WHAT’S POPPIN’ SUNNIES!

Hey Division 30 South!! Welcome to the 5th Issue of The Yellow Pages with yours truly! I hope the back-to-school season is passing smoothly and that you are all still safe and healthy. To my fellow seniors, I hope you make the best of this next school year AND Key Club term! To you freshmen Key Clubbers, hello and welcome! Looking back at my time as a freshman, I remember how fun and memorable Key Club events were. I hope the underclassmen out there continue to stay active and carry your respective clubs and Division 30 South to new heights! With the new school year starting up, I wish everyone good mental and physical health! Don’t get too stressed out and take it easy in the beginning! And if you find yourself getting stressed, perhaps you should think about signing up for some service events to help relieve that stress! Some tips on self-care is to drink lots of water, wash your hands often, wear sunscreen, and sleep early! All of these are important especially during the school year, so make sure to keep note of these tips! I hope you all enjoy this issue of The Yellow Pages! 01 | EDITOR'S NOTE

Hello Division 30 South, And welcome to another issue of the Yellow Pages! By the time you read this, the school year has started and I wish you all the best in your classes. With that being said, I would like to CONGRATULATE all of the seniors on making it to their FINAL year in high school! If you are an underclassman, please appreciate and make the most of your time with your seniors because before you know it, they’ll be graduating! It still baffles me that the upperclassmen that have made a huge impact on my Key Club journey are now leaving too university. Their leadership guided me to where I am today and as much as I’ll miss them, I truly wish them the best in their future endeavors. Speaking of leadership, one of the most important aspect of being a leader that I’ve learned over the year as a member, club officer, DLT officer, and a Lieutenant Governor is that communication is KEY. I used to be afraid of letting others know about an issue that I had and that it’d be a burden to officers if I constantly bugged them. Nowadays, I communicate to my officers if an issue arises and not only does it allow the officer to recognize the problem, but a stronger bond is built between that officer and me. I understand that I can’t be the perfect LTG or a perfect leader, but I truly put in my all to serve Division 30 South to the best of my abilities. In a position where communication is significant, I have learned to be outspoken and confident in my responses. I hope that you all can be patient with me as I grow to serve as a stronger leader for you all. Shinin’ with Service,

chri ina nguyen

SPOTLIGHT ON

SERVICE what is the spotlight on service program?

The CNH Spotlight on Service Program (SOSP) was created by the Service Projects Committee to promote District and International Initiatives as well as to encourage active participation with organizations and initiatives. Monthly guides include tips and ideas on how clubs can complete the monthly service initiatives. The program also gives clubs the opportunity to showcase their unique service projects that positively impact their home, school, and community. The Spotlight on Service Program would love to receive project submissions from the District to showcase projects from the previous month in the District Newsletter. SEPTEMBER: PEDIATRIC TRAUMA PROGRAM WHAT IS PTP? PTP is short for Pediatric Trauma Program. Pediatric Trauma is the leading cause of death among children. So what does the Pediatric Trauma Program do? The Pediatric Trauma Program works to reduce the amount of children going through trauma and saving lives. They do this by reaching out to hospitals and donating to fund for research, equipment, and education for our doctors. By donating to PTP we are helping our first responders, nurses and doctors to be fully equipped to aid children facing these problems.

SERVATHON

What’s up Key Clubbers! On Saturday, July 17 from 10AM-12PM, Division 30 South held our very first in-person event, better known as Servathon! OVERVIEW Volunteers from all over our division of 12 schools attended and participated in this service event! We hosted it at West Anaheim United Methodist Church, with the help of many adult chaperones, staff from the church, and our division officers. Members had opportunities to engage in a variety of activities to create goodie bag donations to the church, participate in a small, canned food drive, and purchase foods and drinks from Cypress Key Club in support of their Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) fundraiser.

ASHLYN WONG | WHITNEY

| 06 ACTIVITIES We created drawings as an icebreaker within our groups after checking into the
event and getting temperatures taken. After this, mini tote bags were passed around, along with paintbrushes and paint for each group. These would serve as the goodie bags themselves, which members could paint and decorate however they would like. Next, strings, markers, and paper were passed around for bracelets and cards. At the end of the event, we took a picture together and announced the results for the three winners of the sun plushie giveaway!

RESULT In total, 99 volunteers and 6 chaperones attended the event. We served a total of 198 hours and were able to donate all the goodie bags to West Anaheim United Methodist Church! In addition, we were able to collect a large box-full of canned food donations to donate to the church’s food pantry! Thank you to everyone who was able to come out and participate, we hope you had a lot of fun and are looking forward to our upcoming division events!

