Welcome to our 4th annual sale and 2nd as Biting the Border Bull Sale.

It’s exciting for us to bring you a great set of bulls at an outstanding facility. This year’s sale welcomes Farside Charolais with some 2-year-old bulls.

A little bit about us; we ranch about 30km from Macklin SK by Cactus Lake just inside the Saskatchewan border. Lyle is on the farm full time & helps a couple neighbours in our down time. Sheann works full time off the farm as a health care aide. Brill is in grade 6 at Macklin School. He loves the 4-H beef program and is an active member of the Senlac multiple 4-H club. Brill also takes weekly horse back riding lessons. Brill ventured into the red angus division and will have a younger bull calf for sale off the farm.

We are devoted to making bulls for our commercial cattle friends. Bulls that are easy calving but add pound’s & performance come weaning time. We started our purebred herd in 2015 with the purchase of females from MJT Cattle Co, Pedersen Livestock & Standard Hill Livestock. Last fall we added 3 new bred heifers to our herd from Brooking Angus, Royal Rock Angus & Dwajo Angus. We are not about numbers quality comes first & foremost. They must have good udders, feet, legs & overall performance or they get culled. There is always room for improvements with the focus on udders, feet & temperament.

2023 was a busy year. Unfortunately, we were not able to attend Stockade Round Up as Sheann was in an accident, but with that it gave us some extra time to get caught up around the farm & enjoy the beautiful fall we had. Lyle had some great success with AIing some of our commercial cows and we look forward to offering some new genetics through proven sires that will compliment our herd and the angus’ breed.

Our herd is on a full herd health program through Border Vet Clinic including their mineral program. Our bulls are being fed chopped barley, silage bales & free choice hay.

We hope to see you all on sale day but if you can’t make it the bulls are ready to view any time on the farm and the sale will be online with DLMS.

This fella has super star genetics’, and we think a lot of his sire and dam. He’s an ET calf out of the legendary Bar E L Erica 74A female and the prestigious MJT Impress 813F 74A has a phenomenal udder she is moderate and very feminine. She is a very renowned female in the angus world. We have a great deal of respect for the MJT program and Impress does not disappoint. This bull shows how these two high quality genetics cross. He’s got such good fundamentals in terms of his foot and legs, and combined with a lot of thickness and muscle all while maintaining a presence that makes him fun to look at.

Biting The Border Bull Sale We purchased this fella at the MJT sale for $22000 in 2019. Mick then decided to buy ½ to use in his spring program. His calving ease is second to none and he passes that to his offspring. He’s an easy doing big muscled, and balanced bull that adds pounds to his calves come weaning time. His daughters are outstanding mothers, with exceptional feet & udders. 674E at 8 years old show great longevity working for 2 programs each year and has proven to be an outstanding herd-sire.

He’s a moderate powerhouse of a bull.

We got him to use on the heifers and he puts the ease in calving with a 68lb birth weight. He’s got tons of power on a moderate frame, he’s a thick muscled easy doing bull.

He’s one of Brills favourite bulls this year and is also a half brother to his 4-H steer & heifer. His steer weaned off a first calver at 900lbs. This guy should do the same.

Lyle and Sheann have worked on herd health in collaboration with Border Veterinary Clinic for many years. A modified live and clostridial vaccination program is in place for the cows as well as the calves.

Parasite, internal and external, management and biosecurity have also been at the forefront of their priorities. The herd with visited by one of our veterinarians at least twice yearly; for Breeding Soundness Evaluation and Pregnancy testing. These visits are a welcomed occasion to discuss challenges faced, review herd health protocols and plan for the year to come. It is a pleasure to work with Lyle, Sheann and Brill.

Welcome to our first Biting the Border Bull Sale.

To start we need to thank Lyle, Sheann, and Brill Brosinsky of L&S Livestock for allowing us to join their Annual bull sale. We are very grateful to have been given the opportunity to join the sale to get our name out there and to bring some quality Charolais bulls into the ring.

We are Connor and Mckenzie Willis and we started Farside Charolais in October of 2021 when we took over what remained of Connor’s Uncle and Grandparents herd. We moved back to the farm North of Bodo Alberta to help Mckenzie’s Dad at the start of 2021. Its thanks to him we are able to operate our Purebred herd as well as our small Commercial herd. Currently we have 14 purebreds on the farm with the addition of 2 new bred heifers from MacMillan Charolais. We are very excited to add new genetics to our small group. We farm alongside McKenzie’s dad who runs a commercial herd and grain operation which keeps us all busy. Connor is a well operator which allows him to work 8 days on and 6 off giving him lots of time for on the farm while McKenzie works part time as a well operator spending the rest of her time working on the farm. We recently got married in August 2023 and are excited for what 2024 will bring.

We are both newer to the Purebred business but are fortunate enough to have taken on a group of cattle backed by 40 plus years of genetics and experience. As well as having the ability to call and get feedback and advice when we need it. Years of work has gone into this herd to get the absolute best genetics with the focus on great feet, temperament, udders, milk, calving ease and performance. Our main focus will be quality over quantity, we will continue maintaining and improving our cattle’s genetics. We are excited to be able to bring them into Alberta and put our bulls into commercial buyer’s herds.

Our herd both purebred and commercial are on a full herd health program through Border Vet Clinic and receive their nutrient program through GreenBelt Farms. For feed they receive silage, rolled barley and hay.

MXS Lenyx was the bull that came with the cows when we took over from my Grandparents and uncle. There was a lot to like about him he had great length and performance and was very easy to work with. Unfortunately, due to an injury he had to go on his way, but we are grateful for the excellent bulls and heifers he provided us and are very excited to see what our new herd bull HOPEWELL GIBSON 24K has to show.

Biting The Border Bull Sale TERMS & CONDITIONS

TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at the sale unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made previous to the sale. All settlements must be made with the clerk of the sale before any cattle will be released. The Auctioneer shall have the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default in payment or who has not made credit clearance prior to the sale with the owner. All monies are in Canadian funds.

The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made.

DELIVERY: Receive $100 off if your bull is taken home sale day. We will start delivering the bulls shortly after the sale to central points on scheduled deliveries. Please talk to Lyle and Connor for other arrangements. If your bull remains on our farm after May 1 you will be charged $250 per month.

SEMEN: We reserve the right to draw Semen on any bulls at our expense and the buyers convenience. For in herd use.

Any other condition will be announced sale day.

INSURANCE: Any bull returning to the farm must have Insurance on them. With transportation to and from the market & regrouping at home we will take every precaution we can to keep them safe but highly encourage insurance incase of accidents.

DISPUTES: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters is final.

PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable time.

GUARANTEE: All animals will carry standard breeding guarantee as specified by the CCA and the Canadian Charolais Association. At no time shall the seller’s liability exceed the purchase price of the animal. The seller is not responsible for the damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold nor for sickness not apparent at sale time.

EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE: In cases where the animal has been subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void.
