Society Blackstone Valley Women’s Club host speaker

Open Mic Night & Coffee House return to EN Jenckes Store

John DeRonck from Advocates in Framingham made a presentation to the members of the Blackstone Valley Women’s Club recently. Advocates is a Human Services Agency which employs 1,000 people and serves the area from Boston to just west of Worcester. They work with Mental Health outpatient services as well as residential services for Adults with developmental disabilities. They have 300 clients in the residential program and on an outpatient basis they serve people from 3 years to the elderly. In addition to providing Autism services, substance abuse counseling, and help with depressive disorders, they also help provide support and structure for people with chronic mental illness in residential homes. Advocates is community based with flexible services. They are funded through state funds as well as insurance. Advocates is working with a program called Collaborative Pathways which engages young people and families very early in their psychiatric experience using open dialog treatment to reduce chronicity. from Advocates, contact Constance Dwyer of Sutton, Founder and former President of BVWC (2010-2014) who also founded NAMI, a support group in Uxbridge, which she led from 2000 to 2005, for families who have loved ones with mental illness. NAMI still meets in Uxbridge at the Nazarene Church.
