News & Views Big Garden Birdwatch

It will be eyes to the skies on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 January 2014, as the nation takes part in the RSPB’s annual Big Garden Birdwatch. The activity is the biggest garden wildlife survey in the world and last year almost 600,000 people counted the birds in their garden. This year, participants will be hoping that further declines of garden favourites recorded last year have slowed down. Starlings hit an all-time low in the 2012 Birdwatch but their numbers then sunk by a further 16 per cent last year. Numbers of house sparrows, which are of high conservation concern, dropped by 17 per cent in gardens compared to 2012, whilst bullfinches and dunnocks fell by 20 per cent and 13 per cent respectively. Big Garden Birdwatch, which has been running for 35 years, provides the RSPB with masses of information about changes in numbers of garden birds in winter, and helps to alert conservationists to significant declines in UK garden species like house sparrows and starlings. And this year, for the first time, participants are being asked to log some of the other wildlife they see in their gardens too. The RSPB wants to know whether people ever see deer, squirrels, badgers, hedgehogs, frogs and toads in their gardens, to help build an overall picture of how important our gardens are for giving all types of wildlife a home. Participants don’t have to count these other species over the Big Garden Birdwatch weekend, just tell the RSPB whether they have ever seen them in their gardens, at any time of year. To take part, people are asked to spend just one hour at any time of Big Garden Birdwatch weekend noting the highest number of each bird species seen in their gardens or local outside space at any one time. They then have three weeks to submit their results to the RSPB, either online at www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch or in the post. From 16th December 2013 you can register to take part in Big Garden Birdwatch 2014 at www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch

KidAround’s New Charity of the Year Families InFocus (Essex)

KidAround is delighted to announce that our new Charity of the Year for 2014 is Families InFocus (Essex) whose work supports families of children with disabilities and special needs. Families InFocus (Essex) is an active and vibrant parent-led, independent charity offering free specialist advice, information and support to any Essex family who has a child or young person with any disability or special need. Set up in 1996, following intensive research into the needs of families of children with disabilities and special needs, the charity now has over 4,000 families on its books and provides in-depth support to over 900 different families each year. They are unique in what they do, as their support is not limited to a set time. They can help families with children aged from newborn to 19, on any number of presenting issues, throughout their child’s development. They have a committed and dedicated team of staff, trustees and volunteers who are sensitive to disability issues. Their team of highly-skilled and experienced Family Support Advisers provide an outreach service (one-toone support, home visits, attending school and other meetings) which is co-ordinated across Essex. They have an enviable record of making a real difference to children and families. Support includes help with education issues to ensure the child receives appropriate support or additional resources in the classroom, ongoing emotional support, help with obtaining disability-related benefits for the child to help with extra costs, and preparing for and attending appeals and tribunals (both education and benefits). For many they are a real lifeline, summed up by one parent who said “Families InFocus made me feel I was no longer alone. They gave me hope”. They also hold regular fun events which families eagerly look forward to; drop-ins across the county where parents/carers can meet, relax and enjoy some pampering and much more. Families InFocus (Essex) is a registered charity no. 1062311 and a limited company registered in England and Wales no. 3287829. News & Views Winter Motoring Checklist

The AA advises us to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Two out of the last three winters have seen widespread snow and ice for weeks on end, with temperatures regularly falling below -10C. You’re more likely to break down in a bad winter – the AA had its busiest day ever on Monday 4th January 2010 and then again, less than 12 months later, on Monday 20th December 2010 when AA patrols handled more than 28,000 breakdowns. There’s more risk of delays too but not necessarily in the way you’d expect. If vehicles ahead lose control – a jackknifed lorry for example – you won’t be able to get through no matter how well-equipped your car is with winter tyres or chains. You could face a wait of several hours until the blockage and other traffic ahead has been cleared. As well as the things you should be carrying on every journey regardless of the weather, you should make up a winter emergency kit to keep in the boot – hopefully you won’t need it but you will be very glad it’s there if you do. WINTER CHECKLIST FOR YOU AND YOUR PASSENGERS: • • • • • •

