SPORTING heroes led the way as grand marshals of the Killarney St Patrick’s Day parade, with the All-Ireland winning senior and minor captains Fionn Fitzgerald and Kieran O’Leary and Liam Kearney taking the helm. Thugs were believed to have started a number of the fires that destroyed swathes of south Kerry and damaged thousands of acres in Killarney National Park. A special team of Gardaí was set up to track down the malicious fire-starters after the blazes threatened homes and Killarney National Park. Bride and groom Aishling Duggan and Jason McElligott hit the headlines when they took time out in Killarney between their church ceremony and reception to place a bet on the Aintree Grand National. BoyleSports promptly launched a hunt for the mystery bride and groom to give the happy couple a e100 bet on Many Clouds, who won the Grand National, at 25/1. Team Kerry was led out by none other than mythic warrior Cúchulainn who kept a watchful eye over proceedings from Molls Gap at the fourth annual county clean-up facilitated by KWD Recycling which drew over 3,200 volunteers.
