Microsoft AI for Good Schools
Year 10 students Snigdha Arora, Mia Pistofian and Ella Rowley completed a group project for the Microsoft AI (Artificial Intelligence) For Good Challenge as part of the Year 10 elective Innovation Accelerator. Their idea was to create an ‘InfoRobo’ artificial intelligence solution to deliver unbiased information about political issues and candidates to disadvantaged members of the community. Their video and written presentation was selected by judges from Microsoft from thousands of entries across Victoria as a finalist. They succeeded in receiving a 4th place overall in the Years 10-12 section of the competition.

Working with Melbourne City Mission
In 2020, MCM launched its first podcast series, Their Journey Home, putting a spotlight on the challenges three of the most over-represented communities face in Victoria’s youth homelessness system. Korowa students, Maya Gregory, Madhumitha Mallichetty, Zara Shaikh, Simrah Shaikh and Caroline Filiex were selected to be members of Frontyard’s Youth Action Group and to participate in this incredible project. Together they produced three episodes, each focusing on different groups and communities affected by youth homelessness – people who identify as LGBTIQ+, First Nations Australians, and young people who have experienced family violence. These students are continuing to work with MCM on a Youth Conference in 2021.
Robyn Price Art Acquisition Award
The winner of the 2020 Robyn Price Art Acquisition Award was Year 12 student, Jude Hill. The Korovian Club awards the prize annually. Jude’s work Untitled was a mixed media installation (linocut and textiles) and is an exploration of masculinity, but is also a call to value the feminine art traditions and an embracement of androgyny. Noted artist, Lisa Roet, who opened the VCE Art Exhibition in November last year, selected the piece. Jude’s work now joins the School’s collection.
