“The Washington State Chapter of the American Public Works Association’s partnership with Kelman & Associates has consistently exceeded our expectations. The quality of the publication is exceptional. We have received nothing but rave reviews from our membership and advertisers. The magazine has enhanced the image of our profession and the visibility of our chapter. In addition, I cannot compliment you enough on the support and professionalism of your staff whose knowledge and professionalism has made the magazine an enjoyable and a turn key project for our chapter. Our only regret is that we did not discover your company sooner. The magazine has turned a cost item into a revenue generator.”

“As the founding Chair of the Western Canada Water Editorial Committee, as well as being a former President of the Association, it has been my distinct pleasure to have worked with the publishing team at Craig Kelman & Associates for the past 14 years. The process of negotiating with the Kelman team for three
successive publishing contracts has gone very smoothly, and we look forward to initiating our fourth fi ve-year term later in 2015. The Kelman team has consistently strived to make every quarterly magazine issue and our annual Directory, the best that they can be. We value the long-term relationships with individual Kelman staff as being key to our success. While the excellent quality of service and the final product are of great importance to our 5,000 members/readers, the financial returns to our not-for-profi t association have also been substantial. We are proud that, together, we have developed an excellent publication which other regional water associations have been emulating. Without reservation, I recommend the services of Kelman & Associates to any organization considering a publishing contract.”

Not only do we work tirelessly to meet our client’s communications objectives, but we do so with every thought to their bottom line. Saving our clients money, and generating revenue for them.
Our talented and creative team will dedicate themselves to providing our clients with visually appealing and informative digital and print publications, and we will do so at as little cost to our clients as possible. In fact, our goal is to have each and every publication become a source of revenue for them.
One of the most important benefits of print media is the tangibility factor. Studies have shown that many people prefer print because of the feel of the paper, having it in their hands means that the content is real. Print media is unique in its capability to trigger a number of senses; the feeling of paper, the weight of the publication in their hands, and the smell of the ink all leave a lasting impression on the reader. Triggering multiple senses will add to your ability to engage your membership. Which leads us to our next point.
The key to successful communicating with your audience is engagement. The ability to compete with the proliferation of digital information bombarding people each day is a daunting task. Drawing your members in through visually appealing, attention-grabbing content is a very real benefit to them … and just as importantly, to you.
Business to business print media offers a host of content areas: news, information, education, inspiration, and more, all of which generate engagement between the reader and the organization.
Our publications make sure your message can be accessed easily, is engaging, while being both versatile and creative.
Once you have that engagement with your readers you can educate and inform with credibility and trust.
You have the full attention of your readership. This genuine lack of distractions allows the reader to become fully engrossed in your magazine which has proven to also allow the reader to remember the content better.
People’s lives are becoming more and more intertwined and enmeshed in the online world. They use social media to describe what they do, search engines to help them find whatever they need, YouTube to watch the newest videos and an ever increasing amount of retail sites such to make their purchases.
Our magazines will engage your membership and provide yet another great way to get them online to, perhaps to your website website or Facebook page. With the use of ever evolving technology like QR codes, augmented reality, digital imprints, readers can have immediate access to the most appropriate online page. These technologies form a bridge between print media and an organization’s online presence, inviting member reaction, feedback, purchasing power and event registration, all via a phone, tablet or computer.
Marrying the two formats of print and digital communications is the ideal communications solution: and we are here to help our clients make that ideal solution a reality.
The next two pages will showcase our ability to bring you the best of both worlds.
Studies have proven that print media is the single most trusted source for news and other information and people take time to read a magazine or newsletter delivered directly to their desk or home.
This combination of engagement and trust is essential between any organization and its members.
Very recent research has identified that there are differences in the way people process information presented in print and on screen, be it television, computer or mobile device. The studies have found that those people who read print maintain their focus and capacity to read longer articles as the situation doesn’t offer nearly as many distractions.
With print and electronic communication operating hand-in-hand more and more each year, Kelman & Associates have taken the next step to ensure the mobile editions of their publications are state-of-the-art, highly interactive, yet still user-friendly and easy to navigate. We are always updating our mobile platform to set the standard for what’s new in digital publishing.
Our digital editions recognize which device the viewer is using to read the publication and chooses the appropriate version.
Our enhanced, user-friendly, interactive format includes:
1. Beautiful reading experience - presenting a beautiful digital edition that looks and feels like a real book; from flipping through the pages, realistic page turn sounds and even spine shading all adding to a highly engaging reader experience.
2. A share feature to share the digital publication amongst friends and colleagues via social networks including Facebook, Twitter, email and more.
3. Active hyper-links to all websites and e-mails contained in the publication.
4. Active links to the specific stories from the front cover and contents page.
5. Active links to advertiser websites from their ads.
6. Searchable and zoomable content.
7. The ability to add notes and bookmarks.
As we continue to deliver valuable information through the pages of our magazines, in a printed format that is appealing, reader-friendly and not lost in the proliferation of electronic messages that are bombarding our senses, we are also well aware of the need to be respectful of our environment. That is why we are committed to publishing them in the most environmentally-friendly process possible.
• We use lighter publication stock that consists of recycled paper. This paper has been certified to meet the environmental and social standards of the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) and comes from responsibly managed forests, and verified recycled sources making this a RENEWABLE and SUSTAINABLE resource.
• Our computer-to-plate technology reduces the amount of chemistry required to create plates for the printing process. The resulting chemistry is neutralized to the extent that it can be safely discharged to the drain.
• We use vegetable oil-based inks to print the magazine. This means that we are not using resource-depleting petroleum-based ink products and that the subsequent recycling of the paper in this magazine is much more environment friendly.
• During the printing process, we use a solvent recycling system that separates the water from the recovered solvents and leaves only about 5% residue. This results in reduced solvent usage, handling and hazardous hauling.
• We ensure that an efficient recycling program is used for all printing plates and all waste paper.
• Within the pages of each issue, we actively encourage our readers to REUSE and RECYCLE.
• In order to reduce our carbon footprint on the planet, we utilize a carbon offset program in conjunction with any travel we undertake related to our publishing responsibilities for the magazine.
