With Guests Hopewell Charolais & Bronyx Angus 9th Annual Bull Sale
Tuesday, March 18th, 2PM AT THE FARM, CHAUVIN, AB
Welcome to our 9th Annual Bull Sale. We’re again glad to have Hopewell Charolais and Bronyx Angus join us on the farm.
As always, our first order of business is to thank our customers for their continued support. Many of you have also become good friends over the years and we very much appreciate the opportunities to work with you.
A second big thank you goes to our family – for the day in and day out jobs, along with the added hustle during calving, processing, silaging and bull sale preparation. Garrett and Amanda have been on the farm for a couple of years now and Brad comes out whenever we need him. We would also be lost without Aaron and Lucas popping out when we need additional hands. Our catalogue has gotten a facelift this year – thanks to our niece Kailey, with K-Cow Designs. We were excited to see what she would come up with and are very happy that she took a few ideas and ran with them.
Bull development has stayed the same as past years. We’ve found that letting the bulls grow on pasture that first summer and then gradually starting them on silage and grain in the fall leaves us with bulls that are naturally athletic and ready to cover th e ground during breeding season. Our philosophy when choosing what animals make the cut has not changed either. We have gotten our cowherd to a place where they are mostly hands-off but still tolerate us tagging and weighing calves. We have been very particular about the new herdsires we have brought in, all to continue building on this foundation. The replacement heifers that we keep for ourselves, and the bulls that we offer for sale, are all chosen for their foot structure, overall correctness and disposition. The sheer amount of time that we spend walking through them to narrow down which ones stay, tells me that it’s been the right move. We would love for you to be our guests on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 for lunch at 12:30 and the sale at 2 PM. Of course, you’re also welcome to come and tour t he bull pen beforehand. If you cannot join us on March 18, be sure to give us a call. If you’d like an independent assessment of the bulls, be sure to reach out to Andrew, Garren or Jesse. Our goal is for you to be comfortable with your purchase and confident that the bulls you’re looking at will meet your needs. You may bid in person, by phone with any of the sale day contac ts, or on DLMS.
See you on March 18!

Any bulls picked up prior to April 1 will be eligible for a $100 rebate.
If you aren’t set up to take your bull and would like him delivered closer to breeding season, we’d prefer if you put insurance on before he goes back to the farm. We take every care with the bulls, but moving them around can reset the pecking order Buyers must take delivery of their bulls by May 1, 2025.
Free delivery of bulls is available to central points and in most cases, right to your farm or ranch. Insurance: Tracey Smith with Stockmens Insurance will be in attendance on sale day. 403-896-2987

Game Day has become a cornerstone sire here. Over the years, he has sired females that are quickly becoming front pasture type cows and the demand for bulls sired by him isn’t slowing down.
We are now seeing some of his sons become highly sought after because he stamps them so consistently. His outstanding genetic combination has a place in both purebred and commercial herds.
The Game Day sons in this year’s sale are a very strong group, out of some of our top-end cows. His hair coat, muscle pattern, foot structure and length of spine will set them apart but the docility that he passes on will ensure that they come up for a scratch when you’re in the pen. Because of this consistency, we felt like we were repeating ourselves in trying to write individual footnotes for these boys.
New this year, we are also offering two semen lots. We have limited the amount of semen that we will offer prior to the 2025 breeding season: We donated 5 straws to the CCYA fundraiser sale in February and Legacy Charolais has also offered 10 straws at their sale on March 2 @ 1 PM.

Gallagher has also become a mainstay in our breeding program. Originally purchased to add some frame back into the herd, his sons are in demand for the length of spine and consistently flawless foot structure that he passes on. The bonus is that, out of 4 calf crops so far, he has polled nearly every calf. We have retained several daughters over the years and they have proven to be excellent mothers with ideal udders and have become the young dams of choice to cross with Game Day. He is a very efficient breeder who basically loads himself in the trailer once his season is done. As with the other sire groups, we felt that the consistency of the Gallagher sons was such that we were repeating ourselves with individual footnotes. This group of bulls is easy to pick out of the pen but really hard to pick apart when you consider the overall correctness of them, coupled with the impeccable foot structure that have become the hallmark of our Gallagher progeny.