Fully-charged mobile phone and in-car charger Sunglasses Personal medication Warning triangle Spare bulbs First aid kit

• • • • • •

Road atlas – in case of diversions • Sat-nav or printed route for unfamiliar journeys Breakdown membership card • Winter emergency kit Blanket, rug or sleeping bag • Shovel •

CHECK YOUR CAR Antifreeze – check coolant level regularly and, if required, top-up with a mixture of the correct type of antifreeze. Battery – the most common cause of winter breakdowns. A battery more than five years old may struggle in the cold. Fuel – keep at least a quarter of a tank in case of unexpected delay. Lights – check and clean all lights regularly to make sure you can see and be seen clearly. Carry spare bulbs.

Bits of carpet or thick cardboard to place under driven wheels to help regain traction on ice or snow Salt, sand or cat litter – to help clear snow and ice Reflective jacket(s) Ice scraper and de-icer

• • • • • •

Torch and batteries Tow rope Battery jump leads Snow chains (if you live in a remote or rural area) Bottled water Snacks – chocolate or cereal bars

Tyres – should have at least 3mm of tread for winter motoring. Consider winter tyres for improved safety. Windscreen – reduce dazzle from the low sun by keeping the screen clean inside and out. Screen Wash – use a 50% mix of a good quality screen wash to reduce the chance of freezing in frosty weather. Locks and Door Seals – stop doors freezing shut with a thin coat of polish or Vaseline on rubber door seals.

Grandma’s Diary

Grandparents play an important and often formative role in the lives of many children. KidAround asked grandmother of four, Harriet Miller, to share her experiences of modern grandparenting. She gives us her thoughts below. Denny sits on my lap. He’s a skinny little boy with silky brown hair and a cute turned up nose, and reminds me keenly of his Mummy at the same age. At four and three quarters, he’s just started school. Today is the first day I have collected him instead of Mummy. After relaxing against me for a quarter of an hour, reading together his favourite book, he looks at me with his soft brown eyes and says in a low voice, almost whispering, “Grandma, do you know how much – much – MUCH I love you?” Later, Mummy tells me he says he loves her “the whole world and all the biscuits!” Denny’s just figuring out who Grandma is and how the whole family fits together. “I’m Mummy’s Mummy” I say helpfully, and he looks at me slightly disbelievingly. “Who’s Grandad then?” he asks. Ah, that’s a bit more complicated. “He’s Mummy’s Daddy. But Grandad and Grandma don’t live together like your Mummy and Daddy do…” Hmm! I asked Sophie (aged eleven and just started secondary school) to tell me something important about being my granddaughter. “You live in England and me and Joe live in Wales” she said. “And your other two grandchildren live up the road from you”. All true, and my reply was “but I love you all just the same!” Yes I do, but it is also different. Denny and Rudy (two) are part of my daily life and I babysit a lot for them. When I see Sophie and Joe (eight) it’s nearly always holidays or Christmas, or those special in-between weekends when we dash down and spend an intense 36 hours with them and then don’t see them for months. The “we” is myself and “Gramps”, my husband Robert. Robert has leapt straight from having no children of his own to being very much a grandparent of four, who all love him and have their own relationships with him. We grandparents come by a variety of names, each of which is infused with love. Grandma (Nanny, Granny) and Grandad (Grandpop, Grandpa) can have a huge presence and role in children’s lives.

If we were lucky enough to have them, we never forget them, and they shape not just our childhood but also the kind of parents we become and later the kind of grandparents we are in turn. In the best of worlds, they provide a context for who we are and where we come from. They can be the baton-holders and signposts of each generation, giving us the roots of our family history and a map for our journeys through life. And now it’s not “them” but “me” and “us”, as, inexplicably and, it seems, in the blink of an eye I have reached that time of life!

