BRIAN WILSON Special to the Advance

The 73’s wrapped up their season with two games this past week. Tuesday, Mar. 1 had Kemptville at the Carleton Place Arena to take on the Canadians. With playoff positioning already determined, this was a game played for pride. Alex Brenton scored the only goal of the first period. The goal was his 32nd of the season and was assisted by Duhn and Armstrong. In the second, Kemptville took control of the game. Andrew Upshall notched his third of the season from Armstrong and Hutton. Then Josh Pitt added his twelfth of the year with assists from Hough and Cameron. Before the end of the period, Keegan Rowe scored his fourth of the campaign, unassisted. The third period saw Carleton Place really pressing and they were able to break the shutout that affiliated goalie, Brad Fraser, had going. Holding a 4-1 lead, the 73’s were not ready to call it a night yet. Another call up, Brock Jessop, extended Kemptville’s

lead to 5-1. The goal was set up by Cameron and Hough again. Then Brock Plouffe, from Brenton and Hough, added his 18th of the year.

The Canadians were able to add one more goal late in the period. Kemptville went home with a 6-2 victory. Brad Fraser, Alex Brenton and Pat Cameron were named the three stars. For the last game of the season, Kemptville traveled to the Earl Armstrong Arena to battle the Gloucester Rangers. It turned out that there wasn’t a battle at all. The Rangers scored three times before Kemptville got on the board at the 8:27 mark of the second period. Josh Pitt scored his thirteenth of the year from Hutton and Lesway. That goal was the last goal of the season for the 73’s. Gloucester went on to score three more times and defeated Kemptville 6-1.

THINK GREEN

Up next for the 73’s is the spring evaluation camp. The camp will be held Friday, April 8 to Sunday, April 10, at the North Grenville Municipal Centre. The Kemptville 73’s invite all prospect players (ODHA) and free agent players born between 1991 and 1994 to this camp. At the conclusion of the camp, each player will be advised of their status with the 73’s for next season, which could be an invitation to the main camp in July. With the CCHL playoffs set to start the week of Mar. 8, the match-ups are all set. The first-place Pembroke Lumber Kings will take on the Smiths Falls Bears sitting in the eighth spot. The Cornwall Colts, who are in second place, will tackle the Kanata Stallions, who are in seventh. The Brockville Braves, in third, challenge the Nepean Raiders, who are in the sixth spot. The Gloucester Rangers in fourth place will battle the Carleton Place Canadians in fifth. There is still an opportunity to catch some exciting Junior A playoff hockey but you will have to travel out of Kemptville to see it.
