DONNIE MARTIN BENEFIT

A benefit to help Donnie “Duck” Martin will be held at the American Legion Hall in Palmyra, Mo., on September 20 beginning at 6 p.m. A meal of BBQ pork, cheesy potatoes, baked beans and dessert will be served and a live auction will be held. Martin was recently in an accident and spent over 45 days in Blessing Hospital ICU and recovery. He is self employed and father of two sons, Cody age 18 and Dylan age 16. MUSIC PROGRAM PRESENTS SUE KENNEDY

The Lewis County Agricultural Fair Association, Inc., will present Reality Records Nashville Recording artist, Sue Kennedy, in her Family Music Program, featuring students from Canton R-V elementary school on Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. Students learn about positive character values through a unique, music performance.

The dedication of a new memorial at the American Legion Hall in Lewistown took place during Lewistown Appreciation Day on Sept. 13. Mayor Steve McKenzie dedicated the memorial to all veterans and their families. Relay for Life Event held September 20 The annual Relay for Life event will be held Saturday, September 20 at Martin Park from noon to midnight. In case of rain the event will be moved to the Canton R-V big gym. Signs will be posted at the park to direct attendees to the gym. Events begin at noon with the Official Relay Opening. Walkers will begin their laps around the track and games will be open. Survivor registration begins at at 1 p.m. and is open until 5:45 p.m The Heartland Christian Academy Band is scheduled to perform at 2 p.m. Bingo and the corn hole tournament also begins at 2 p.m. Morgan Jennings musical performance, along with Bingo will be at 3 p.m. The Welcome Address with the blessing by Pastor Ted Middleton and the national anthem will be at 4 p.m. The hero of hope will be honored and the survivor reception will be at 5 p.m. An article on this year's Hero of Hope, the late Allen Catron, is on page 2A of this

be at 11:30 p.m. Games, food vendors and other activities are scheduled. The public is invited and encourage to attend.

Lewis County IDA Director To Retire William B. Smith, Executive Director of the Industrial Development Authority, and the Lewis County Port Authority, has announced his retirement. The IDA and Port Authority Board of Directors met September 9 and accepted Smith's resignation. Smith has served as the Executive Director of the Authority since February of 2007. He was appointed Director of the Port Authority in 2011, and he as

served in that capacity without compensation. Smith said, “I am pleased and honored to have served in this capacity. I have truly enjoyed working with the citizens of Lewis County to improve the economic climate.” During his tenure with the IDA, Smith was instrumental in establishing a county-wide Enhanced Enterprise Zone, obtaining a two million dollar Community Development

Block Grant, and the expansion of Ursa Farmers Cooperative's grain elevator serving area farmers throughout Northeast Missouri. Smith further stated “I am very grateful to Sharon Lambert and Jim Upchurh of Canton for their expertise and assistance in these projects.” Bill and his wife, Barb, plan to spend more time with family and friends. They are the parents of Shawna Davis and

husband C.J., of Logansport, Indiana, and Nathan Smith and wife, Amy, of O'Fallon, Mo., Smith said, “We have five grandchildren, Caden, Colin, Tracy, Carter and Kathleen, that we want to spoil at every opportunity.” Board President, Steve Ayers, has appointed a search committee seeking a replacement for Smith who will continue to serve until his successor is appointed.
