RVHS Parent Bulletin Aspiration Respect Endeavour Week ending: Friday 5th February 2018 “Our vision is to be the school of choice for our local community, developing successful young people with high aspirations, who show respect for all and endeavour to become the very best that they can be.”

Message from the Head of School. As we are approaching the end of this half term, I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your continued support for the school. The school continues to move forward and is now being recognised for some of its excellent work. On 28th January 2018, a delegation of teachers from another local school in Woodford visited our Mathematics department to observe how the subject is taught to our students. They were interested in seeing the Maths Mastery curriculum in action, something which has been implemented quite successfully over the last 5 years. The delegation was very impressed with the teaching methods and student interaction using the Maths Mastery model. It was fantastic to see so many parents attend our Year 9 Options Evening. I hope the event helped you to gain a greater understanding of the options process which in turn helps you and your child in making those important decisions on what to study at Key Stage 4. Please remember the decisions they make now will influence future decisions on what they can study at Key Stage 5 and beyond. Today our Sixth Form students led a fantastic Year 7 Democracy day and our local MP Eleanor Laing was able to attend and provide her support, we will provide you with the full coverage of this event in our next bulletin but attach some photos for your perusal. You will be able to read the press release on http://www.everythingeppingforest.co.uk/ We have some wonderful trips going on over the half term. Students are visiting Disneyland Paris, the City of Paris and another group are off to Italy to Ski. I am sure they will all have a wonderful time. This week was the launch of the ’Name the Houses’ competition. The students need to put forward suggestions for the five house names that will be used in the new house system, to be launched in September. Please encourage your child to submit their ideas; this is a brilliant opportunity to be part of creating a legacy at the school. I would like to remind our Year 11 students that the time is now drawing close to their next PPE’s in March, which will be closely followed by their final exams and ask that they use their time to take on board the advice their teachers have been giving them and to start putting together a revision plan for upcoming months. Please see Year 11 section later in the bulletin for some revision tips and help.
