Thema Theme Against Gravity. The Art of Machinima.

Als Machinima bezeichnet man „die Kunst, animierte Filme in einer virtuellen Echtzeit-3D-Umgebung zu machen“, zum Beispiel in Computerspielen. Die Kurzfilmtage zeigen in acht Filmprogrammen und einer Podiumsdiskussion einen umfangreichen Überblick über ein sich konstant weiterentwickelndes Format.

Mit Arbeiten von Alice Bucknell (UK), Jacky Connolly (USA), Harun Farocki (Deutschland), Jamie Jankovic´ (UK), Federica Di Pietrantonio (Italien), Phil Solomon (USA), Total Refusal (Österreich), Ip Yuk-Yiu (Hongkong) und vielen anderen.

Kuratiert von Vladimir Nadein und Dmitry Frolov. Machinima is defined as the “art of making animated films within a real-time virtual 3D environment” such as a gaming engine. In eight film programmes and a panel discussion, Oberhausen is presenting an extensive overview of a constantly evolving format.

Four new programmes in our series which uses the Oberhausen archive as its starting point, curated by Tobias Hering. We continue to examine the Goethe Institut Workshops of the 1980s, two programmes explore gestures of solidarity with the so-called “Third World” made by our festival in the 1970s. Finally, co-curated by Scott Miller Berry, we present “Foster Films” – prints “stranded” in our archive.

Vier Events, in denen wir ganz unterschiedliche Expanded Cinema-Arbeiten präsentieren. Mit den beiden SPECTRAL-Labs LaborBerlin und Filmwerkplaats (Rotterdam) starten wir eine neue dreiteilige Serie von Beispielen aus künstlergeführten Filmlaboren. Der spanische Verleih HAMACA präsentiert Expanded Cinema-Arbeiten aus Spanien. Außerdem wird als Teil des Profils Marcel Broodthaers eine eigens für Oberhausen konzipierte Multi-LeinwandInstallation gezeigt.

Four events presenting highly diverse expanded cinema works. We’re launching a new three-part series with examples from artist-run labs with the two SPECTRAL labs LaborBerlin and Filmwerkplaats (Rotterdam). Spanish distributor HAMACA is presenting expanded cinema from Spain. In addition, a multi-screen installation conceived specifically for Oberhausen will be part of the Marcel Broodthaers Profile. 27. – 30. 4.

Seit über 40 Jahren sammelt und restauriert die Kinemathek im Ruhrgebiet historisches Filmmaterial des Reviers. Auf den Kurzfilmtagen zeigt die Initiative erneut Highlights aus den eigenen Beständen, unter anderem mit Arbeiten zur Ruhrbesetzung 1923 und zur Verlegung des EmscherUnterlaufs bei Oberhausen Ende der 1940er Jahre. The Kinemathek im Ruhrgebiet has been collecting and restoring historical film material from the former coal-mining area for more than 40 years. In Oberhausen, the initiative will once again show highlights from its holdings, this year including works on the occupation of the Ruhr in 1923 and the diversion of the lower reaches of the Emscher in the late 1940s. Presented and introduced by its director, Paul Hofmann.
