Men's Annual Coffee Morning Saturday 8th Feb. Church Hall from 10.00am. Back by popular demand! The men of this parish would like to invite everyone to coffee & scones . There will also be a tombola and cake stall. Please come and support us. Proceeds to Church Funds.

Lantern Parade & Carols Round the Tree.

Despite the weather more people than ever came out to parade & join together for carols in the village hall. 25 new lanterns were made but many more were brought in to be repaired and have a new candle. Wind damage will necessitate many more repairs next year! Singing Carols to Bilsdale Band (cost £100) in the hall instead of on the Green gave us many benefits. It was an indication of the popularity of the event that the hall was stuffed nearly to capacity. In the light we could read the carol sheets & singing was robust! Mulled wine & mince pies (cost £63) were provided by the 'Entertainment Fund' , although generous donations (£122.50) reduced the shortfall to £40.50. Thanks to all who made the event so successful.

Youth work project celebrates 10th Anniversary, and still going strong!

A local project is celebrating 10 years of Christian youth work at Stokesley School. A full- and a part-time Christian youth worker are funded by many local churches and individuals in the area. The project is linked to the UK-wide organisation Youth for Christ, which also organises visits by young people from the USA, who come for up to a year to work on a voluntary basis alongside the regular staff. The team provides input into RE lessons and assemblies at the school, runs lunchtime clubs, provides personal mentoring, and runs a "Cafe Church" event at Costa, Stokesley once a month. Outside of school, the team also works with several church youth groups in the area. The chair of the committee which oversees the project, Stuart Johnson, commented: "We are excited to be celebrating 10 years of this very important work, which is an excellent partnership between the project staff, gap year volunteers, local churches, and the school staff. We have seen so many young people growing in faith as a result of the project, and look forward to much more! We are very grateful to our generous supporters who make this work possible." As a celebration of the anniversary the project has organised a Ceilidh, which will be held on Saturday 1st March at St Joseph's Church Hall, Stokesley, with local band The Cleveland Bays. All are invited - tickets are available from Stuart Johnson (710184) or Chris Stokeld (723573), priced £7 single / £20 family (includes a pie and pea supper). Come along and find out more about the project, and shake off the winter blues!

Kirkby & Gt. Broughton School It’s been a great start to 2014 at Kirkby and Great Broughton School. Our children have returned to school full of enthusiasm and are enjoying learning through their new topics which include Fairytale Fun, Light and Dark and The Environment. Year 6 children are taking part in ‘Bikeability’ sessions this half term. These are a fun way to increase skills and develop cycling confidence and proficiency. The children are provided with a book to study and learn about road safety. They are then tested on their knowledge before being taken out onto the roads around school to put their knowledge into practice. Mrs Atkinson, our school cook, prepared a delicious Chinese New Year Lunch to celebrate the Year of the Horse. The menu for the day was sweet and sour chicken and vegetable stir fry, served with rice and noodles & a fortune cookie for each child. We are also looking forward to welcoming our Year 3 mums for lunch this month which I am sure will be very popular. PTA events Following on from a highly successful Autumn term with the Firework Extravaganza and the Holly Fayre, the PTA are busily organising events for this term. A quiz night is planned for Sat 8th, St Augustine’s Church Hall & a Beetle Drive for the children on Fri 14th March. Not only are the events very enjoyable & a lovely way for our school community to meet together, they also raise an amazing amount of money for the school which is greatly appreciated by all the staff and February in St A reminder that if you want to keep in touch with what's happening in school our website address is www.kirkbyandgreatbroughtonschool.ik.org
