RVHS Parent Bulletin Aspiration

Respect

Endeavour

Week ending: Friday 2nd November 2018 “Our vision is to be the school of choice for our local community, developing successful young people with high aspirations, who show respect for all and endeavour to become the very best that they can be.”

Message from the Head of School Welcome back to school, after what I hope was an enjoyable extended half term break. Students have come back to school re-charged and prepared for the hard work ahead. Year 11 students start their Pre-Public Exams on Monday and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them in advance for their hard work. I hope that they achieve the grades that are reflective of their preparation at this stage. Next week we also have the Senior Maths Challenge, this is a national challenge that will test the students in Years 11-13 for their problem solving skills – we wish them well for Tuesday. Our Sixth Form Open Evening is on Wednesday 14th November and we will be hosting a number of Taster lessons for Year 11 students later in the half term, please encourage your son/daughter to sign up. We look forward to welcoming them to our Sixth Form – please see media release further in the bulletin. On Friday 9th November, we will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War by holding a minute silence in remembrance with the whole school. We will have poppies available for students to purchase and I encourage you to discuss this with them ahead of Friday. Further information on the centenary can be found at https://www.britishlegion.org.uk/remembrance/ww1-centenary/ I would like to mention that as the nights draw in, the weather deteriorates and the evenings get darker. I would like to urge all parents to speak to their children about remaining safe when travelling to and from school. We often discuss how important it is for students to be aware of their surroundings, so please ask your sons and daughters to take care when travelling home. Please can you also remind your son/daughter the dangers of letting off Fireworks (see RoSPA guidelines to Firework Safety, which are detailed in this bulletin). Finally, can I remind parents/carers that the drive way at the front of the school is for passing through and not somewhere that you can wait at the end of school to pick up your child. If you need to wait, can I encourage you to do this in Sainsbury’s car park or round in Brook Road. Have a fun but safe Fireworks night.
