The

Antagonist “Everyone Needs a Peninnah”

This is the story of Hannah who was barren and very bitter. She was with her husband Elkanah, who gave her a double portion to take to worship. She lived with Elkanah’s other wife Peninnah, who was very fruitful (fertile) in having kids. The question Elkanah would ask Hanna as she was given her double

a person who actively opposes or is hostile to someone or something

potion was, “why am I not enough? What is it that you need Hannah”? He asked, but Elkanah couldn’t fulfill the emptiness. In the beginning of this story she didn’t look to God, she tried to handle it on her own. Peninnah would rub in the fact that she couldn’t have children but what we find is that Peninnah was jealous of Elkanah and Hanna’s relation-

ship. To bring it up to today’s time, people become jealous of us not knowing we are barren. This doesn’t just refer to children. You can be barren in your dreams, visions, and the gifting that God has given you, they just can’t see it. Your antagonist is there to bless you! Watch the full length video at: www.kdcmag.com

Change the Parent, Change the Child What’s the number one question parents ask in your coaching session? One of the biggest errors is rewarding bad behavior. The second is, the parent has lost control of the child when they are very young. Now that they have gotten bigger, they call me in to try to control them. The first question I ask is, “How long has he/she been behaving like this”? Often this behavior www.myshieldandbuckler.com

was going on when they were young. It’s always easier to get them in line while they are younger. When they are small they need you for everything and that’s when you have the most control. You can control how they act, their character, and their emotions. You can’t allow society to impact them because when they get older; 15, 16, 17, it’s a little too late. CRITICAL EXAMINATION Understanding God’s Word is foundational YOUR LIFE IS AN OPEN BOOK 2 Corinthians 3:2 2 Corinthians Introduction The book of Corinthians was written by Paul to the Church at Corinth, located in an ancient city in Greece. He wrote from Ephesus around 57 A.D. (Acts 19:1) Original audience The Church at Corinth was founded on Paul’s second missionary journey to Corinth. The Church experienced much contention and disobedience as well as the rise of false teachers in the region. Context Paul wrote this letter to the church in Corinth, to defend and protect his Apostleship, and to teach and warn against false teachers who were spreading heresy. (Biblehub.com) God lead Paul to begin this church and it was the work of the Lord. This primarily gentile Church, was a testimony to the work of the Apostle Paul. 2 Corinth. 3:3 For you are clearly a letter of Christ, the fruit of our work, recorded not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in stone, but in hearts of flesh.

Your work as a Minister of the gospel should speak for itself. Your life as a child of God is a written letter in and of itself. Your life tells a story. Paul had no need to prove the authenticity of his Apostleship. The Lord called him on the road of Damascus and Paul moved forward in the work of Christ.

The works spoke for themselves. An Apostle should not be one just on paper, but in demonstration of the Spirit. Paul is not telling ministers to parade their gifts and works around but He is telling them that the fruit of Jesus in their life should be evident. The gospel message should never be used for monetary gain but to advance the Kingdom. How does this text apply to us today? In today’s time, bios and letters of recommendations are customary but should not be the only resource that tells you of a person’s life. What have you heard about the Minister you are seeking out? Romans 1:8 First of all, I give praise to my God through Jesus Christ for you all, because news of your faith has gone into all the world. News of your life will spread further than your title, position and college degrees. People need to see Jesus in the way we treat people, business transactions, health and every area of our lives. The Church should not be the only place where people know we love God. When you are in a full-time relationship, it’s difficult to hide your lover.

The man

BEHIND the worship It’s by the divine providence of God that I am where I am. I didn’t see this in my will, but it was certainly in the will of God. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.

I

t was by the divine providence of God. I worked in accounting and doing music on the side and my father had a stroke. He was on vacation out of town and while we were driving to him, the Lord spoke to me and said, “it’s time for you to leave your job and help your father.” I fought it for about three or four months. I thought my brother would Pastor and I’d continue to be assistant Pastor and I’d be good doing ministry and music. Eventually God convinced me of His will for my life. In 2007 I became the Pastor of the church and it was divinely orchestrated.

