MODULE

DESCRIPTION

This module places a strong emphasis on various aspects of design, including the design process, programming, critical thinking, and considering environmental influences and end-user needs. It also focuses on developing graphical communication and technical skills. Commercial project tasks align with industry trends and emphasize materiality and specifications, preparing students for real-world challenges. The module explores the attraction of workspace value to specific markets through interior design, emphasizing the importance of reflecting brand values and corporate identity in workspaces to create spaces that resonate with the target market. By doing so, it fosters a strong connection between the workspace and the brand it represents.

OFF-GRID HABITAT NARRATIVE PROGRAM

GROUP + INDIVIDUAL

PROJECT 1

ABSTRACT

In 2023, the ongoing epidemic has led to a shift in lifestyle choices in Malaysia, with a rising interest in off-grid dwellings for social isolation and selfsufficiency. These houses operate independently, providing their own energy, water, and waste management. However, Malaysia faces challenges in its political climate, with limited resources and difficulties sustaining a healthy environment. Clean water scarcity in certain areas, inadequate healthcare services, and limited educational and recreational opportunities for youth are pressing concerns.

To address these issues, a semester-long study will focus on five key themes, This semester, the focus will be on five pieces to delve deeper into the nation's pressing concerns: Design + Technology, Health + Well-being, Youth + Sports, and Women + Welfare. By exploring these themes, the aim is to find innovative solutions to improve living conditions, healthcare, and overall well-being, particularly for vulnerable groups such as women and youth. Combining creativity and social awareness, Malaysia can work towards a brighter, more sustainable future despite current obstacles.

After submitting our proposal we have assigned to continue the other task with the theme of DESGN+TECHNOLOGY.

The task is to design a space within a 12m x 12m area (144 sqm) using a single container measuring 12m long x 2.4m wide x 2.7m high. The design can involve creative stacking of the container, either vertically or horizontally, to optimize space utilization and create innovative living arrangements.

We are also required to do a group narrative board and an individual space program in that container.

we proposed to use recycled, reused, and salvaged materials where we took something that is no longer in use and gave it a second life and new function. using waste as a building material and the finished product is more environmental-friendly, economical, and special than what it previously was.

PROJECT 2

REKASCAPES

The site that was given by our lecturer for assignments 2 and 3 is REKASCAPES from Cyberjaya.

REKASCAPE Cyberjaya is a sustainable 10-acre mixeduse development in Malaysia's Cyberjaya. The site's layout prioritizes energy efficiency and eco-friendliness to minimize its environmental impact. It offers various office spaces, including small offices and co-working areas, featuring eco-friendly elements like natural lighting and energy-efficient systems. Strategically placed buildings provide easy access to transportation and amenities. The development also includes recreational spaces such as parks and sports facilities to promote worker well-being. Overall, REKASCAPE Cyberjaya aims to create a sustainable environment that fosters collaboration, creativity, and innovation while meeting the needs of both workers and the community.

PROJECT3

INTRO

In Project 1, the concept of "live" was explored, and now, the focus shifts to "work and play." Striking a balance between work and play is crucial for a fulfilling and healthy lifestyle. The term 'work + play emphasizes the importance of this balance, recognizing that the office is more than just a building it is a space for building connections, collaboration, and innovation.

The pandemic has accelerated the evolution of the workplace, leading to flexible office designs that cluster spaces for different functions, such as co-working, collaboration, and socializing. Research indicates that providing workers with the ability to change their environment increases productivity and efficiency.

In the final project we are required to design a future of the office, considering new norms and technologies like voice and digital twins, graphene, and battery-powered buildings. The objective is for students to showcase their technical knowledge, and communication skills, and design ideas effectively to create dynamic workspaces that spark creativity, communication, collaboration, and innovation.

after knowing all the requirements and needs, here come out with KAIN-MU

REFLECTION

This semester, I can confidently say it has been an exciting and adventurous journey for me. First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude to our dedicated and passionate lecturers and tutors, Ms. Fatimah, Ms. Yashmin, and Ms. Chelsea, for guiding us throughout the entire semester with their unwavering support and care.

During the assignments, some of which were group projects, I realized the importance of good teamwork and cooperation. Working together with my group mates and the entire class on the group models was an incredible experience. The teamwork displayed was wonderful, and it created memorable moments for us.

However, during the final review day, I received commendable feedback on my work, but I also found myself disappointed with my presentation and communication skills. It served as a reminder that I need to put more effort into improving this aspect to enhance the overall outcome of my work.

In conclusion, despite the challenges and stress, I managed to complete everything on time and acquired new knowledge throughout the journey. Despite the difficulties, I am extremely proud of my work, and it has been a rewarding experience overall.