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month This December marks the annual Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, CLIC Sargent, is ready for a month of awareness and fundraising. Between 1,500 and 1,700 children are diagnosed with cancer each year with up to 50 per cent of them being under five years old. Last year, CLIC Sargent supported more than 6,600 children and young people across the UK. In Essex alone last year, the charity was there for 198 families and provided a total of 155 grants, amounting to £43,470 across the county. Every day, ten children and young people hear the shocking news they have cancer. CLIC Sargent is there to provide practical, emotional and financial support, from diagnosis onwards. To mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, CLIC Sargent is asking people to join its Big Bucket campaign and become a Bucketeer by giving up a small amount of time to collect donations for the charity. You can join the fun for just a couple of hours or make a day of it. The charity is also releasing a report, entitled ‘No young person with cancer left out’ which focuses on the effect of cancer on 16-24 year olds going into further education, training and employment. CLIC Sargent Community Fundraising Manager Karen Roberts said: “We would love to see more people signing up to volunteer at this year’s Big Bucket Campaign. At the moment we can only give two out of three children and young people with cancer, and their families, all the support that they need throughout treatment and beyond. We want to be there for more of them when they need us most, but we can only do this with your help.” To find out more about becoming a Bucketeer or getting involved with any fundraising events for CLIC Sargent contact Community Fundraising Manager Karen Roberts on 01284 829090 or email karen.roberts@clicsargent.org.uk www.kidaround.biz • Winter 2013/14 • South Essex • 9

The Benefits of Drama for Children

What are some of the benefits to children of participating in drama activities? With years of experience of teaching 5 - 7 year olds, ex-drama teacher, Susan Stephenson from Australia, offers the following advice on her blog www.beafunmum.com as to why drama is important to children and the benefits that can be acheived. Susan suggests the following points are key: •

Drama helps children think creatively. Many of the habits they develop during drama carry over to other everyday activities, highlighting the importance of drama for children in other educational settings

Drama encourages children to work collaboratively. They take part in activities where they must rely on each other and learn to trust

Drama is a wonderful way for children to interact with, and interpret, literature, or text of any sort. They get opportunities to analyse how a character’s personality, motives and actions influence plot. This can be as simple as understanding and portraying the fear that a piggy feels when confronted by a wolf. Some kids who think they don’t like books will find their way to reading by dramatising a story or poem

Drama develops communication skills. Children learn how to use their face, voice and body movements to get a message across to any audience, whether it be at a job interview, on stage, or with a group of friends

Drama allows children to practise many of the higher order thinking skills in a playful context. They must think critically, apply knowledge to new situations, analyze, solve problems, make decisions, collaborate – all skills that will benefit not just their reading and writing, but every core subject at school

Drama prepares children for real life. In our rush to have children acquire academic learning, we often forget their personal and social development. The emphasis in drama is on being a team member and working collaboratively rather than hogging the limelight for yourself. Children are expected to be active, reflective, flexible, responsible and responsive – all skills that will benefit them in every facet of their lives

Drama gives children an outlet for their creativity. Not every child can wield a paintbrush to their own satisfaction or play an instrument like a virtuoso. Drama is a level playing field. I have seen so many children blossom in drama classes

Drama encourages self-discipline. It might look and sound messy and noisy, but it isn’t mayhem. It’s not about putting yourself first. It’s about working as a group

Drama gives us a way to gain understanding of others. We learn tolerance by walking a mile in another’s shoes, and drama is a way to do that

There are several well-respected and established drama and theatre schools in this region. Why not check out this feature, or the KidAround Get Active listings, to find one near you and get your child involved in drama? 10 • Winter 2013/14 • South Essex • www.kidaround.biz

