RVHS Parent Bulletin Aspiration

Respect Endeavour

Week ending: Friday 22nd June 2018 “Our vision is to be the school of choice for our local community, developing successful young people with high aspirations, who show respect for all and endeavour to become the very best that they can be.”

Message from the Head of School It has been a busy week at Roding this week with lots of events and trips happening around the school. I would like to begin by congratulating Cherise Barone, 10V who recently claimed the title of ‘Best in Country’ for her Boxing Skills. Please read her interview with Mr. Price further on in this bulletin The Year 10 Exams began this week and the behaviour and attitude displayed by our Year 10 students has been fantastic. These exams are an important milestone on their journey towards their GCSEs. On Monday staff from the Humanities Department visited Whitebridge Primary School where the students learnt how to survive an earthquake and about building earthquake resistant buildings. Also, Students from Alderton Primary spent time on Tuesday learning about ICT, and Staples Road Primary students learnt about Food and Nutrition on Thursday. This is an amazing opportunity for the primary students to experience some of the subjects they will study when they attend Secondary School. Our Year 12 Students visited Kings College London and were able to learn how to apply to study Politics at university; they also had the opportunity to listen to a talk by the Honourable Baroness Smith of Basildon Our Accelerated Reader students were rewarded for all their hard work with a trip to Chessington which they all thoroughly enjoyed. Yesterday saw the “Roding Valley Bake Off” being held after school. Students spent time baking a variety of cakes, which the judges happily munched through to decide who the winner was. There were so many different varieties that it made it very hard to choose between them. We also welcomed some of our incoming Year 7 students on Thursday from Staples Road Primary, Buckhurst Hill Community Primary and White Bridge Primary for the first of our Year 6 Testing Days.
