Breakfast for Veterans at BVT United States military veterans of Blackstone Valley Tech were recently treated to a hearty breakfast prepared by the BVT Friends of Rachel Club and Culinary Arts program. The breakfast event was held for the first time last year as a way to thank the veterans for their service and give them the chance to bond over their mutual experience. The Friends of Rachel Club plans on making the Veterans Day breakfast an annual tradition at Valley Tech. This year's breakfast was prepared and served by Culinary Arts juniors and members of the Friends of Rachel Club (back row, left to right) Lauren Mahoney of Sutton, Britney Hjort of Millbury, and Krista Decarlo of Milford. The Friends of Rachel Club was inspired by a Rachel’s Challenge program presentation made at BVT during the 2010-11 school year. The program is named after Rachel Scott, who was the first person killed during the horrific massacre at Columbine High School in 1999. Her acts of kindness and compassion coupled with the contents of her personal diaries have become the foundation for the life-changing program. The Friends of Rachel Club formed as a means for BVT students to perpetuate the program’s positive message by practicing random acts of kindness. Movie Night teaches a more inclusive world Alternatives and the Northbridge Public Schools/Northbridge Special Education Parent Advisory Council will be sponsoring a movie night featuring The Santa Clause with Tim Allen. The movie will take place on Friday, December 5th, at Alternatives’ GB & Lexi Singh Performance Center, Whitin Mill, 60 Douglas Road, in Whitinsville. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with the movie beginning at 6:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public and there will be refreshments for sale as well as raffles and door prizes. This event is held each year to celebrate National Inclusive Schools Week that is celebrated this year on December 1st through 5th and takes place each year on the first week of December. Individuals from our Friends/Teens Night Out program through the Northbridge Public Schools and individuals served by Alternatives come together each year to celebrate this week joining community and the schools in our town working together for a more inclusive world.
