1997 -Thesis N.T.U.A. Churches complex in West Kaisariani Monastery Area

St. Marcos, Kaisariani Area: Kaisariani, Hymettus Type: Byzantine / PostByzantine Complex th th Date: 9 -18 century th

The Christian ruins of four periods (9 century th Basilica, 11 century stavroid, the catholic church of Hagios Markos, built during the period of the Frankish rule and a small Turkish rule period church, in the southwest of the Katholikon of Kaisariani Monastery. Its position offers a view till Saronikos, which has also been mentioned in Michael Choniates’ epistles and drawn at a Barsky’s topology. The first Christian center of the Monastery was founded in this exact position known as the “Cemetery of the Holy Fathers”. The area is called Frangomonastiro after this catholic church. In the 11th century the monastic center was transferred to its present safer position with the foundation of the Katholikon of Kaisariani Monastery.

3-storey House in Paroikia , Paros island Area: Kyclades Type: laic (folk) Date: varies The first level of the house has the popular characteristics of housing th spread all over th Paros island. About early 19 century, two more storeys were added on top of it, repeating the neoclassical models of the era, deriving from Syros as many material, the capital at this time. That was the reason that in later times, earthquakes gave plenty and severe damages to the building. The building “fell out to its knees by the horizontal pushing forces loosing verticality and south wall was detached from the main body of the stone walls. These facts were made clear after making detailed diagrams of the cracking system and precise dimensioning plans of the building. On this proposal was examined the option to reinforce the building by light steel structures.

Sotiris Voyadjis & Associated Architects- Greatest Lavra Monastery, Mt Athos

North-West wing of Greatest Lavra Monastery Area: Mt. Athos Type: Romaic, Byzantine & Post Byzantine phases. th th Date: 4 – 19 century The Monastery of Great Lavra (Greek: Μονή Μεγίστης Λαύρας) is the first monastery built on Mount Athos. It is located on the southeastern foot of the Mount at an elevation of 160 metres. The founding of the monastery in AD 963 by Athanasius the Athonite marks the beginning of the organized monastic life at Mount Athos. At the location of the monastery, there was one of the ancient cities of the Athos peninsula, perhaps Akrothooi, from which the sarcophagi of the monastery that are in the oil storage house come. The history of the monastery is the most complete compared to the history of the other monasteries, because its historical archives were preserved almost intact. It is possible that the study of these archives may contribute to the completion of the knowledge of the history of other monasteries, whose archives were partially or completely lost.

2000-

Panagia Ekatontapyliani (also known as the Church of 100 Doors) is a historic Byzantine church complex in Parikia town, on the island of Paros in Greece. The church complex contains a main chapel surrounded by two more chapels and a baptistery with a cruciform font. The origin of the church's name is obscure, as it does not have one hundred doors, or gates. One theory suggests that it is a corruption of the name "Katapoliani", i.e. "the Downtown Church", as it lies by the sea in the lower part of the town of Parikia. In 1959, professor and scholar Anastassios Orlandos started the restoration of the church to bring it back to its Justinian form. Never the less traditional elements that had covered the Byzantine Monument were detached from it. (see for instance campaniles) that were restored in new faรงade of the complex.

2000-

In the historic territory of Plaka in the center of Athens, around Acropolis, there may be found some empty plots from insignificant demolitions of old buildings or empty plots. Exploring the potentials of filling an urban spatial gap, but in the same time keep in mind the sensitive equilibrium arising by the necessity of intervention, retaining historical urban character, following town’s building codes and also theoretical guidelines of international charts, in a artistic way.

MINISTRY OF CULTURE TOPOGRAPHICAL SURVEY OF St. AIMILIANOS - KOROPI

St. Aimilianos is an excavated archeological site in Koropi. Revealing an ancient workshop and churches constructed on top of it in the later Christian era. It was a habit that Christians used to reorder ancient materials for their buildings to construct their new temples.

St. Dimitrios of Pourko is a rare paradigm of Christian temple in Greece and only one more like this it is said that does exist with different morphological characteristics.
