ome of us might find car trips mundane, but Dinah Worman is inspired by long drives. Her show Perspectives, on view this February at Trailside Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona, came to be after a car trip that took Worman through Colorado, Oklahoma and Iowa. “The highways make access easy as they cut through the land,” Worman says. “I am inspired by the fields and roads stacking against the horizon.” The buildings, cattle, equipment and diagonal lines of the road are all fodder for inspiration. Her “stacked landscape” style, which is ubiquitous in Perspectives, is a shift from her previous more interpretive style of realism.

“I am showing barns that are arranged and appear stacked in the barnyard. They have a contemporary leaning,” Worman says. In keeping with the winter season, she will also present snowscapes at her exhibit, also in her “stacked” style. “I can’t seem to stop seeing those cluttered buildings atop a high field of snow and experiencing a sense of space that is somehow exhilarating.” This change in style came out of years working to simplify her paintings by rearranging the landscape to represent her emotional connection with nature. “Man’s relationship to the land is part of the human experience and I am in awe of the wonder of it as it evolves and

dissolves together,” she says. Like the ever-changing nature of the environment, Worman is constantly striving to evolve her style. “I work to press beyond method and into a flow of creative instinct; using pastel, oil, acrylic or printmaking to express myself with unusual compositions and expanding vision.” Worman’s Perspectives, which will include as many as 15 new works, will be on view at Trailside Gallery from February 1 to 28.
