RVHS Parent Bulletin Aspiration Respect Endeavour Week ending: Friday 12th January 2018 “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people that prepare for it today”. Malcolm X

Message from the Head of School. Welcome to the parent bulletin of 2018, I would like to begin by wishing everyone a very Happy New Year and welcome all of our students back for the new term. I can report that it has been a very positive first week back in school. Our Year 11 students have been excellent in their PPE exams, I am proud to say that their conduct has been exemplary and their effort fantastic. To allow our students the time to focus on their PPEs, we have taken the decision to extend the deadline for Sixth Form applications from the 15th January to Tuesday 23rd January. Can I also take the opportunity to remind those who enjoy Mathematics and are at a high level of ability that we will be offering A Level Further Mathematics alongside the standard A Level. Rest assured that we have the staff who have the experience of teaching this qualification and achieving the highest grades. Furthermore, we will be extending the offer of the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ – worth half an A Level). The EPQ gives A Level students excellent preparation for university level study and provides additional points for their UCAS application to universities. Students can refer to the EPQ in their UCAS personal statements and at interview to demonstrate some of the qualities that top universities are looking for. Our continued excellent relationship with Debden Park High School (DPHS) within the Epping Forest 6 (EF6) Consortium means that we can offer a very wide selection of A Levels. Students from DPHS currently come here to study Economics due to our expert teaching, whilst our Year 13 Drama students are studying there. This working consortium provides excellent opportunities to all students within our schools. We do teach predominantly A Level but you may have seen that we will also be offering BTECs in IT and Sport. The BTEC in Sport can be taken as an Extended Diploma which is equivalent to 3 A Levels or as a Diploma which is equivalent to 2 A levels and would be studied alongside an A level. Students have the opportunity to study further BTECs at Epping St Johns via the EF6 Consortium in conjunction with A Levels at Roding Valley. . To complement this we offer outstanding careers guidance and pastoral support, the majority of our current students have applied for either University or Higher Level apprenticeships. Last year 95 % achieved their first place university choice including many at Russell Group Universities. Our new build is progressing well; please look at our website for the first 100 days video; https://www.rodingvalley.net/parents/new-building-2018/

Once complete; students and staff will have access to a brand new library, Sixth Form Study Centre and classrooms. We will be updating the videos throughout the next few months
