This is my last newsletter message to all of you. The current officer board for 2013-2014 are officially retired officers after the Installation Banquet last Wednesday. Your new incoming board officers will take over for the 20142015 school year after DCON is over. Get excited because DCON is this Friday! First off, the big event you have all been waiting for…DCON 2014! This Wednesday, all DCON attendees must come to the last meeting of our 2013-2014 Key Club year. We will be going over the Convention Overview and Convention Rules papers, transportation, the packing list, and your rooming assignments. We will also hand out the reminding DCON T-Shirts, pom-pom, bam-bam, and D32 pins on Wednesday, so please be there or be square. Secondly, thank you to all that came to the Installation Banquet last Wednesday. It was truly an emotional night for all, but it will definitely be a memory we will all remember. Stay tuned for Installation Banquet Pictures coming up soon. For those that want to have a copy of the Installation Banquet video, just come see me with a laptop in hand and I’ll copy the file from my thumb drive (USB). Thirdly, I want to truly express how much I appreciated on how this year came out to be for Kent-Meridian Key Club. For the four years I have been in this club, each and every year is dearly memorable. I’ll missed the feeling of doing community service with everyone in this club. No matter what, even if the seniors and I graduate two months from now, the old saying goes, “Once a Key Clubber, always a Key Clubber. I’m looking forward for the next officer group to lead this amazing club and take it to new heights that only the strong can succeed. Make me proud Kent-Meridian Key Clubbers. I will always love everyone with all my heart. On a final note, I want to truly thank my advisors, John Bruns and Kendrick Glover for being there for all of us. Rarely you heard this, but you guys are the coolest adults to hang and I’ll miss working together with both of you guys! I want to give a shoutout to my executive board. Raphael Enrico, thank you for having my back as my Vice President and sticking by me when things got rough. Junelle Palisoc, thank you for being my Secretary and dealing with me when we needed to get our Key Club tasks done by the deadlines. Also, being always being that energetic girl who I used to categorize you as strange. Emily Ly, thank you for being my treasurer and making sure we don’t get bankrupt. I know you’ll do well once your president term starts. Marquel Gapuz, thank you for being my Editor. I’ll miss the days where we work during the night on the agenda for Key Club and your photo-taking skills that reflects off what KM Key Club is all about. Vidaul Milton-Dent, thank you for being my Public Relation. You always knew how to spark the crowd with your voice and unique tenacious personality. I’ll miss you man. Lastly, thank you all of the members that volunteered throughout the whole year and past years in Key Club. I’m really glad I got to serve you guys at the best of my ability. You guys are number one in my bingo book! LOL. Again, it’s been a pleasure, so I’m not saying any goodbyes because it makes me sad and all. I’ll just leave my final message as a question… “HEY KEY CLUBBERS!!!! HOW DO YOU FEEL?!!!” In Love and Service, Yen Le

KEY CLUB 101

WHAT IS KEY CLUB?

Motto: Caring – Our Way of Life Pledge: I pledge, on my honor, to uphold the Objects of Key Club International; to build my home, school and community; to serve my nation and God; and combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions.

Key Club International is sponsored by Kiwanis International and is the largest service program for high school students. It is a student-led organization that teaches High School students to perform acts of service in their communities and will also learn leadership skills

Objects •To develop initiative and leadership. •To provide experience in living and working together. •To serve the school and community. •To cooperate with the school principal. •To prepare for useful citizenship. •To accept and promote the following ideals: •To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life. •To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships. •To promote the adoption and application of higher standards in scholarship, sportsmanship and social contacts. •To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship. •To provide a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render unselfish service and to build better communities. •To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which makes possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism and good will.

PNW District Project: ELIMINATE What is the ELIMINATE Project? The ELIMINATE Project is a joint project with Kiwanis and UNICEF to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT).

What is MNT? In 26 countries, MNT can bring nightmares to families. MNT kills one baby every nine minutes. This tetanus can also kill mothers. MNT is caused when tetanus spores come into contact with open cuts during childbirth, striking the ones who are less fortunate than us.

Do Your Part MNT is highly preventable. Three doses alone cost a mere $1.80. This will be used to immunize mothers, who will then pass it on to their offspring. It will take 110 million dollars for MNT to be eliminated off the face of the planet. It will also take the hard work of Kiwanis and UNICEF for MNT to be completely gone. Educate yourself and help ELIMINATE MNT.

Editor’s Farewell Well, this is my last newsletter message for you all. I had to give yen his own page because of all he had to say. It’s been a great term with all of you guys. I’m going to miss making these newsletters! I’m proud to say that I was the first editor in KM Key Club to ever make a newsletter, well to my knowledge. Hope you guys enjoyed all my newsletters and saw my growth as an editor. I’ve been editor since my sophomore year and it’s hard to let this position go. I’m going to miss taking pictures. I’m going to miss making powerpoints. I’m going to miss spreading news about key club. But all good things come to an end. It was truly an awesome experience to be your guys’ editor for 3 years…. I just can’t seem to let it go. But I have to. I leave the editor position in great hands and I can’t see anybody else take over. Make me proud Kelsey! You are now the voice of the club. Be a better editor than I ever was. Good Luck, the newsletter is now yours.