Are children losing their creativity? The children of today are the innovators, designers and inventors of tomorrow. We need them to stay in touch with their creative minds. Children are naturally creative. They enjoy pretending, exploring, imitating and thinking outside the box. They want to learn about weird and wonderful phenomena’s, ask questions as to how, what, where, when and why? They can look at a situation and turn it upside down, back to front and on its head. They explore, design, improvise and devise. Children need to keep these skills for later in life. But do they get the chance to use these wonderful talents? With their naturally inquisitive minds it is important that children have a place where they can explore their imaginations and stay creative. Ongar Arts Academy Drama Classes Ongar Arts Academy provides a space where children can tap into their creativity and explore their imaginations by playing games, drawing pictures, and acting out improvisations. The children at Ongar Arts Academy have enormous fun. They enjoy sharing ideas, talking about what is important to them and making new friends. Also, whilst enjoying themselves, the children learn life skills, like the art of communication, discipline and teamwork. Would your children like to come along and try a class, free of charge? Run by a professionally-trained actress with childcare qualifications, Ongar Arts Academy is an affordable, traditional style drama group with an up to date outlook. For more information phone Ongar Arts Academy on 07770 500212 or email: ongardramagroup@outlook.com

Stagecoach

With over 700 theatre schools worldwide and more than 40,000 students, Stagecoach is the longest running performing arts schools network in the world; a recognised name that parents trust. Stagecoach ensure that each child gets the most out of their experience by building life skills and confidence while having lots of fun in drama, dance and singing. At Stagecoach Chelmsford every child is special; no one gets lost in the crowd. In their shows and presentations every child has a speaking role. Sessions run at St John Payne School, at various times each Saturday, for students aged between 4 and 18 years. In addition to classes and shows, students can take examinations, which carry academic points in exactly the same way as GCSEs, ensuring they are always working towards a positive future. There is also the option of joining The Stagecoach Agency for those who wish to be considered for professional work; current students are appearing in commercials and in some drama series on Channel 4. Many older students have gone on to full time vocational training in the performing arts, whilst others have appeared in a short film which is currently in competition at various film festivals in Europe. Next term, Stagecoach will present the classic “Alice in Wonderland”....and all budding Cheshire Cats and Mad Hatters will be made welcome, regardless of experience. Following that, guest tutors will be leading master classes in TV acting and production, the Stagecoach Charitable Trust will be launching an InterAct session in Chelmsford especially for disabled and special needs children, and there will be an opportunity for existing students to perform in the West End and at Disneyland, Paris. Theatretrain - Dance, Act, Sing

Theatretrain has grown into one of the largest professional performing arts training organisations in the country. It was decided early on that prices of classes would be kept at a level affordable by most families but what makes Theatretrain distinctive are the performance opportunities given to each pupil. Theatretrain is open to all children from the age of six and includes all its pupils in either a West End (in July 2013 every pupil performed at the O2!) or local theatre each year. No auditions or experience are required just lots of enthusiasm, energy and commitment. Chelmsford Theatretrain is also pleased to announce it has just become a learning destination for the Children’s University. Because Theatretrain brings out the best in students, building confidence and gives aspiring young performers opportunities of a lifetime, therefore Theatretrain pupils can bring their learning passports to be stamped! In addition to the teaching staff there is a dedicated carer for the youngest group offering extra support if required. They also have a buddy system to help new students settle in and make friends quickly. There is no expensive uniform to worry about; pupils wear black leggings, a black Theatretrain T-shirt and soft soled trainers or plimsoles. For more information go to www.theatretrain.co.uk or to book your free trial session call Sharon on 01277 224853 or Mark on 01621 850 274. Theatretrain hopes to see you soon!

News & Views The Edge Chronicles: Curse of the Gloamglozer by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell rrp £6.99 www.randomhouse.co.uk This book is based in a huge region called the Edge and is set on a floating city called Sanctaphrax. The main character, Quint, is the son of a legendary sky-pirate called Wind Jackal. The lead man on Sanctaphrax, the Most High Acadame, ‘adopts’ him and takes him on as his apprentice. Then weird stuff starts happening to the Acadame, and Quint and the Academe’s daughter try to find out what’s happening. This was a great fantasy book and I think fans of weird and fantasy books would enjoy it. 10/10 stuff, fast-paced humour all the way through! Reviewed by Harry Ikel age 12

