. He is currently developing his first feature film, which focuses on the lives of refugees at the borders of Europe.

A conflicted African priest wrestles with his conscience. «Kuhani» was inspired by Catholic priest Father Anthony Musaala’s open letter to the Catholic church. He is one of many Ugandans who have been persecuted as a result of the countries Anti-Homosexuality Act (now ruled invalid by the Constitutional Court). Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (*1967) is a dual citizen of Uganda and the USA working in the mediums of photography, theatre, film and television. He earned a degree in Fine Arts from Tisch School of Arts, and studied at the University of Virginia, the Moscow Arts Theatre and the Royal National Theatre London.
The film follows the process of a small white rabbit being given to a seemingly disinterested female inmate. If she is capable of taking proper care of the animal, her sentence may be slightly reduced. Left alone in the confinement of her cell, the inmate struggles to connect with Alex, the rabbit. Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre is an actress, producer and director living in Paris. The award-winning «Atlantic Avenue» (2012) was her first short film. Laure is currently developing two films as a producer with the French company MACT Productions and is also writing her next feature film.
