COn Tuesday 11th November Roding Valley held a whole school Remembrance assembly, themed around different perspectives and kindness We were
delighted to present our brilliant and well deserved, year 7 house competition winner, Aisha Hussain ( shared below) and shared 2 minutes of silent reflection A Horse’s Tale by Aisha Hussain
As I mentioned in the previous Parent Bulletin, we will be changing our school management information system To ensure there will be a smooth transition our support staff will be undergoing training during the school day to support this important and exciting move. This may mean that the response to your phone calls or emails may take a little longer than normal over the next few weeks.
At the beginning of the academic year, we introduced a rolling programme of Focus Groups using different students each week This gives us the opportunity to discuss with students their views on important topics that have an impact on their daily school life Most recently I met with a group to talk about contextual safeguarding in the local community
They talked about their journeys to and from school and the experiences that they have had - positive and negativeduring their time here As a result of their feedback, we will be arranging a series of sessions for younger students on road safety and how to travel safely when using public transport
Thank you for your ongoing support with your child’s attendance I have previously talked about the importance of being in school every single day If your child is unwell, please ensure that you follow the absence procedure We will be celebrating students with 100% attendance during the celebration assemblies at the end of term, with some excellent prizes on offer
On 9th December is our Christmas Concert - tickets cost £1 00 and can be purchased via Parentpay We would love to see as many students and families as possible so please come along!
On Friday 12th December we will be serving Christmas Dinner - we will extend the lunch break to ensure that all students have enough time to eat and celebrate with their friends and the staff We will be decorating the main hall and will have festive songs performed by a variety of staff. We also ask for students to wear Christmas jumpers over their uniforms on this date and will be collecting money for charity - a suggested donation of £1 00 will be collected on the gates for those that participate.

It’s hard to believe we’re already counting down to Christmas but what a fantastic couple of weeks it’s been forYear 7!The students have returned from the October half term full of energy, enthusiasm, and curiosity, a perfect way to begin the run-up to the festive season.
On Monday, over 100 excitedYear 7 students set off for an unforgettable trip to London Zoo Despite the wet weather, spirits were high as everyone explored the incredible range of animals The students represented our school brilliantly, showing curiosity, respect, and teamwork throughout the day.A huge thank you to all the staff who supported the trip and made it such a memorable experience!
While half of the year were discovering the wonders of the animal kingdom, the other half took part in a brilliant Enrichment Day led by Mr Patel and MrAnandappa
Students got hands-on sessions in careers exploration, code breaking, and science innovation, learning new skills and expanding their thinking about the future The feedback from staff and students alike has been incredibly positive, a big well done to everyone involved!
OurYear 7 boys’football team showed real determination and teamwork in their latest league match, drawing 3–3 with Davenant It was a thrilling game, full of skill, energy, and resilience

We are already two weeks into the ChristmasTerm, and it's been fantastic to see so many of ourYear 8's coming back with a positive attitude, and a real determination to do well. Classrooms are full of energy, and many of you are showing great focus and effort in your lessons.
Please could I give two reminders for theYear 8 cohort, as we move further into the term, one being that we are showing high standards of behaviour in every lesson This involves showing maturity, following instructions the first time, and representing theYear 8 with pride Also, uniform and punctuality matter We have had a large group of students that are choosing not to wear their blazers around school. Could we please ensure that blazers are worn at all times, and that we are punctual to every lesson
You would have now seen that theYear 8 Reports were sent out this week Please look at these to see the progress that your child has made so far this term.
Top 5 Students with the Highest House Points so far this year are:
1 - Ellie Sau st
2 -AyazAlici

