CO-CURRICULAR CLUBS FAQS Bookings

Clubs

How do I register for activities?

All co-curricular clubs are booked through SOCS.

What is M:Tech?

M:Tech is music theory combined with the latest creative composition technologies to allow children to explore their very own musical ideas alongside engaging multimedia projects.

Do I need to register with SOCS and external providers?

Yes. SOCS should be used to register for clubs and provides information on external registration and payment. Providers use this register as the master register. You must have a place on SOCS to attend a club.

Do you operate wait lists?

We don’t operate wait lists, however, for small group clubs we offer first priority booking for children who haven’t taken part in the activity during the previous term. The club is then opened up to all children after this advance booking period.

What is Typeright?

Typeright is a touch typing course. Pupils are tutored as they follow an on-screen interactive software programme before progressing to exercises that will facilitate them being able to use a computer efficiently with quick, accurate typing.

What is Jam Coding?

Coding involves learning how to programme computers and understanding computing language. In the SummerTerm 2022 coding will focus on robotics and Minecraft challenges.

Can I join a club half way through the term?

Yes, if there is availability you can join a club after the club has started. Please contact the main office so that your final bill can be adjusted.

Is equipment provided for clubs?

Equipment is provided for clubs such as fencing and chess. Children need to bring their own shin pads for football.

Can I make changes to my bookings?

Parents/carers can make changes to bookings directly on SOCS until the bookings window closes. After this time please contact the main office to discuss changes.

Ensemble Clubs The JD ensemble is for boys who take individual music lessons on orchestral instruments such as cello, violin and guitar – not piano. Please contact Mrs Birchall to find out about being added to the register. The SD ensemble is for instrumentalists in Years 4 – 8. Boys must be a minimum Grade 1.

Fees How are clubs paid for?

The fee is added to your termly bill for school organised clubs. For external run clubs, you must register and pay the external provider directly.

Why do some clubs have a fee whilst others are free of charge?

Clubs are delivered by a combination of school staff and external providers. A fee is normally attached to a club when the club is run by an external provider.

Collection Where do I collect my child from at the end of clubs?

Collection varies by club so please check SOCS information carefully.

A number of JD clubs take place in the SD such as fencing and football. Parents should collect JD boys from the Senior Department for these clubs. Collection for Outdoors Club is from the gate on Cambrian Road.

Collection for all SD clubs except the Homework Club, is on the SD playground. Access is via the left hand side access gate from the car park.

WRAPAROUND CARE As well as a varied co-curricular programme, King’s House offers extensive wraparound care provision for children in the Junior and Senior Departments. unior Department Early Birds runs from 8.00 8.30am in the JD. After School Care (ASC) runs for Reception – Year 3 until 5.30pm in the Junior Department, and Homework Club in the Senior Department until 5.15pm.

SOCS

We also operate a system which allows brothers to remain in After School Care free of charge until their older brother’s normal finish time (excluding the late finish for Senior Department Games afternoons). If your son has an older sibling in Years 5 – 8 ASC is free of charge until 4.00pm. You will be charged after 4.00pm.

If your son has an older sibling in Years 2 – 4 ASC is free of charge until 3.30pm. You will be charged after 3.30pm.

How do I make a booking?

All bookings should be made through SOCS. I have made a booking for my son but we don’t use the booking, will I still be charged?

Only children confirmed as having attended wraparound care will be charged.

If I’m not charged for bookings I don’t attend, why do I need to register?

Registration helps King’s House with planning and staffing for clubs.

King’s House use SOCS (School Online Communication System) to manage fixtures, clubs, wraparound care and the school calendar.

The system is split into three separate ‘modules’, which sync together to give parents and the school a comprehensive overview of what the school and individual pupil’s term will look like.

• Sport • Co-Curricular • Calendar The sports portal is a dedicated site which shows all fixtures, team sheets and any other relevant information for sports fixtures. This is managed by the PE department.

The co-curricular module enables parents to book clubs and wraparound care and staff to check which activities pupils are booked into, and to take registers for class management and billing.

The calendar displays information for all school events, as well as fixtures, co-curricular clubs and wraparound care for parents.

Who manages ASC and Homework Club?

All wraparound care is managed by King’s House School teachers and support staff.

Where do I collect my child from Homework Club or After School Care?

Junior department parents should ring the collection blue doorbell in the first instance.
