DEED RESTRICTION REMINDERS: 1. Any homeowner wishing to make exterior modifications to their property must obtain approval from the Association prior to starting any work. 2. As amended in the Association’s deed restrictions, lawn Maintenance must be done weekly during the growing season.

FENCE INFORMATION The perimeter fences around the community belong to the homeowners. It is the homeowners responsibility to maintain, repair and replace the fence as needed. Perimeter fencing must be put back to its original installation style and may not vary to other styles.

DEED RESTRICTIONS REMINDERS Garage Sales: Two garage sales a year is the limit under Texas Law. The Limited Sales, Excise and Use Tax Act says that people who are not operating a business are permitted to have no more than two sales of their goods each year. If you exceed this amount, you will be treated as operating a business and you’ll need to obtain a sales tax permit from the state. A quick Internet search reveals that a number of Texas cities also have ordinances limiting garage sales and some don’t allow them at all. Houston has no such ordinance, however, according to the city’s website. Instead, the city relies on the state law. Businesses are not allowed in the community.

Trash Can Containers: Trash cans are to be out of site and remain out of view at all times, it takes away from property values.

Street Curbs: Curbs are homeowners’ responsibility to keep clean and free of debris, (i.e. leaves and trash). Keeping these clean will ensure less street flooding, trash being forced down and clogging sewer drains.

Oil Stains: If you’re having difficulties getting the oil and grease stains out from your driveway, there are a few mixtures you can buy at an auto part store that is less than $10. These mixtures will help get the oil and grease stains in your driveway.

Streetlights: HOA Assessments pay for streetlights, please report streetlight outages to: www.centerpointenergy.com/services/electricity/ residential/reportastreetlightoutage, you will need the six digit streetlight pole number and a nearby address when filing out the on line report.

GARDENING TIPS FOR NOVEMBER

• Brown patch will continue to plague St. Augustine lawns as nights get cooler and humidity and rain continue. Discolored circles will appear in low areas almost overnight. Apply a fungicide recommended for brown patch according to label directions. Avoid walking through brown-patched turf. It spreads easily from the bottom of your shoes.

If brown patch appears in the same lawn areas every year, add an inch or two of sandy topsoil to eliminate those low spots.

• Fertilize St. Augustine turf with a winterizing formula to promote root growth over the winter months. Lower your lawn mover blades now and mow on a schedule that cuts no more than one-third of the grass blade away.

• As chrysanthemums and other perennials finish blooming, cut flowering stalks to the ground to permit all strength to be used in making root growth.

• Feed roses lightly, but avoid nitrogen fertilizers. Do not prune now.

Keep up spraying program and water deeply.

• Remove dead foliage and plant debris to help eradicate insects and disease organisms. Thin out and transfer volunteer seedlings. Beds made now will benefit by weathering before being planted. If soil is heavy, dig six inches deep, leave rough, cover with gymsum and strawy manure, water and allow to mellow.

• Bananas are more likely to bear fruit if the trunk does not die back in winter. Cut banana stalks back to six feet, wrap with newspaper and burlap.

November 11th - How to Recruit and Retain Volunteers, 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, Berry Center. This workshop will offer you strategic ways to recruit parent and community volunteers, with special emphasis on the “hard to reach” volunteers. Techniques and tips will be presented to help you retain your volunteers and motivate them to stay and bring their friends.

Offering Upward Basketball and Cheerleading 2013-14 Bear Creek Baptist Church is offering Upward Basketball and Cheerleading for K-8th Grade. Cost is $70 for Basketball and for Cheerleading. This year the cost does not include the basketball shorts or the cheer mock turtleneck. These can be purchased for an additional $15 each. They will have one hour of practices a week and on Saturdays they will have a game for one hour. Every practice and game takes place on our Campus. They will learn great new skills from encouraging coaches. Registration began October 15th. Each child needs to attend one evaluation session. Our first Evaluations will be Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, November 4th, 5th and 7th, between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM in our gym on the North side of our church. The program, which was recently recognized at the White House in Washington, DC, allows veterans to meet during a “Closed Retreat” that starts on Friday afternoon and ends on Sunday afternoon.

“Proceeds from this tournament will benefit the program which is offered at no cost to veterans,” says Sam Luna, founder of Vets Journey Home Texas Inc.

The program benefits veterans with post-traumatic stress (PTS) and mild Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) but any veteran that applies is accepted. Recently after receiving the Medal of Honor, Ty Carter, called on Americans to “take the time to learn about the invisible wounds.
