Manufacturing academy culmination
Congratulations Class of 2012!
The inaugural Manufacturing Academy concluded on May 22nd with a mini-job fair for participating students. Three Blackstone Valley manufacturing professionals conducted interviews for this out-of school program offered to interested High School juniors and seniors. The program, 15 sessions of employability and financial literacy workshops, lab classes in mold-making and Computer Aided Design, and site visits to area manufacturers, enabled students an opportunity to consider their careers in sales, management, engineering, production and more in this high demand field. Attracting students who like to tinker, build, and create, participants particularly enjoyed visiting the wide variety of Blackstone Valley manufacturers: Lampin Corporation-Uxbridge, TEMP Flex-Grafton, IPG-Oxford, Washington Mills-Grafton, Caliper-Hopkinton, and others. Employers who participated in the job fair were Lampin Corporation, Classic Envelope-Douglas and Mayfield Plastics-Sutton. The next class for the Manufacturing Academy will be from October-April, two afternoons per month from 3-5:50 throughout the Blackstone Valley. For information, contact Julie Salmon at jsalmon@blackstonevalley.org. This is the third in a series of Young Professional programs for Blackstone Valley Youth and is funded in part by grants from private foundations, private and corporate donations, and financial support from school districts.