BALANCING MY ROLES It’s about prioritizing. My family is at the apex of my thought process. Family is the first institution God made in the earth. It’s God, family and then the ministry. I’ve learned the art of saying, no. I can’t be on every stage. My wife Tonya if very supportive of me and I have an exceptional staff here at the church. ROLE SHIFT As a Pastor growing up with my Father being a Pastor, I find myself doing less of what my father did. The culture has changed and the nature of how the church has shifted has changed. The way we have to handle things has changed. We live in a generation of technology and understanding but there are some things my father did extremely well. I’ve learned how

to be a people’s person. He used to tell me all the time, “as a Pastor you should smell like the sheep. They should know your scent and you should know there’s.” He always stood in the front of the church and shook hands and hugged people and I still do that today.

years of getting iron During

the time of these infusions I had to get blood drawn on a regular basis. It seemed that no matter the frequency of getting poked with a needle, the pain always felt awful and I always dreaded it. I remember saying‘ouch, ouch, ouch’, each time!

lot more. Satan will try to fool us into thinking that it’s really not necessary to completely severe unhealthy relationships behaviors, and environments; and our flesh will try to trick us into thinking that we can hold on to those unhealthy things and still live victoriously. But to have complete victory and to live holy, we will have to endure the dreaded pain of cutting some things off and casting them away from us. To go through the painful operation of cutting some things off, under the Lord’s loving hand, while on this earth. It’s a lot better than taking the chance of holding on to those things and perishing!

he idea that Christ presents in this scripture is that it’s absolutely necessary to remove anything or anyone that would poison our minds or our hearts. Jesus is painting a pretty strong and graphic picture that it’s better to sacrifice a small member than to poison and loose the whole body. After cutting off and casting away an unhealthy relationship it may seem that you have nothing left but a hurtful and empty space. Trust God, He will heal and fill that empty space with His good pleasure! The pain of self denial isn’t easy for Lady Delsa Christian anyone. Baby Landon So how did you guys meet?

My best friend from

seventh grade was marrying his best friend from seventh grade. When I went to meet my friends fiancÊ that’s when I met Adam, the man I would

eventually marry. After college we rekindled thing at our best friends wedding. We went on 6 dates in seven nights. She went back to Baltimore for a year and then we dated for an additional year then I popped the question.

Relational Health What are family values the both of you brought into your relationship?

Adam: One of the major ones is honesty. This was big when I was growing up, so I believe that hiding any part of the truth is a lie. That’s why we try to be as honest as possible. No matterwhat it is we will share it and get through it together. Brianna: I think my grandmother instilled that I need faith in God and Jesus into my marriage. These are the same values that we decided we wanted to instill in Landon, our son.

The Private Grief the

Single Woman There are many aspects of being a single woman. There is the woman who never married, the divorced woman and the widowed woman.

Let’s Talk

LADIES!

{ }

There are many aspects of being a single woman. There is the woman who never married, the divorced woman and the widowed woman. These women, like most women, have desires of the flesh. They want to have children, they want to be loved Imagine the physically by a man that grief and they love, they want to longing of the care for a family and they single woman want the respect of their who is not community. When these married. natural desires of womanhood aren’t met the woman may begin to grieve in silence for her perceived loss. The single woman who is raised in the church has heard and read many times in Proverbs 18:22 that “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.” Imagine the silent grief and longing of the single woman who is not married by thirty, forty or even fifty years old. Is it because she is not “good” and therefore not worthy of favor from the Lord? Why has

she not found one man that wants to marry her and make her his wife? Why has she turned down marriage proposals from men? Does she not feel worthy to be a wife? Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ gives counsel to the unmarried woman and the widow in 1Corinth. 7:8-9: that it is “better to marry than to burn” if they are not able to have self-control and refrain from sexual intercourse as single women. Women live in a world that is constantly bombarded with sexual images on television, in music, books, and magazines. The virgin woman may be curious about sex, the widowed woman may miss having sex with her husband and the single woman who is not a virgin may have repented and is trying to refrain from having sex. How do they deal with these thoughts and desires if they never have a husband? Read the full length article at www.kdcmag.com

WHY

WE ALL NEED BODY WORK

An important foundation for health and wellness

‘Body Work’ is a term used in alternative medicine to refer to any therapeutic technique that involves specific touch manipulation, energy medicine or breath-work therapy that results in both personal development and self-healing. Body Work involves the physical, emotional and spiritual cleansing, balancing and evolvement of the human body. These therapies are ancient in their origin and produce results that work in accordance with the body, bringing about balance and harmony and relieving many common negative symptoms that people experience on a daily basis; all without adverse side effects.

Body Work is just one aspect to foundational health, but often unrecognized and devalued as a priority. In a culture of instant gratification, Body Work has its nature in being cumulative in its results and often subtle, so people tend to devalue its efficacy, especially if they are not consistent with receiving the therapy. As we have been pre-conditioned to expect immediate results with no real commitment; hence, no effort or change comes to the individual. True healing involves dedication, open learning, open perspective, ability to change and self-reflect, and an ability to receive on a spiritual level.
