JUNE DCM/OTC
ULISES CEJA CASTREJON | SAVANNA On Saturday, June 11th, the officer training conference took place along with the June DCM. Most officers from Region 3 were present, and this event took place in Costa Mesa High School from 11 am to 5 pm. We checked in up until 11:45, and then we had a guest speaker who talked about her journey with Key Club. Later on, around noon, we were given lunch, which was pizza yes! After lunch was over, we did a short ice breaker. Then we had our June DCM, and talked a bit with our own school club members, took some selfies, and went inside the theater. In the theater, the LTGs introduced themselves and did a small, but funny sketch of their rendition of the princess and the frog and sent us off to our first workshop. I was in the bulletin editor/historian workshop. This was very helpful and fun because we got to meet other people in the same position, and learn more ways we can improve posts, using graphics, or fonts. When the first workshop was over we had a ten-minute break and went to our second workshop at 3. I went to the Officer Expectations + Duties workshop, which was a rundown of what each member does, and the importance of communication between each one of us. After the second workshop finished we went back to the theater for the closing session where a guest speaker told us about the children's book festival. We were also informed about some upcoming events, and that was the day. It went by so quick, and it was very fun to meet and just see so many new people, and all come together.

BANANA BASH SOCIAL MIKAYLA LUU | JOHN F. KENNEDY Calling all minions! John F. Kennedy KC, Oxford Academy KC, Savanna KC, and Western KC all worked together under Gru to host a joint social! This took place at La Palma Central Park on June 25th from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. There were a variety of goodies sold by each school, like banana milk and minion rice krispies. OAKC even sold small minion tattoos that many enjoyed applying on their faces and arms! To start off the social, supplies to make minion hand puppets were distributed while members held casual conversation. After the service activity ended, everyone was scrambled around, for example, those assigned “Kevin” or “Bob” would all gather in their respective groups to share Key Club memories. The piñata event was based on trivia questions. Members were given a swing at the piñata depending on their answers to questions about our division, Kiwanis, and more. Candy spilled out only a couple hits after the start, and everyone was allowed to help themselves. For the rest of the event, there was free time to take pictures with home clubs and our banana bash sign! Oxford Academy member, Ashley Chen (11), thought the theme was adorable to begin with, but with each club's themed fundraisers, she was able to enjoy the atmosphere even more. Although only for a short time period, this social was super fun and successful!

JUNE FOOD BANK RYAN DANG | OXFORD It was just a normal Saturday, waking up at 7AM to go to my event. I went over to my dad’s room to print out my sign-in form as usual and leave, but the printer stopped working. I start to panic, it’s my first event and my sign-in form isn’t printed out yet. I messaged my friend to print it for me, even though it would be late, but somehow the printer started to whirr back to life. Aside from that setback, June Food Bank was far from ordinary for me. Although I have helped at Food Banks many times, and have checked in people as a helper, this time it felt different. From waiting awkwardly to talk to the main coordinators to taking my first group picture with me in front, the 4 hours I spent felt so magical. I felt so comfortable, weaving in and out of cars, smiling, and seeing how the new freshmen looked up to me. Having people go up to you and ask how to help around brings a different feeling that I cannot describe. My first division event in this new term is something I will never forget, and I am so thankful for OAKC’s support. We brought the most members, and it was so great to see everyone helping out and having fun! I hope you all will come out to my events soon, and hopefully you’ll have a great time.

SPOTLIGHT on service WHAT IS THE SPOTLIGHT ON SERVICE PROGRAM? The CNH Spotlight on Service Program was created by the Service Projects Committee to promote International and District initiatives as well as to encourage active participation with organizations/initiatives. The Service Projects Committee will provide monthly guides that include tips and ideas on how clubs can complete the monthly service initiatives. Check out the monthly guides below to get some ideas for your club's service projects. The program also gives clubs the opportunity to showcase their unique service projects that positively impacts their home, school, and community. The Spotlight on Service Program would like to receive project submissions from the District to showcase projects from the previous month in the District Newsletter. Receive recognition and inspire someone with your creative project ideas.
