Beach County I’m pleased to report that 2016 – 2017 was an outstanding year for economic development success in Palm Beach County. Upon review of this report, you will learn about several major initiatives the Business Development Board engaged in to grow and diversify Palm Beach County’s economy. In summary, the BDB facilitated 2,217 new and retained jobs, and

$158,459,500 in new capital investment through 21 relocation and expansion announcements. These companies will lease, construct, or

purchase 792,100 square feet of additional space. As you know, in collaboration with city, county, and state partners, the BDB works to leverage the County’s extraordinary assets by promoting the expansion of existing businesses and attracting new ones to the area. Our combined efforts contribute to the prosperity of the County by providing quality jobs for our citizens, fostering economic growth and delivering a vibrant community that is a premier business destination. Company Visitation Program A company visitation program is a vital component for any robust economic development organization. The BDB has a commitment to visit a minimum of 100 local companies within Palm Beach County’s targeted industries to gain a better understanding of current issues and needs while providing connections to appropriate business resources. The BDB’s visitation program provides one-on-one technical assistance and transactional “matchmaking” with financiers, talent developers, procurement specialists, government officials and real estate resources, to name a few.

Behind the Gates Behind the Gates is a multi-year initiative to attract executives who have second homes in Palm Beach County to move their businesses here.

2017 Site Consultant FAM Tour Site location experts from New York, Louisiana, New Jersey, Georgia, Texas, Massachusetts, and Ohio took part in the BDB’s 2017 Palm Beach County Site Consultant Familiarization Program (FAM) on March 29-31. Annually, site selectors meet with public and private sector representatives, experience various Palm Beach County communities, and discover the many business assets here. At the conclusion of each FAM Tour, site consultants provide honest feedback pertaining to Palm Beach County’s business climate. This important feedback provides the BDB with insight and ideas to further strengthen its expansion and relocation efforts.

The BDB is in the Process of Creating a New Non-Profit 501(c)(3) to Conduct Economic Analysis and Research The Business Development Board Research Foundation of Palm Beach County supports or carries out the educational and programmatic activities that enhance the economic competitiveness and prosperity of Palm Beach County, Florida. Such activities include research on and dissemination of economic development information, and fostering the creation or expansion of programs or activities that promote short-term and long-term economic development and job creation in Palm Beach County.

Life Sciences Advisory Council The Life Sciences Advisory Council continues to serve as the oversight group of leaders responsible for the execution of the Palm Beach County Life Sciences Industry Action Plan developed in 2016.

The mission of the council is to:

Serve as the fundamental force of Palm Beach County’s life sciences ecosystem

Strengthen and grow Palm Beach County’s life sciences ecosystem

Support, facilitate and promote the commercialization of promising treatments, therapies and cures that will improve health and patient care

Encourage innovation through investments in companies with good science and strong business models

Create high-paying jobs and drive long-term economic development and prosperity in Palm Beach County

Claim Your Future Showcase February 7, 2017 at the PBC Convention Center

The second annual Claim Your Future Showcase provided over 500 students with the opportunity to meet over 60 companies and learn about countless career opportunities available in Palm Beach County.

Palm Beach County Internship Expo April 13, 2017 at Palm Beach State College The BDB and CareerSource Palm Beach County organized the first Palm Beach County Internship Expo, which connected local talent with nearly 40 local companies with available internships.

Academic Leaders Council Education is the key to solid economic development and a vibrant future economy. Therefore, the BDB created the Academic Leaders Council, a new initiative to strengthen business and education partnerships. The Council is the first of its kind in Palm Beach County and focuses on preserving and expanding the intellectual capital in the County, while ensuring that the curriculum taught in the classroom aligns with the needs of targeted industries that are growing in the County.

Here are just a few: Belcan Engineering and Parametric Solutions established a talent-recruitment relationship with Palm Beach State College (PBSC). Leaders of Belcan and Parametric formed the relationship with PBSC based on testimonials from leaders of Sikorsky and Pratt & Whitney pertaining to the high-quality students they recruit from PBSC. The School District of Palm Beach County established a job placement relationship with Keiser University.

PBAU’s Dean of the Gregory School of Pharmacy and Sancillio & Company are exploring future joint projects.

Hedrick Brothers Construction, CEMEX and SV Microwave established a job placement relationship with Palm Beach Atlantic University.

Walgreens Distribution Center agreed to assist Palm Beach State College with developing curriculum for their new A.S. degree in supply chain and logistics.

New Ad Campaign The BDB has developed a new six month advertisement campaign targeting CEOs in the northeast. The ads showcase Life Sciences, A/A/E, Business/Financial Services, and Manufacturing.

The ads appeared in Quest magazine with a circulation of 84,000 and Greenwich magazine with a circulation over 60,000. Both publications reach high net worth households and provide value-added advantages including editorials and digital components.
