KLEO (Kinross-shire Local Events Organisation) is a Book Week Scotland 2023 partner and together with Loch Leven Community Library we hope to bring an exciting programme of events.

Bernard MacLaverty

One of Ireland’s premier writers, Belfast man Bernard MacLaverty now lives in Glasgow. He has published five novels, including Grace Notes (shortlisted for the Booker prize and awarded the Saltire Society Scottish Book of the year 1997). His first novel Cal became a major film starring Helen Mirren. He has also published six collections of short stories. His latest book is Blank Pages and Other Stories.

He is a member of Aosdana, an organisation that aims to “honour artists whose work has made an outstanding contribution to the arts in Ireland”.

Join storyteller Sheila Kinninmonth from Hamespun Tales in Katie Cookie’s Kitchen for some tasty story adventures. Meet some hungry sea creatures, cake loving fairies, a greedy Broonie and a fainthearted giant. There will be lots of opportunity to join in, have a laugh and help the story along. Then take home the recipe cards to cook up the stories at home. For children aged 5 to 8 approximately.

Ten Minute Tales

Thursday 16 November | 7.30pm

Up to eight local people will each present a ten minute story, in prose or verse, recalling a specific event, adventure or memory from their childhood. If you are interested in taking part please send an email to info@kleo.org.uk so that we can confirm numbers. We will then send you some more specific guidelines for writing your piece and you have until 16 November to complete it.

Two Orchestras Concert

A joint concert with local Kacophony Orchestra led by Dougie Flower and the Tullis Russell Community Band led by Denise Ward.

This promises to be a fun evening with a great variety of music. You will surely recognise some tunes!

Interested in joining the Kacophony Orchestra? All abilities welcome but you do need to be able to read music. Wednesday evening from 7.15pm to 9.15pm at Loch Leven Community Campus. Fee is £5 a session. For more info please email info@kleo.org.uk

This concert showcases the variety of choirs and singing groups to be found in our local area. Choirs participating this year will include, amongst others, Leven Voices, Kinross Parish Church Choir and the Cantie Choir. Let's SING!

PlaidSong in concert “Enlist Bonnie Laddie”

This informal singing group meets on the second Sunday of every month in Kinross Parish Church. It is designed primarily for people living with dementia and their carers, but anyone who enjoys company and a good sing is very welcome. We aim to encourage a feel-good factor and the emphasis is on enjoyment. We begin with a cup of tea and chat at 2.30pm with singing from 3 - 4pm. Song lyrics are projected on to a big screen for ease of reading.

Festive Market at the Market Park

Saturday 25 November 10am-3pm

Come along to the Market Park (opposite the Green Hotel) and enjoy a bustling festive atmosphere and fit in some Christmas shopping while enjoying some delicious hot food and mulled wine! There will be a great variety of stalls with local produce from producers from the Kinross Farmers’ Market and numerous stalls from crafts people, local organisations and businesses. Great festive entertainment on the HAKI stage with carol singing, dancing and live music!

The Big Burns Bash

KLEO is delighted to bring back the highly successful ‘Big Burns Bash’ as part of this year’s Winter Festival. Like last year it will be a special celebration of the life and works of Robert Burns and of the talent within our very own local community.

A fast-paced, really fun, informal event with all the favourites including Address To The Haggis, Toast To Lassies etc and so much more. There’ll be a lovely 2 course meal, highland dancing and wee bit of lighthearted poetry. Fantastic musical performances will come from a range of professional and amateur talent.
