Book Week Scotland 2022 runs from Monday 14 to Sunday 20 November

Book Week Scotland 2022

KLEO (Kinross-shire Local Events Organisation) is a Book Week Scotland 2022 partner and together with Loch Leven Community Library we hope to bring an exciting programme of Scottish authors.

Stuart MacBride

Thursday 17 November | 7.30pm

Loch Leven Community Library

Tickets £5

Stuart MacBride writes crime novels. You like to read crime novels (because you’re a very clever and sexy person). So why not come along and hear Stuart talk about the kind of crime novels he writes – like his latest book: No Less The Devil? Warning: this talk will contain tangents, a very rude song, and some rambling about cats.

James Oswald

Friday 18 November | 7.30pm

Loch Leven Community Library Tickets £5

How could the discovery of a 700 year old skeleton, dumped in a deep pit underneath the site of the South Leith Kirkyard possibly be of interest to an Edinburgh detective in 2022? Join James Oswald as he talks about the inspiration for his bestselling Inspector McLean novels, how he goes about crafting his novels, and what, if any, help he gets from his Highland cows.

4

Lisa Ballantyne

Tuesday 15 November | 7.30pm

Loch Leven Community Library

Tickets £5

Lisa Ballantyne is the internationally bestselling author of five novels. Her debut, The Guilty One, was nominated for the Edgar Allan Poe Award and translated into thirty languages. It was also a Richard and Judy favourite. Her new novel, The Innocent One is the sequel to her debut. Lisa will speak about shining a light on dark corners in her writing, where she often chooses difficult subject matter. She will speak about her common themes of nature and nurture, memory and how the past influences the present.

Andrew Greig

Sunday 20 November | 1.30pm

Loch Leven Community Library

Tickets £5

Andrew Greig will read from and talk about his historical novel Rose Nicolson, an adventure set in the early days of the Scottish Reformation, in St Andrews, Edinburgh, and the reivers of the Scottish Borders. It is a time of great upheaval, uncertainty and political shenanigans, in a divided society with a plummeting economy. The central characters are young and historically based, and surprisingly witty, sardonic and even light-hearted as they strive to survive, get ahead, fall in love. They are living in their present, which happens to be the period of the past that largely formed the Scottish culture and psyche.

However, anyone who enjoys company and a good sing is welcome. We aim to encourage a feel good factor for everyone and the focus is on enjoyment. Songs can range from well known Scottish tunes to favourites from the 1940’s-1970’s and songs from the shows. We begin with a cup of tea at 2.30 then begin singing at 3pm. There are no song sheets – words are all projected on a screen.

A fast-paced, really fun, informal event with all the favourites including Address To The Haggis, Toast To Lassies etc and so much more. There’ll be a lovely 2 course meal, highland dancing and wee bit of light-hearted poetry. Fantastic musical performances will come from a range of professional and amateur talent. There’ll even be a bit of audience participation; if you got a talent, let’s hear it! We’ll finish off the night with some high-energy ‘Cross-Country’ Dancing and great Scottish Dance Floor Belters.

Light Up the Night

Light up the darkness this winter!

Over the last weekend in November, we’re again inviting everyone to decorate a street-facing window of your home or business, spreading a wave of welcoming light across our community.

As the cold nights draw in you’ll be able to take an evening walk and enjoy the uplifting, colourful artwork and messages of hope shared by your neighbours. There’s no set theme this year, but we hope Light Up the Night will be a chance to spread some joy, warmth and cheer and show our care and support for each other during what will be a hard winter for many.

To join in with this new local ‘tradition’, simply decorate a window or windows in any way you want in time for Fri 25 Nov, and keep the lights on during the evenings of the event weekend. You could put together a detailed scene or festive light display, or use tissue paper and card to create your own stained-glass artwork - be as creative, imaginative and inventive as you like! Anything goes, as long as it’s bright and family-friendly.

Register your window to the Light Up Google map so that others can find and enjoy it, by messaging the Facebook page Light Up the Night Kinross-shire: @LightUpKinrossshire or emailing Esther estherjkent@hotmail.com.

Keep an eye on the Facebook group and KLEO website for updates on Light Up the Night workshops and activities, as well as decorating ideas. What will you share?!