Fangs Vampire Spy: Operation: Golden Bum by Tommy Donbavand rrp £4.99 www.walker.co.uk I enjoyed both books, but book one was my favourite. They are about ‘Fangs the vampire spy’ and his crime-busting adventures. The bit I enjoyed most in book one was when the main characters asked the zombie questions about a crime and when he didnt want to answer he ripped his own tongue out and threw it in the corner (gross but funny!) My favourite character was the main one, Fangs Enigma, as he was funny and meets weird people. This book is suitable for advanced younger readers (although they might not understand the jokes) or age 8-9+. The only downside is that it would have been brilliant to see more illustrations Reviewed by Samuel Van Vynck, aged 7

Fairy Animals of Misty Wood (Chloe The Kitten) by Lily Small rrp £4.99 www.egmont.co.uk The books are about animals which live in an enchanted wood. They all have special jobs to do. The books are girly, sparkly and have cute pictures inside. My favourite book is Chloe the Kitten, as Chloe has an important job to do in collecting her dew drops. I found it very funny with her walnut shell basket, and she was so forgetful. I love the cute fairy wings, and wished I could fly too. In the back of the books, there are activities and questions. I can’t wait for the next two books to come out! These books are perfect for any young girl aged 6-8. Reviewed by Sophie Greenhalgh aged 6

Ever After High: The Storybook of Legends by Shannon Hale rrp £9.99 www.littlebrown.co.uk Happy Ever After was a really good book. I loved the cover and the story kept me gripped. It’s all about an enchanted boarding school where the students go to prepare themselves for their destiny, which is being part of a fairytale story. However, the main character, Raven is suppose to be evil in her fairytale just like her mother was in hers. But Raven doesn’t want to be evil and tries to change her own story/future. It is a very good twist on the usual fairytale story books and I didn’t want to put it down. Reviewed by Evie Smith aged 10

Olive & Moss Books (Michael the Monkey) by Olive & Moss rrp £5.99 www.egmont.co.uk This is a beautifully illustrated set of four books, each with a different theme – noises, colours, shapes and numbers. At first, Daniel was a little surprised that they don’t have any flaps or fabrics to feel, but they really don’t need them as this focuses your attention on the lovely glossy pictures. They seem very sturdy but are a good size and weight for little hands and Daniel was easily able to turn the pages himself. Our favourite was ‘Michael the Monkey’ as it gave a good opportunity for making lots of instrument noises together! My only reservation would be that a couple of the books are very pink-biased which may not appeal to some people, but overall a fantastic set of books. Reviewed by Daniel aged 14 months and mum Vicki

Just Imagine series by Nick Sharratt www.randomhouse.co.uk Just Imagine Coloring Book With Stickers. rrp £3.99 The first thing that Alice noticed was the stickers in the colouring book which kept her busy for hours. The cover is very bright and we both enjoyed colouring in the pictures. It also captured Alice’s attention and made her ask questions such as ‘What’s this Mummy?’ What are they doing Mummy?’ Just Imagine rrp £5.99 Just Imagine book was just as good. Together, they make a great tool to help talk about all of the things that you want to do or be! Alice and I have sat together every night to look and talk about the pictures, the people and places shown in these books. Reviewed by Alice aged 2 and her mum Kerry

Education The Powerful Story UK Children Become Published Authors

In a UK first, over 60 UK children have collaborated to become published authors. The Powerful Story, a book about the past, present and future of energy, has been published thanks to British Gas’ Generation Green programme. The first of its kind, the book is a collaboration between more than 60 children aged between 9-10 years old, and children’s author Ciaran Murtagh. The Powerful Story was kicked off by author Ciaran Murtagh, before primary school pupils aged between 9-10 from England, Scotland and Wales were challenged to complete the book. There were over 350 entries to the competition, of which 12 winning entries were chosen. As part of the prize, Ciaran Murtagh has been visiting winning pupils around the country to run creative workshop sessions with the pupils and their classmates. The Powerful Story was also brought to life in a free to visit, interactive exhibition at Eureka! The National Children’s Museum, in Halifax, West Yorkshire. The exhibition ran over the October half-term, allowing children to explore The Powerful Story and learn about the past, present and future of energy and over 2,000 children visited the exhibition. Author Ciaran Murtagh said “It’s been a real privilege reading the entries to The Powerful Story from children across the UK. Their creative ideas and passion for the energy story made choosing the winners a near-impossible task’. “I’d have jumped at the chance to do this when I was at school, so I’m delighted to be helping British Gas’ Generation Green enable kids to become published authors and to have their ideas for solving our energy challenges.” WIN! We have five copies of The Powerful Story up for grabs. To be in with a chance of winning one, simply email your name, address and daytime contact number to comps@kidaround.biz by the closing date of Friday 16th December.

