The lifeguard has the authority to suspend the offender for one day. Additional violations will be turned over to the pool committee. Repeat violations may result in revocation of swimming privileges for the remainder of the summer. 21. ONE LONG WHISTLE BLAST MEANS TO CLEAR THE POOL! 22. LIFEGUARDS HAVE THE ULTIMATE AUTHORITY. BABY POOL RULES: 1. Lifeguards are not responsible for the baby pool. 2. Users must be accompanied by parent or guardian eighteen yrs. of age or older and stay within an arm’s reach. 3. Parents or guardians are responsible for their children. 4. All pool rules apply to the baby pool. 5. Swimsuits required. Disposable diapers are not allowed. Little swimmers or plastic diapers are recommended. use the baby pool. I’ve also had several emails and other communications about issues with the lifeguards at the pool, which I addressed with the pool company president. Please feel free to contact me, Kimberly McGaughy, at kbmcgaughy@gmail.com or Pat Parks, the Pool and Parks Committee Chair at wg-parkspools@hotmail.com if you have any problems at the pool. Of special interest to me are issues with hours, not addressing bad behavior at the pool, locking the gates to prevent residents from entering, multiple lifeguards on break at once - and bad behavior incidents at the pool. I’m currently working on plans to have VanMor Properties work with us to encourage prepayment a bit at a time; that way, residents won’t have the burden of one big payment right after Christmas, but Westgate will still have the funds to pay our bills on time (i.e. the beginning of the year). For details, email me at westgateHOA@ yahoo.com Other projects in the works include the following items: 1. Choosing a new landscaping company. 2. Getting two more park areas started: one in between sections 14 and 15 and one on Blue Wahoo. 3. Getting volunteers to be section captains - one for each of the 19 sections in Westgate; these residents will be the contact person for the crime watch committee and for giving out information to their sections. They will be able to organize block captains to help. Email Gary Campbell at garyc1046@yahoo.com or Kimberly McGaughy at kbmcgaughy@gmail.com to sign up. 4. Having resident volunteers power wash and paint the wooden picnic tables trash receptacles and benches at the parks. This easyto-do project will save us approximately $2,600. Email kbmcgaughy@ gmail.com to help. 5. Having resident volunteers decorate the entrances at Christmas; this fun project will save us about $2,400! Email kbmcgaughy@ gmail.com to help.

HIGH-STAKES TESTING

During the April 12th Board meeting, the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Board of Trustees passed a resolution calling for a re-examination of the public school accountability system by the Texas Legislature. The resolution states that standardized, high-stakes testing is undermining our mission to prepare students for competitive careers in the global arena. CFISD superintendent Dr. Mark Henry stated, “The educational system is overly dependent on high-stakes, standardized tests. Educators do support accountability, but at the same time, oppose the current system that does not support preparing all of our students to be productive citizens and leaders in a rapidly changing world. Standardized testing, as currently implemented, hinders progress toward a world-class educational system by driving instructional time.” It is the district’s responsibility to produce graduates who are and technology education programs for those students who are not

Recently, the CFISD Community Leadership Committee (CLC), whose membership includes parents, business leaders and community members, endorsed the Board’s resolution, which calls for the review of the role of high-stakes testing and its impact on schools. According to Stacye Anderson, CLC community chairperson, “The CLC unanimously agreed to support the CFISD Board of Trustees Resolution Concerning High-stakes, Standardized Testing of Texas Public School Students. We are so glad to see our district become the largest district in the state so far to join this movement to implore our legislators to rethink the current approach to assessment of learning. Although we are extremely supportive of holding schools accountable for teaching all Texas children, the current overemphasis on standardized testing impedes learning and

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through July. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

B.F. ADAM GOLF CLASSIC RAISES MORE THAN $108,000

The Cypress-Fairbanks community raised more than $108,000 for student scholarships during the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) B.F. Adam Golf Classic, held May 17th at Blackhorse Golf Club. A total of 296 golfers and 50 volunteers participated in the event - one of the largest non-celebrity tournaments in Houston. “This year’s tournament was another huge success for CFEF. The community once again came out in full support to make the tournament the best yet,” said Marie Holmes, director of the CFEF. Lead underwriters for the tournament were the Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital and the B.F. Adam Family. Platinum sponsors included Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, Daltile placed third. The tournament was named after Bernard Fred Adam, a lifelong Cy-Fair resident and a devoted school board member who served 24 years on the board. Adam Elementary School is named in his honor. The golf tournament has always garnered great support from the community, raising more than $1.7 million for student scholarships since its inception.
