YOUTH CENTER FUND DRIVE

The LaGrange Community Youth Center will have its annual open house and fund drive on Feb. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. Everyone is invited to stop in and enjoy refreshments and visit with board members, students and volunteers.

SYDNEY MEAD BENEFIT

A benefit will be held for 11 year old Sydney Mead Feb. 7 at the Calwell Building in Canton. Sydney was dianosed with recurrent acute lymphocytic leukemia. All funds will go to Sydney’s medical and travel expenses. Events begin at 10 a.m..

HIGHWAY 16 BRIDGES RESTRICTIONS

The North Fabius River Bridge on Missouri Route 16 just west of Monticello has been reduced to a one lane bridge with temporary signals in place. Also, the bridge over the Middle Fabius River also on MO 16 has been load posted with a restriction of 15 mph for any trucks over 21 tons.

The veterans held several fundraisers over the past year and donated money to the Honor Flight Program. Pictured are Jon Sterner, Carlos Fernandez, Richard Pace, Steve Daughtrey and Dave Bader. The veterans donated the money so that local veterans would have the opportunity to go on an honor flight and visit the war memorials in Washington, D.C.

Gamm Offers Free Classes Gamm, Incorporated and students from Culver-Stockton College are teaming up to offer three one-hour classes free of charge at the Gamm office in LaBelle. The student instructors are members of the college’s Institute of Management Accountants Student Chapter. Participants may choose from any of the three classes and may attend as many as they wish. Classes will be one hour long and will include two social media sessions on Twitter and Instagram and setting up

and managing a Facebook account. The third class will be developing spreadsheets using Excel software. Participants are asked to bring their own smartphone, laptop, or tablet for the classes, however, laptops with Excel software will also be available for participants who may not have a laptop. “We know there are many in our surrounding communities that want to find ways to connect with family and friends using social media, but do not have the skills to do so.

These classes are for beginners and those who have experimented with social media, but have questions or need further guidance. The Excel class is designed to teach participants how to develop simple spreadsheets for budgeting, managing personal finances, or other needs,” said Patti Meldrum, Executive Director of Gamm, Incorporated. “Some people will choose to attend all three sessions in one evening, and some may attend different classes on different

Several Candidates Run Unopposed In Upcoming Elections Several towns in the county will hold local elections in April with Mayor positions being contested in LaBelle and LaGrange. In Ewing, current alderman Dean Wagy is the only candidate for the mayor position. Current Mayor Linda Lueckenhoff is not seeking another term. Cliff Wade has signed up for the Second Ward position and no one signed up for an alderman position in Ward One. In Lewistown, incumbents have each signed up for the North and South Wards and

are unopposed. Each position is a two year term. In the Canton City election, incumbent Jarod Phillips has filed for the Mayor position. Robin Bracey has signed up for Ward One; Kevin Carlin for Ward Two and Sharon Upchurch for Ward Three. LaBelle is seeking a mayor with two people signing up for that position, incumbent Larry Hackemack will face Amy Turpin. Roger Scott has signed up for the South Ward, which has one term open and for the North Ward with two positions open, Roy

Lewis and Jesse Rogers have signed up. The LaGrange City election has two people vying for the Mayor's position. Incumbent Ronnie Powers will face Mike Lowe. One person signed up for each of the council positions in each ward. Jason Kaylor for North Ward, incumbent Ed Cox for Middle Ward and Tim Kaylor for South Ward. Most of the elections will be held on April 7, 2015. The LaGrange election will be held April 21, two weeks later than the other towns in the county.

For the Lewis County C-1 School Board, Donna Reed is the lone candidate for the unexpired term of the late Donna Collier. Incumbent Neil Jennings is the only candidate signed up with two positions open. Each term is a three year position. The Canton R-V School District will not hold an election because the number of candidates was equal to the number of open positions. Hank Fisher and Lacy Spurgeon will be sworn into office at the school Board's reorganizational meeting.