Birth & Beyond

Celebrate the under-fives with our special Birth and Beyond feature!

Personalised Gifts From HappyHands

Happyhands is now in its thirteenth year (so their first baby footprint clients are teenagers!). They have a special, inkless method of taking your baby’s hand and footprints which makes no mess. This means you can then preserve this wonderful memory on ceramic mugs, tiles and any number of other products (see their website www.happyhands.co.uk), including their latest idea which is putting the whole family’s prints onto a stylish and colourful canvas. How it works, is that they send you the special inkless foot/handprint kit and you take the whole family’s prints. They will then change these into whatever colour you want and set them out to your design. The minimum price is £60 plus P&P for up to four prints. It then costs an extra £10 per print thereafter. Alternatively, you can just put your baby’s prints on a mug for Granny and Grandpa for Christmas and take advantage of the special KidAround offer (see advert below). For more information or to discuss their wonderful products, contact 0845 466 0171 www.happyhands.co.uk

Little Otters

Jan and Michelle share a passion for water. With guidance from Chris and Sue, founders of Birthlight Chelmsford, they have trained to become infant and preschool swim teachers. In January 2008, Jan and Michelle set up their own swim school, Little Otters, which has gradually grown as their knowledge and experience has grown. They have since helped others, who work alongside them, train with Birthlight. They also share ideas and knowledge with other local Birthlight schools. Their aim is to teach high-quality, fun classes at each baby and parents’ own pace. As parents themselves, they learned from their own children as well as those who have swum with Little Otters. Please visit at www.little-otters.com if you wish to find out more.

Music is Fun with Jo Jingles!

Jo Jingles offers really fun music and movement sessions for babies and children aged from three months to five years. Jo Jingles has been successfully running for over 17 years with 100 franchises in the UK and Ireland, reaching over 12,000 children each week. The weekly themed programmes are carefully developed to be age appropriate, and structured to work in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage. They run a variety of topical themes each week eg: Jo goes to the Jungle, numbers, Jo gets fit, Jo goes Christmas shopping. During the classes they use two percussion instruments (regularly rotated), lovely props, bubbles, parachute along with action and movement songs. As children love and learn through repetition some of the songs are repeated during the 45 minute session finishing with a favourite - Sleeping Bunnies! Children instinctively move when they hear music and research suggests that physical movement is important for brain development. Various studies show that memory of words and music are further enhanced by physical movement and singing. Research even suggests that the earlier music is introduced to a child the more potential that child will have for learning. Jo Jingles sessions also provide quality time for parent/carer and child and there’s no experience so rewarding as those you do with your baby and child. Those first experiences are the building blocks for future development, both educationally and emotionally and Jo Jingles feels privileged that so many families allow them to participate in this very early years experience with their children. Birth & Beyond