FOOD BANK

Division 30 South had the amazing opportunity to volunteer at a Food Bank partnered by the Saddleback Church on July 20th. Members were instructed to pack bags, drop them off in cars, control the lines, and much more. Therefore, the experience was very fun and successful as we were able to serve 600+ families while raising 156 hours in total! - BEVERLY NGUYEN | D30S SERVICE PROJECT COORDINATOR

BOOMBA r e c a p An annual Region 3 event is the ever-infamous Beach Boomba where Key Clubbers across Region 3 which spans all of Orange County and part of LA come meet up at Huntington Beach to have fun and volunteer! Region 3 consists of Division 04 North, Division 04 South, Division 04 West, Division 04 East, Division 04 Central, Division 30 North, and Division 30 South! Last term, due to Covid we were unable to hold it in person but this year, luckily, we were able to hold it once again. In the beginning, I had driven to the wrong beach, and had to walk 3 miles from one beach to another in order to make it to the event, but it was worth it in the end. It was really cool to meet people from other divisions, which is normally something that we don’t get to do as well. Looking at everyone from afar, one would think that it was a rainbow sea because everyone was wearing their respective division color, creating a rainbow, the signature of Region 3. While I had personally came late, I found out through my friends that they had done a clothespin ice breaker, and relay races. Then there was a bonding activity where teams did tasks on a sheet of paper like taking photos with lieutenant governors and lifeguard towers! After all that was finished, it was time for lunch. Pizza and snacks were our lunch and I sat at a table where we squished Oxford’s and Whitney’s board together. Once lunch was over, we got to watch the LTGS get pied and splashed with water balloons. Lastly, it was time for each division to have their own DCM, before starting a beach clean-up. The only thing I wished I remembered to do before was put on some sunscreen because I came home to sunburnt arms, a farmer’s tan and blisters from walking from one beach to another yet I’m still glad I was able to make it to Beach Boomba in the end.

13 | CLUB SPOTLIGHT: MAGNOLIA

spotlight:

MAGNOLIA KEY CLUB PRESIDENT’S PROFILE name: TOMMY DUONG school: MAGNOLIA KEY CLUB class: 2022 Hi Suns!!!! My name is Tommy Duong, I’m an upcoming senior, and I’m the president for Magnolia Key Club :D I’m looking forward for this year’s term!

- fun facts -

1. I love to play games 2. I love hiking 3. My favorite food is Korean hotdogs

what made you want to be president? As a member serving for the community, I’ve always dreamed of being a president to give new upcoming members the same experience I had when coming to Key Club. Knowing that being a president came with a lot of responsibilities, I decided to take on the role to provide members the happiness that Key Club gave me.

when was your key club moment?

My Key Club moment was when I saw officers at club rush wearing their spirit gear, their pride in their club made me very eager to join.

why did you join key club? I joined Key Club because my best friend invited me to join a service event the division was having and when I first attended it, I knew that Key Club was the perfect club for me.

what do you love most about your club? What I love most about my club are the people that helped impact it. My officers and members are devoted to serving the community and it’s honestly what makes me happy.

what are your goals for the 2021-2022 term? My goals for this term is to raise a lot of service hours for our club and to end off the note knowing I’ve impacted my club in a way.

MAGNOLIA KEY CLUB snapshot

| 14

In the month of July, Magnolia Key Club served over 335 hours of service due to an exponential growth in member participation. We’ve also had our very first fundraiser raising $75 for the Pediatric Trauma Program. We also plan on having a service project with Western High School along with a social with Western and Anaheim. Magnolia Key Club plans to sell brownies along with cookies and ice cream as a topping. For the month of September, Magnolia plans to show our spirit during club rush and push the amount of service hours we’ve accomplished in the past even further.

Helen Tran | Executive Assistant

Sofia Ysabel Gange | Fundraising Coordinator

my nickname is “mimi,” and i actually go by it outside of school! it originated from my at-home name being “mi,” which was way easier for my vietnamese parents to pronounce than helen. i don’t mind being called either, though it does cause some confusion when my outside friends meet my school friends haha

In general - blobfish. Since my Instagram username and my school profile pictures are blobfishes, the nickname stuck.

Sania Usmani | Executive Assistant

Anika Kasula | Fundraising Coordinator

I don't have a nickname and I'm not sure why, I guess my name is pretty short so I don't really need one LOL

I do not have a nickname most likely because my five-letter name is short enough :)

Beverly Nguyen | Service Projects Coordinator

Raquel Romero | Publicity Coordinator

My nickname is either "Namverly" or Bev.

Annie Le | Historian

Kaylin Chan | Historian

Saadhvi Narayanan | Spirit Gear Coordinator

Yes! I do have a nickname, but it's in Chinese, and usually only my family calls me that. My friends did give me one, but no one really uses it, so it wasn't really established as a nickname. It was KK (my first initial repeated twice).

Yes, one of my best friends calls me Saadhs.

Tina Tran | Tech Editor

Allan James Quintos | Member Recognition Chair

Of course I do, I have so many! Tina Minaj, Libra Queen, Tiwa, Tinar, Miss Steak, the list goes on!

Although my first name is "Allan James", you can just call me Allan! However, I do have a nickname that my family calls me which is "AJ", so if you feel as though you like AJ, I will be totally okay if you use that as well.
