COMMUNITY PROJECTS UPDATES

1. MUD 172 has completed work on the retention pond on Gentle Stone Dr. They have also installed new valves along West Rd. Both of these areas have been cleaned up and put back in good condition. We replaced the Wax Myrtle trees by the retention pond with Crepe Myrtles. We also removed the lower limbs of the trees in this area. 2. The new pool furniture we ordered should be delivered soon. 3. The Board is still working to consolidate the number of signs at each entrance. 4. The light poles around the tennis court and the pool parking lot show signs of corrosion. The Board is soliciting bids to repair and repaint them. We have also received bids to replace the poles with LED lights. We decide what action to take once we receive more information. 5. Your Board is developing a plan to make improvements to the lake path. Several areas need some work and now that the erosion project is complete, we will address this.

6. We are developing a plan to upgrade the landscaping at the monuments. Once we have a cost estimate, we will determine what improvements we can afford this year at the monuments. Your community Board will continue to upgrade the cul-de-sacs. 7. Several trees near some of the monuments on West Road were removed and others trees had the lower limbs removed to get better sun light to the beds.

Election for two new Board members for MUD 172 will occur in late April and early May. The MUD is responsible for our water supply, sewage treatment and storm water drainage. They also are responsible to keep these systems in good condition and they set the water MUD tax rate. Currently four (4) of the five (5) Board members are from Town Lake despite the fact that two-thirds of the MUD 172 residents live in Copper Village. The one representative from Copper Village is retiring and will not run for re-election. Fortunately we have two residents from Copper Village (Cheryl Williamson and Patrick Burke) who are running to fill the two open spots. We can only get them elected if Copper Village residents go to the polls and vote. In the last MUD election only 19 people from Copper Village voted out of approximately 1,300 eligible voters.

Those residents who do not have computer access, may call 713207-2222 during regular business hours to report the outage. Another way to manage neighborhood problems: www.seeclickfix.com.

MISCELLANOUS NOTES

• If you walk your dog, please be respectful by taking a pooperscooper and bag with you. Many homeowners are having a problem with dogs defecating on their lawns or worse still - on their sidewalks. • Maybe you received a violation notice from First Services Management. No need to be upset. It’s possible that the Deed Restriction Team came by your home on a day you have just put your trash can out. We all have a part to abide within the guidelines of the deed restrictions. The community is working hard to keep our neighborhood in good shape. • We have had concerns with too many cars that are parked in the cul-de-sacs. Please use your driveway to park your cars. Reasons are: 1. It’s a courtesy issue. Those in the back of the cul-de-sac have a hard time getting out of a restricted area. So be courteous of other homeowners. 2. It’s a safety issue. If someone in your cul-de-sac had a fire, the fire truck wouldn’t be able to get to it. So think of creative ways to park your vehicle that won’t affect your neighbors. NOTE: If you would like to provide a comment or suggestion for our neighborhood, then email us at: Board@coppervillage.org. HOMEOWNERS: If you would like to add something to the newsletter, please send your announcement before the 10th of the month. The newsletter deadlines are set for one month ahead. Example: September 10th deadline is for the release of the October Newsletter. One month in advance. If you want something added, send it to: alice.smith.realtor@gmail.com.

GARDENING TIPS FOR APRIL

• If you see or know of any violations mentioned above, then call FirstServices Residential to report the address. Your cooperation is appreciated. 713-932-1122.

Mulch - If possible, buy Bagged Mulch. Bagging helps eliminate a great many pests that die from various causes while in the bag. When you buy ‘loose’ mulch that is trucked to your home, you are also buying ants, roaches, termites, etc… Spend a little more on bagged material and save lots of future pest problems. Keep your mulch at least 4” - 6” below the top of your homes exposed foundation edge/ side. This will aid in minimizing pests in your home and allow for quick and accurate termite inspections.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?

We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through April. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

CHIROPRACTIC HEALTH and WELLNESS CENTER 12” - 18” back from your home. Do your best to create a plant free zone that is 18” - 24” wide around your home. The exception is your lawn - it can grow up next to the slab as long as you keep it 4” - 6” below the top of the slab. The most conducive to termite infestation are groundcover plantings, growing high against your homes exterior or (especially) ivy that grows on your walls. Trees - Spray your trees at least twice annually. The spring spray eliminates overwintering pests and fungi while preparing trees to resist the pest onslaught of summer with residual pesticides. The fall spray also kills pests from the summer, prevents most fungi from occurring over the winter and puts your valuable asset off to a healthy winter’s dormancy. Lawn - Spring is the perfect time to do a fungicide treatment to stop brown patch in its tracks along with other fungi. If your lawn is thin and weak in some areas, here are some important fundamentals: a) lawn aeration b) fertilization c) weed control. Most important is proper watering: • Water once per week (unless you get a 1/2” rain or more - then do not water.) • Water heavily (1” - 2”) for total lawn coverage. • In severe drought, water every 5th day. • Water from 5 AM to 7 AM in the morning - NOT AT NIGHT. • A heavy deep weekly watering makes the turf grow deeper, stronger and more drought resistant roots. • Less watering also saves you money!!

GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN JACINTO COUNCIL COPPER CREEK MEADOWS COMMUNITY

Our Girl Scout Cookie sale for 2016 concluded on March 20th. Hope you stocked up, as there will be a long wait before cookie time rolls around again! Many thanks to all our cookie volunteers and to all the troops who participated. We appreciate the support of our friends and neighbors. ! Money earned from the annual Cookie sale funds individual troop activities and supports Council programs and camps. Some of our troops really made their cookie booths special. Members of troop 113035 had a cookie booth on Valentine’s Day and report that they sold 200 boxes in 2 hours. These Girl Scouts really enjoy dressing up. They represented Vietnam at our World Thinking Day event and took part in our cafeteria-size Friendship Circle. The World Thinking Day event drew almost 200 girls (and their leaders). Each troop represented a different country and presented national costumes, music, food and crafts at their booths. They also had some great swaps! Stick on mustaches, crepes and chocolate lollipops that were shaped like the Eiffel tower were featured at the “France” booth. Maracas made from plastic spoons and Easter eggs accompanied Fiesta costumes at the Mexico booth the special collars and headdresses seen at the Egypt booth looked as if they had come from the King Tut exhibit. Beautiful costumes, bright colors and lots of smiling faces made traveling “around the world” as easy as moving around the cafeteria! Our event started off with a flag ceremony and recitation of the Girl Scout Promise and finished up with a Friendship Circle and singing “Make New Friends.” We also collected donations for the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund. Our STRIDERS event brought an afternoon of track and field events, with families coming out to cheer on their daughters. Girls jumped rope, ran in individual and relay races, threw softballs and jumped in standing and running events. We also had a few snacks to keep

8

up our strength for all those activities. Our spring Leader/Daughter event in Wimberley featured “Art in Bloom” crafts and activities, as well as the Talent Show, Dutch oven Cook-off and all our usual fun activities. Horseback riding and rock climbing, kayaking, shopping and eating the results of the Dutch Oven Cook-Off are all part of this exciting weekend. Cadette Troop 16435 reports that they attended the “Be an Upstander” event at the Holocaust Museum. They earned the ‘Science of Happiness” badge and the Interact award towards the “Amaze Journey.” April will be a busy time for our Cadette, Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts, with activities such as Cadette Weekend, Scouts at SAM and Girl Scout Law Day. Some of these older Girl Scouts will also be participating with adults as delegates to the annual Council Meeting. Daisy Troop 113049 reports that they made “blessing bags” to be handed out to those in need. We are getting close to the end of the school Scouting year, with a Bridging Ceremony planned for May, as troops move on to the next Girl Scout level. Summer brings resident, day and twilight camps and the chance to learn new skills, have fun and make new friends. Some of our troops are also looking forward to the Girl Scout Night Sleepover at the Sugarland Skeeters stadium; they will be taking part in a parade around the stadium, enjoying the game and pitching their tents on the field afterwards! Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 (must be in kindergarten) through 18 who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Girls may join at any level and no previous Scouting experience is required. middle and high schools. Home schoolers and private school students are always welcome. Our elementary schools are: Birkes, Fiest, Hairgrove, Horne, Kirk, Lee, Lieder, Lowery, Metcalf, Owens, Tipps, Wilson, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Texas Christian School and Christian Life Center. BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA COPPERHEAD DISTRICT

For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, selfconfidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: • Try new things. • Provide service to others. • Build self-confidence. • Reinforce ethical standards.

Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made. Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam Houston Area Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5 to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). The Children’s Choirs of Cornerstone United Methodist Church will be presenting their musical “Blast Off!” on Sunday, April 24th at the 10:45 AM service. Told with props, set and costumes, “Blast Off!” tells the story about kids who dream of being astronauts, traveling through space and learning of God the Creator’s marvelous creation. With help from various stars, planets, a cantankerous robot and the wise and patient Flight Commander, Mr. Houston, they learn that the God who created the stars and the heavens is the same God who loved the world so much that He sent His son to die for them, wants to have a relationship with them and with Him nothing is impossible.