Ahuge well done to theYear 8 NetballTeam who won both of their games played at the Marbella Netball Tour Their energy, motivation, and positive attitude on theTour was fantastic throughout the entireTour, and they were a great representation of Roding Valley!
Ahuge congratulations are in order after ourYear 8 RugbyTeam won the Essex Shield last week After winning their qualifier back in September, they were invited back for the finals and took home the top prize. Just one try conceded on the day!
Lastly, let's make this a term that we can all be proud of - full of hard work, kindness, and positivity
"Success begins with Effort" Together, we have got thisYear 8!
Dear Parent/Carers
Punctuality to School
If your child is late, you must ensure you call the school before 8.30am. We understand there may be heavy traffic on the road from time to time, please allow enough time to navigate the traffic. When a child is absent or late for school, this causes disruption to the rest of the class and causes your child to fall behind. Many thanks - Attendance team
Message from Miss Burke
It has been a fantastic start to this half term, and I am incredibly proud of how wellYear 9 have settled back into school life after the October break.
Over the half term, I had the pleasure of taking ourYear 9 NetballTeam on tour to Marbella The trip was truly outstanding, the students represented our school with pride, showing impeccable behaviour and a positive attitude throughout They made memories that will last a lifetime, and it was wonderful to see such teamwork, determination, and enthusiasm on display
Since returning, we have had an excellent two weeks in school Our Study Skills sessions were extremely well received, with both staff and students sharing fantastic feedback. These sessions provided an important opportunity for our students to develop their revision techniques and understand the importance of effective study habits, not only in preparation for their upcomingYear 9 tests, but also as they begin to think ahead to their GCSEs and option choices early next year
Year 9 also enjoyed a theatre trip to see Hamilton this half term Once again, our students were a credit to the school, showing exceptional behaviour and genuine engagement throughout the experience.
As always, students are expected to attend all of their lessons and engage fully to get the most out of their learning and make the best progress possible Consistent attendance and participation are key to success, and I encourage every student to take pride in their education
Uniform also continues to be a strong focus, when we look good, we work good! It’s fantastic to see so many students taking pride in their appearance, and this will continue to be something we emphasise as part of our high standards acrossYear 9
Overall, it has been a very positive start to the half term, and I could not be prouder ofYear 9’s attitude to learning, participation, and conduct around school. I hope that this positive momentum continues right through to the Christmas break and beyond

I have been very pleased with the way the year group have tackled their first round of PPEs The students have shown real maturity and determination to do incredibly well I hope that the results reflect how much they have worked and prepared for this.
It is important to refer to some emails that have been shared with you and also what was delivered to the children in assembly If the students misbehave in the exam there will be severe consequences These are also the grades that students are expected to put on their college/6th form applications

Message from Ms Wheaton & Mrs Curling
I was lucky enough to have the chance to attend the Capgemini degree apprenticeship event at their St Paul’s office, this is a massive thank you to Mrs Mason for this exciting opportunity I learnt about the company's business as a whole ,the diverse programs they offer, including roles in both business and technology, as well as all the tips and tricks on how to successfully apply for a degree apprenticeship I was also able to make connections within the firm with multiple employees in all sorts of roles whom now I am able to reach out for further support, when progressing after sixth form - Jessie
The trip was a beneficial insight into the life of a degree apprentice at Capgemini, as they showed us their day-today activities, the different networking opportunities they offer, an overview of what Capgemini does as a business as well as having the opportunity to talk to the apprentices themselves in one to one conversations to get to know more about the roles they offer They created a very welcoming environment from the beginning and happily ended the session by connecting with us on LinkedIn - Ellie
At the Capgemini apprenticeship insight event I learnt about the programmes they offer and gained a deeper understanding of which ones may best suit me I then got to speak with current apprentices at the company about their experience and journey there, as well as graduates and why they chose to work for Capgemini Overall, I am very grateful for the opportunity as the event was highly informative, and I would recommend it to anyone looking at applying for apprenticeships or those unsure of their career path post sixth form - Dylan