Paradox was purchased as an option to add some hair back into any cows that we felt were getting a little flatter haired. The bonus that we found was his calving ease.
We have retained several daughters – across the board, they are very eye appealing and feminine young cows. The sons offered for sale show similar skull shape and hair coat. We do see some variations in size, which can be attributed to differences in their dams’ individual frame.
The 2023 born calves were the last of the Paradox progeny.

We admired the Tank bulls for their depth of body and overall presence. Jamboree was used on several different “types” of cows and worked very well every which way. We are looking forward to calving the daughters in April. The sons all have a similar look, with some differences in frame size, due to the different breeding of their dams. All have dispositions that make them very easy to have around. Unfortunately, we lost him after his first breeding season.

Well, we blinked and it’s bull sale season once again! As we sit and reflect on this past year all we could think about is how grateful we are for the support from our Friends, family and you our amazing customers to allow us to be in this industry. Raising c harolais bulls is all I’ve wanted to do since I was a little boy and I’m thankful to be able to share that passion with my wife Alex. Together we take great pride in continuing the Hopewell name, a dream my grandparents started in 1974.
These are very exciting times for the cattle industry as we continue to see record prices coming through the auction marts with those tan and silver pens topping most sales. We feel confident that the bulls we have on offer will go out, breed your cows, c alve easy, and bring you that Charolais premium in the sale barn.
One thing we have learned from the drought and harsh winters is hard doing and none functional cattle do not last. The foundation of our bull pen is backed by honest, hard working females that we have taken the time to breed for functionality and resilience. These bulls are sired by proven genetics and hand selected for calving ease, vigour and that Charolais growth. A conversation I recently had with a calf buyer, “Charolais calves can’t just be big, they need to have shape and muscle” and that’s exactly what the Balamore Kelce 241K calves bring to the table. You won’t find bulls with more muscle and shape.
We are excited to be marketing our bulls through the Poplar Bluff Stock farms annual bull sale once again and want to send a heartfelt thank you to the Taylor family. We were welcomed with open arms by both the Taylor crew and their customers last year and are looking forward to another great bull sale!
Feel free to reach out to us at anytime if you have any questions or want to tour the bull pen prior to sale.
We’ll see you sale day!

Welcome from BRONYX ANGUS
Hello & Welcome to the 9th Annual Poplar Bluff Stock Farm & Guests Bull Sale. We are extremely excited for the opportunity to offer up this strong set of coming 2 yr old bulls. For those who don’t know us, our cattle operation consists of roughly 300 commercial & 60 purebred cows. In 2005 we started purchasing top proven females from production & dispersal sales of Crescent Creek Angus, Double AA Angus, Saskalta Farms, Lookout Stock Farm, Glen Islay Angus and Remington Land & Cattle. We have worked hard at building the herd to where it is at today. With myself working off the farm during calving, Dad is left by himself for good stretches. He is a very selective cattleman and we expect a lot from our cows – no babysitting and no excuses or they do not stay. We have a checklist that a cow needs to meet in order to stick around. The dams that are pictured in the sale catalog will give you a good idea of the type of cow we like – cows that are consistent producing at the top end of the whole herd - maximizing return with no or very little help during calving.
The bulls on offer are good honest ranch bulls that have been developed with longevity in mind. We feel these beef bulls are the type of cattle that will satisfy the needs of the cow-calf producer, feedlot & packer, while also siring top end uniform replacement heifers. The bulls are currently on a daily TMR ration that consists of oat silage, hay, straw, 14% beef pellet brown oat mix @ 11 lbs per day.
If you have any questions or requests, we are more than happy to help. We stand behind our cattle which are raised to work & we look forward to working with you on sale day & in the future. Please don’t hesitate to come see the cattle at the farm prior to the sale.
Sincerely,
Owen & Bryce Mawbey
Bronyx Angus
Note:
- The weaning weights of the coming 2 yr old bulls were taken on November 10th, 2023 & the yearling bulls on November 20th, 2024.
- We reserve the right to collect in herd use semen on the bulls sold, at the buyers convenience and our expense. - This year we have brought in Mark Forsyth with Castlerock Marketing to assist with any questions about the bulls. Mark toured the cow herd & is very knowledgeable about what we have on offer.