Coming Home From Hospital

Continuing her series of advice columns for KidAround, Lisa Clegg, author of The Blissful Baby Expert, shares her wisdom on how to cope when you bring your newborn baby home from hospital. Lisa says: Coming home is the most wonderful part, but also the most terrifying! After all the build-up and anticipation over your little one’s arrival over the past 9 months, all parents look forward to this moment. However, when you get home and close the door, you inevitably wonder, “OK, now what do I do?” You have this little person whom you created, who is relying on you and is your responsibility for at least the next 18 years. What you do and say, and how you love and care for them, will shape the person they become. It is such a scary thought for all of us-but a perfectly normal one, and experienced by every parent in the world. There will also most likely be a queue of visitors waiting to pounce on you the moment you get home. Don’t be afraid to put them off for a few days while you settle yourself and the baby. Do whatever you feel is right. People will understand. Labour and birth is exhausting and traumatic for you and your baby. It is very normal for your newborn to be unsettled for the first week or so following birth. He or she has been used to being nice and cosy inside you for the last 9 months, and being born is a huge change for them. The baby will probably need to hear or feel you close to him/her for reassurance. Try and gracefully accept any help that’s offered in the first few weeks. If someone offers to do your ironing for you, or cook a meal and drop it round, then grab the offer with both hands! Most new mums feel as if they have something to prove when they bring the baby home, but you don’t need to be some kind of superwoman running around keeping the house spotless, and cooking wonderful meals for your partner. This is just a sure-fire way to become stressed, which in turn will upset your baby. Let your partner, and family and friends help you, particularly during the first couple of weeks. This will help you recover from the physical and emotional side of birth, bond with your baby, and try to establish a regular, daily feeding routine with your baby, whether you decide to breast or bottle feed. The Blissful Baby Expert is published by Vermilion RRP £10.99. For more information or to buy a copy of the book visit www.theblissfulbabyexpert.co.uk To purchase a copy from Amazon please visit to http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blissful-Baby-Expert-Lisa-Clegg/dp/0091955017/ref=sr_1_1?ie= UTF8&qid=1378992927&sr=8-1&keywords=the+blissful+baby+expert You can email Lisa for some free advice on sleep or feeding issues at Lisa@theblissfulbabyexpert.com

Let’s Party

Laser Mayhem Laser Tag Parties Laser Mayhem is the place to take the kids for a great day out. What can be more fun than running around playing outdoor Laser Tag in their Call of Duty themed playing areas with a real Russian 38 tonne battle tank, armoured personal carriers, planes, helicopters, land rovers, forts and much, much more? Infact Mayhem is equipped with over twenty unique and exciting combat areas, with even a ‘Wild West’ and ‘World War II’ zone, as well as the traditional urban and woodland zones. Laser Mayhem has something to offer each party. You will be taken around by Mayhem’s highly-trained staff and play a variety of different maps, using the latest in outdoor laser tag technology. You can even shoot an opponent up to 300m away! Located on the border of Essex and London, Laser Mayhem is a renowned paintballing and laser tag company. Mayhem is gaining popularity with celebrities (including The Only Way Is Essex cast!), Saudi Arabian royalty, as well as everyday customers and is soon to feature on the new KFC advert. Laser Mayhem has a designated area for birthday parties, where an assortment of refreshments can be served. Alternatively, in preparation for a high-tempo and busy day, customers also have the option of bringing their own food or can order pizza to the venue. Bespoke packages and lunch buffets are also available, upon request, for corporate events. Proving that Laser Mayhem continually go the extra mile for their customers, they provide a free minibus pick-up and drop-off service for those travelling on the underground at the Central Line station, Theydon Bois. With the Christmas holidays fast approaching, Laser Mayhem is holding a range of exciting action-packed special events. On Saturday 28th December there will be a laser tag ‘Call of Duty Modern Warfare’ mission running throughout the day, at a highly generous price of £18.50 per person, for a 2 hour session. Sessions will be running from 11:30am-1:30pm and 1pm-3pm, with further dates being announced nearer the time. To get you in the festive mood, facepainting will also be available for teams that will be made up of Marines. If you fancy paintballing instead, then the next ‘Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3’ event will be announced on the website very soon. Being described as ‘The Daddy’ of all paintball scenario days, it will be one not to be missed! With the intention and commitment to providing their customers with a memorable experience, Laser Mayhem are accustomed to receiving bookings for school and corporate events, birthday parties and many other occasions. To see what Laser Mayhem can offer you and your party, please contact: Laser Mayhem, Pryors Farm, Ongar Road. Essex. RM4 1AA.