Students were joined by Iola Sullivan, J PMorgan, Megan Prior, 7IM, LanaAlan, Legal & General and Rhea Ramakrishnan, Schroders. What a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about their roles and how they started their careers in such a variety of companies
Ahuge thank you to the four professionals who answered so many questions I heard plenty of valuable advice being shared and lots of networking and communication skills happening. Thank you CharlotteAdele Smith for organising such a brilliant informative and inspirational workshop
Employer Talks - PWC - 12 November th
Noah Fagelson from PWC came to Roding Valley to talk about early career opportunities and the flying start degree programme
We have 3 students inYear 13 already working their way through the application process for an apprenticeship at PWC His advice and practical tips for them were so insightful Hearing from a current apprentice makes the whole application process more transparent and gives students a real connection to the company It was also incredibly inspirational forYear 12 students too
Year 8 & 9 Netball Tour - Marbella
During the October half term, ourYear 8 and 9 NetballTeam jetted off to Marbella for an unforgettable NetballTour. The trip was absolutely incredible from start to finish, the girls represented the school brilliantly, both on and off the court
Throughout the tour, students took part in intensive training sessions, friendly matches against local teams, and even enjoyed the chance to explore the local area and take in some sunshine!Their enthusiasm, teamwork, and sportsmanship were second to none, and it was wonderful to see them supporting each other and showing such determination in every game
The girls should be extremely proud of themselves not only for their fantastic performances, but also for the way they conducted themselves throughout the trip They were an absolute credit to the school
Year 13 Geneva Trip
‘On the trip to Geneva, we visited the UN Palace of Nations and CERN to learn about particle physics and the Hadron Collider We saw incredible architecture at the Geneva Old Quarter and over 12,000 different species of plants at the Botanical Garden.
We stayed on Lake Geneva's waterfront and even went on a cruise across the lake with the beautiful mountains in the background I got to learn about the structure of the UN and the role Geneva plays in global Human Rights I also learnt what cloud chambers are and what they teach us about the behaviour of positrons and other subatomic particles
The absolute best part of the trip was the company; getting to see Geneva with friends was such a fun experience I cannot express enough how much I loved the trip 11/10 would recommend!’ - Tony Dean 13V
Year 7 London Zoo Enrichment Day Trip
On Monday 10th November, 120Year 7 students visited ZSLLondon Zoo as part of their work in Biology This trip was an extension of their learning, linking to topics covered in class, such as Interactions and Interdependencies and Genetics and Evolution. Seeing these concepts in a realworld context greatly enhanced their understanding and engagement
Despite the rain, everyone had a lot of fun and was exceptionally well-behaved.
Year 8 and 9 students experienced two sensational shows last week - ‘The Devil Wears Prada’and Hamilton. Please read what our fabulous students had to say about both shows!
Year 8 went toThe DominionTheatre to watch ‘THE DEVILWEARS PRADA’ It was the entertainment of a lifetime! Here’s some teacher and student opinions from the show:
‘The Devil Wears Prada’ was such an entertaining experience - the actors were hilarious and the costumes were beautiful and very well made As we entered the theatre, our eyes were drawn to a massive heel and upon entering there was a huge sign on the stage. I would definitely recommend this show Thank you to the English Department for arranging this experience for us ’ - Evie Shorter
‘I thought it was great, it had small parts where it wasn’t as entertaining but it was wonderful at the end’ - Theo Woodcock
‘I think it was brilliant! and the crew set it up nicely’ - Mansi Calucttia
‘It seemed to me and the other teachers that we had a fabulous time and the coach ride was fun for everyone! Thank you for taking your time to read this’ - Sophia Ahmed
‘On Wednesday Year 9 ventured into London to go and see ‘Hamilton’ the musical. We stopped for lunch outside Buckingham Palace and were surprised with a sighting of King Charles as he drove past us as he left Buckingham Palace We then stopped outside and sat down and ate our lunch before heading to the theatre. Although we didn't get to see former RODING VALLEY pupil Jay Perry as Aaron Burr in Hamilton (he was on holiday!), we did get excellent seats and the show was amazing The musical as a whole was phenomenal- especially the song and style of music and it is one of my favourite shows I have ever seen’ – Y9 student
‘Miss Flynn, thank you so much for organising the trip It was honestly amazing!
First we went to Buckingham Palace and saw King Charles come out of the gates. There were loads of black cars and police bikes around him with flashing lights It all happened so fast and I got caught up in the moment, so I didn’t even take any pictures I was just standing there watching and thinking‘wow!’
Then we went to see Hamilton at Victoria Palace Theatre and it was so good. The songs were really fast and cool, like “My Shot” and “The Room Where It Happens ” The stage was spinning and the actors were dancing and rapping it was just really fun’ On the way back, the coach driver was making jokes and everyone was laughing, even the teachers Mr Day said it was one of the best trips and that we were a great group, which was nice to hear’ – Mathew Johnson
ThanksMissFlynn& MrsThompson!

Avery special hot chocolate with Mr Charlton last week for threeYear 7 students celebrating their World War 1 poems We were truly moved by the empathy and depth of ideas, especially those tackling the challenging themes of sacrifice and remembrance All of year 7 read Wilfred Owen's 'Dulce Et Decorum Est' in class and used his magnificent words to inspire their own poem - all of year 7 engaged in this so beautifully but there had to be only 3 winners for the English Department's House Poetry Competition
Aisha Hussain - a truly original voice with the creation of a war horse perspective.
Beatrix Morales -embedded contextual reading and truly evocative.
Oscar Cepla - a haunting poem using Owen's beautiful words.
Aisha’s winning poem was recorded and played in our Remembrance DayAssembly for all of our community to hear - it was a beautiful and very touching moment
