Greetings!
On behalf of The Jordan McNair Foundation, welcome to our 5th Anniversary Year. We’re so glad that you are joining us for such a remarkable evening. We are especially honored to have one of our staunch supporters, Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman, as our keynote speaker. Our relationship spans several years while she served in the Maryland House of Delegates and sponsored several of the bills proposed by The Jordan McNair Foundation.
While we continue to experience student athlete deaths across the country, we are so happy that Maryland has taken the lead in passing legislation that will make a huge difference for years to come by mandating coaches training in CPR, AED, First Aid and Cold Water Immersion techniques. Maryland has set a standard in legislation that other states want to model.
What we’ve learned as we celebrate 5 years of community education and empowerment is that the message of education, awareness and prevention has to be kept simple. Coaches, parents and student athletes need simple takeaways that can easily be remembered. Therefore, the 3 takeaways from this event are:
1) Coaches – Receive life-saving certifications and develop and rehearse venuespecific Emergency Action Plans.
2) Parents – Ask critical questions BEFORE registering your child(ren) for sports and make sure to provide all medical information for your child(ren).
3) Students – Learn how to listen to your bodies and speak up if there is discomfort or something doesn’t feel right.
There is no doubt that The Jordan McNair Foundation has made a tremendous difference in helping to save the lives of student athletes. The work won’t stop after this event as we strive to reduce the number of student athlete deaths to zero. With your continuous help, we can continue to save lives! *************************************

Brooke Lierman
Brooke Lierman is the 34th Comptroller of the state of Maryland and the first woman to be independently elected to one of our state’s constitutional offices. After running a strong, policy-focused and grassroots-led two-year campaign, she was elected with over 60% of the vote in November 2022. She is an attorney by training, practicing as a civil rights and disability rights lawyer for many years, and prior to her election as Comptroller, she served for 8 years a member of the House of Delegates representing part of Baltimore City. While in the House, she spent time in leadership roles on both the Appropriations Committee and the Environment and Transportation Committee. Additionally, she was the House Chair for the Joint Committee on Pensions, sat on the Joint Committee on Ending Homelessness, and founded the Maryland Transit Caucus. Brooke successfully passed landmark legislation to invest in and improve public transit and public schools; end suspension and expulsion of young students; fund evidence-based gun violence prevention programs; aid sex trafficking victims; close loopholes in affordable housing laws, and create the office of statewide broadband. As Comptroller, she is dedicated to creating a Maryland that is more equitable, more resilient, and more prosperous so that all Marylanders can reach their full potential. She and her husband and two school-age children live in Baltimore City.
