Bilsdale Queen's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations on Sun 3 June held at Chopgate was a lovely afternoon despite the cold but at least the rain held off. The afternoon and evening was well attended, the childrens sports were a lot of fun and there was a large number of adults joined in the quoits. The women beat the men in the Tug of War, we won't say anymore about that !!! Bilsdale Silver Band played on into the afternoon after playing for the service. The collection at the service was split between St John's church, St Hilda's church and Chopgate Chapel Les Featherstone planted an oak tree to mark the occasion.

The pooled tea was lovely, Gladys Garbutt cut the Jubilee cake which was beautifully iced by Helen Makin, followed by an evening disco which was a lot of fun. There was also a group photograph which will be displayed in the village hall in the near future.

16 and under children in Bilsdale all received Jubilee mugs, there was free ice cream, crisps and sweets. The blue bubble gum, vanilla and strawberry ice cream went down very well not with just the children but the adults seemed to enjoy it too.

Thank you to everyone who came and supported the event, to everyone who baked for a scrumptious tea and to all those who helped in anyway. Thank you.

The fancy dress competition results were not in the D and S Times which took place at the Jubilee celebrations. A special mention to the winners, Amelia Bullock as Queen of Hearts and Molly Enderwick (Nancy Cook's great grand daughter) as a cat. The judges said "what a difficult job choosing just two from such an eager line up of beautiful children".

Queens Birthday Honours Carol McGee has been awarded the British Empire Medal(BEM) for services to Bilsdale.

Well done from all her family.
