Birthday celebration leads to big day out BY EVE KELLIHER

UPID’S arrow struck for Orla Coffey and Donal Horgan when Orla was out celebrating her birthday in February 2013 in the Killarney Grand Hotel. Strangely, although Orla, from Scartaglin, and Kilcummin native Donal Horgan lived a mere 10-minute drive away from one another, their paths never crossed before that night. “We had our first date a week later and haven't looked back since,” said Orla. Donal proposed at home on Christmas Eve 2015 and the bride, the daughter of Margaret and Jim Coffey, and groom, the son of the late Eileen and Danny Horgan, were married recently in Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Kilcummin in a ceremony led by Fr John Lucid, and held their reception in the Killarney Avenue Hotel. Photographer Nerijus Karmilcovas of K Photography captured the big day on camera, including a photoshoot at Muckross House and Gardens. Orla’s sister Imelda Coffey lent her support as bridesmaid while Donal’s brother Michael Horgan was best man. The bride looked stunning in a Verise wedding gown and she and Imelda’s hair and makeup were by the team at Sean Taaffe Hair & Beauty, Killarney. The church music was by Lily MacMonagle while Donal’s sister Mary of Adam’s Jewellers supplied the rings. The Pat Fitz Wedding Band ensured dancing continued long into the night. “Will King did an amazing job with our wedding cake,” said Orla. “As Donal is a dairy farmer, Will designed a four-tier, dairy farmthemed wedding cake which everyone enjoyed.” Staff and management at the Killarney Avenue Hotel ensured the couple’s celebrations were perfect, from their engagement party in January 2016 to their wedding reception and a party the day after. Guests travelled from across Ireland and beyond for the occasion, with the bride’s sister Molly arriving from Canada especially. “It was a perfect day we will always treasure,” said Orla. The newlyweds, who will reside in Kilcummin, honeymooned in Sydney, Australia.
