DEVELOPING WORKFORCE THAT WORKS. When recruiting corporate relocations and expansions to Palm Beach County, one of the top deciding factors is access to talent. Palm Beach County’s collaborative environment is a place where academic leaders, elected officials, and business leaders share the same vision of the future, a workforce that exceeds employer needs. The Business Development Board has been the convener of bringing this group together to implement positive change throughout the county in building a topnotch workforce.

ACADEMIC LEADERS COUNCIL

An initiative that puts the Presidents of all local colleges and universities, as well as the Superintendent of the Palm Beach County School District, at one table to talk about curriculum alignment with industry leaders. They meet twice a year with business leaders.

CLAIM YOUR FUTURE SHOWCASE

An annual event in partnership with the School District of Palm Beach County to show high school students the possible career paths available in the county within driving clusters.

SUMMER INTERN SERIES

Over 45 summer interns in Palm Beach County representing 30 different companies participated in this series. The focus included an overview of why it’s a great place for young leaders to live, work, and raise a family.

PALM BEACH COUNTY INTERNSHIP EXPO

An event that connects employers with interns from local colleges and universities. It’s the only county-wide internship program open to all 39 cities and municipalities.

ANNUAL EDUCATION LUNCHEON

An event, in partnership with Education Foundation, to showcase the extraordinary educational assets available in Palm Beach County.

PALM BEACH COUNTY WORKFORCE ANALYSIS STUDY: Workforce is often billed as the new incentive as companies consider opportunities for new investment and job creation. After JP Morgan Chase & Co funded the Workforce Analysis Study, the BDB took the recommended items and implemented them.

Our business and education partnership has resulted in the following: 

Collaborated with the South Florida Region, including Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties, to discuss workforce talent in the technology sector



Facilitated the donation of equipment from Palm Beach Crime Lab to Palm Beach State College to allow students hands-on experience in crime programs



Connected local academic institutes with legislation to implement changes from the workforce study's recommendations.



BDB connected Palm Beach Atlantic University's sports broadcasting program with ESPN West Palm Beach for more hands on experiences



Connected high school students in an aerospace program with Florida Atlantic University College of Engineering to participate in skype calls with astronauts



BDB participated as a judge at several local colleges and universities to promote the industries that are in high demand for workforce enhancements



Partnered with local academic institutions on helping with guest speakers to inspire students and show them the possible careers available in the county



Showcased Palm Beach County’s workforce initiatives at 5th Annual WIAO Expo, a conference showcasing best practices for talent pipelines



Attended the NFS ATE Advanced Manufacturing of Cell and Tissue Products (AMCTP) workforce development initiative meeting for workforce development legislation



Expanded current events to showcase the skills that are taking place in the county. For example, we expanded the education luncheon and engineering dinner to display programs that are here.

PROMOTING THE GLADES REGION Over the past few years, the BDB has facilitated 400 jobs in the Glades Region. Here are two recent wins: Universal Forest Products will create 220 jobs in Belle Glade with a capital investment of $25M. TechGarage will expand to Belle Glade and hire robotics coaches from Palm Beach State College.
