Area Director’s message Volume 5, Issue 1 of “Kegalle Keen” is here! I’m your Area Director for Area 2 in Division K, District 82, and I’m pumped to chat about the awesome stuff happening in our Toastmasters family.

Our journey together is pretty cool – it’s about words, community, and getting better at talking and leading. This edition is all about shouting out the wins of individuals and the wins we share as Kegalle Toastmasters.What makes our club rad is you guys!

The energy, dedication, and support each one brings is top-notch. You’re all doing amazing things, from giving speeches to helping out in meetings. It’s all part of our success story.I’m constantly inspired by the vibe in Kegalle Toastmasters. It’s this energy that keeps us going and makes our club feel like a second home. As your Area Director, big shoutout to each of you for making our community awesome.Let’s take a moment to high-five each other for what we’ve achieved so far and get excited about what’s coming. President’s Message It’s a privilege for me to be a part of the Kegalle Toastmasters club. I have had many chances to learn from many talented Toastmasters here on this platform.

As a proud member of our club, I would like to say that the experience I have had so far is invaluable. It’s very easy to work with such a flexible, friendly team. This club has taught me that if you have enthusiasm, commitment, and the right talent, you can go all the way.

Our club is a great place for improving public speaking, and leadership skills, and building the confidence of its members. My team and I all share a common goal: to create several successful leaders and better speakers for society. Being a Toastmaster, I have learned how to be a better communicator, a good speaker, and a good leader, which has helped me balance my work in my professional and personal life.

As the president of the Kegalle Toastmasters Club, I’ve been able to work with a team to achieve a common goal.

It’s very inspiring to see new enthusiastic speakers joining day by day. I’m sure the club will help bring out their potential and help them improve themselves. I encourage each one of you to participate in the club and experience the joy of personal growth.

Unlocking the power of your VOICE

W

hat is the true essence of being a “successful” public speaker?

How can you unleash the ties of stage fright? How can you excel in the art of silence, harnessing the power of pauses in communication? All in all, how can you craft a masterpiece and exhibit it in front of an audience as a “good” public speaker? Well, it is obvious that these questions have to witness a plethora of subjective answers. One might say becoming a “successful” public speaker means “Knowing your audience”, another might say it is “Practice, Practice, Practice” and a common answer might be that art of public speaking is “Non-verbal communication”. These answers are obviously true, but have you ever thought about speaking in public as a creative expression? Indeed, public speaking is similar to performing in an art gallery. It is simple yet artistic. Your stage is a realm where every corner is a canvas, every breeze is a melody, and every moment is an invitation to explore the depth of your creativity. Your responsibility is to make sure that your audience gets the best out of it. You have a vivid colour palate with you.It is called emotions. A “good” public speaker will choose the right colour at the right time. Your words are a rhythm. They are similar to musical notes in a rhythmic pattern. Just as different notes create melodies and harmonies in music, different words create meaning and convey emotions in language. The rhythm of words is the pattern and flow created by their arrangement, pacing and emphasis, much like the beat and the tempo in music. Last but not least master the dance of body language as it adds an extra layer of flavour beyond words. Here you have the key to unlock the power of your voice! Just blend the right amount of colours, rhythms and steps to harness the full potential of your voice. Good luck! Way to go!

However, according to my point of view, Toastmasters is not just an organization; it is a place where you can learn, teach, and grow as a person. Through structured meetings and constructive feedback, members cultivate confidence and articulate communication abilities. Beyond this, Toastmasters opens doors to networking, mentorship, and a supportive community. During my Toastmasters journey I've met and learned from many people in various clubs. Among these is a club nestled in the heart of Sri Lanka, exemplifying this spirit and fostering an enriching environment for its members. Kegalle Toastmasters Club offers an unparalleled experience to sharpen your communication and leadership skills, with a supportive group of members who are always warm and enthusiastic to welcome anyone to the Toastmasters family. I have become a totally different person after joining the Toastmasters, with new skills and greater self-confidence, so what I have to say is embrace Toastmasters, where every speech is a step toward unlocking boundless opportunities for professional and personal development.

ENCOURAGEMENT “The beauty of an individual resides in their imperfections, which make them truly unique and contribute to the vibrancy of our world.”

Can you recall a moment when a loved one graciously drove you forward when your own courage faltered? Can you reminisce about a friend who helped you break through your barriers and achieve the seemingly impossible? Have you ever felt a surge of strength coursing through your veins upon hearing an uplifting word or witnessing a supporting smile?

This phenomenon is known as encouragement, and it has the power to work wonders in the lives of all living beings. Remarkably, the simple act of providing encouragement often costs us nothing, yet it possesses the potential to catalyze profound changes in someone's life. I've come this far because, throughout my entire life, I've been fortunate to be surrounded by persons who consistently uplifted and propelled me forward. I was blessed to have many who never dwelled on my weaknesses but instead provided opportunities for me to shine.

It was precisely what I encountered when I first reached out to TMC Kegalle. It was the overwhelming sensation that splashed over me as I entered a room filled with warm, welcoming faces. It was the force that motivated me to embark on this journey alongside these extraordinary individuals. It was the constructive feedback I received during my initial Round-Robin session and when I delivered my inaugural Table Topic speech. It was the generous and constructive comments offered at the conclusion of the meeting by fellow members and evaluators.

The beauty of an individual resides in their imperfections, which make them truly unique and contribute to the vibrancy of our world. And now, I stand here ready to convey to the world the same gift of encouragement that I've received from such humanity.
