Greetings, Parents, Guardians, Family, Friends, and Guests,
The Board of Directors of the Ebony Pearls Foundation of San Diego Inc. welcomes you to the sixty-eighth Annual Youth Leadership Gala, “Ebony Pearls…A Mystique Affair: The Tale of an Enchanted Pearl.” This event marks a significant milestone in the lives of the young women being presented tonight. This is an auspicious occasion, not only for the Ebony Pearls but also for parents/guardians, friends, and all of us who are present to share in tonight’s experience.
With great perseverance, patience, and productivity, the 17 Ebony Pearls participated in several months of leadership workshops, cultural events, social experiences, and community service projects. These activities have enabled each one to grow socially, emotionally, spiritually, culturally and to have the opportunity to bond with other young women and establish friendships that will transcend the season and continue for many years to come.
The board appreciates parents/guardians for entrusting us with your Ebony Pearls. We understand that participation for the young women is a family affair which requires the ongoing support and assistance of parents/guardians. We commend the young men, our escorts and marshals, who have participated and served admirable fulfilling their roles and responsibilities.
We salute the women who have provided leadership to this year’s leadership program, General Chairman, Shawanda McGuire and Co-Chairman, Reverend Tara Cador-Turner along with the numerous committee chairmen and co-chairmen and committee members who worked diligently and tirelessly to ensure the leadership program continues to be exemplary. The San Diego Community greatly benefits from the efforts and dedication of the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® and The Ebony Pearls Foundation of San Diego Inc.® who continue the beautiful legacy of the annual Youth Leadership Program and gala.

P.O. Box 881473, San Diego, Ca 92168 EIN# 84-2350224

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Welcome to the San Diego Chapter (Epsilon Xi Omega) of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and Ebony Pearls Foundation signature event. We are excited that you chose to join us in this spectacular celebration tonight, where we will honor the achievements of 17 outstanding high school young ladies who successfully completed the Ebony Pearls Youth Leadership Academy. The purpose of providing a youth leadership academy to young ladies poised to begin their secondary education, is to ensure they are ready to tackle all challenges and to ensure that they are exposed to opportunities that may not have been known to them before.
For example, they may not have been familiar with the scholarship opportunities we sponsor. They may not have known about our assistance with college applications. They may have learned information about new careers by attending a mock trial in California Superior Court and career day workshop.
In addition to receiving assistance, these young ladies contributed to their community by donating supplies to the Child Hunger Initiative Power Pack (CHIPP) and supporting the community celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr. Day of Service by packing food bags for the CHIPP program. This culminating gala event allows the young ladies to showcase their ballroom dancing talents, honed by a multitude of rehearsals, while they glide gracefully across the floor and under the sparkling chandeliers.
Thank you to all the sorority members who volunteered to guide these young ladies through seven months of activities. Special thanks to the 2023/2024 leadership for this program: General Chairman Shawanda McGuire; and General Co-Chairman Rev. Tara Cador-Turner.
Sincerely,
Dr. Emma Turner, President Epsilon Xi Omega Chapter Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®

Greetings and Congratulations Ebony Pearls,
As the General Chairman, it is with sincere gratitude that I welcome and thank you for attending our 68th Ebony Pearls Leadership Ball, “A Mystique Affair, The Tale of an Enchanted Pearl.” Working diligently with my hardworking and compassionate sorority sisters, terrific parents, and this exceptional and gifted group of Ebony Pearls on a season filled with fellowship and growth has been a pure delight.
It has been a blessing and my pleasure to see these young ladies cultivate and develop through our unique Leadership Enhancement Program, designed to provide leadership skills that prepare young ladies to become future leaders.
This year’s class of 17 distinguished Ebony Pearls is unique and accomplished. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching these young ladies fully embrace the leadership program experience by attending each session and actively participating. They have formed new lifelong friendships, leadership skills, health, cultural, and political awareness, all leading to their growth. Parents, thanks for investing in our Ebony Pearls Leadership Program. I hope we have exceeded your expectations as you entrusted us with further nurturing and developing your precious daughters.
To my distinguished Ebony Pearls. Over these past six months, you have been a pure delight. You have brought light, joy, and happiness with your beautiful smiles and personalities. You have reached a significant milestone. This amazing accomplishment is just one step on your journey. As you reach your aspirations, never forget the leadership skills you are equipped with. Keep blossoming and growing into the woman you envision. Remember to affect change in all you do, reaching for the stars, breaking glass ceilings, and leading with poise.
To all of the committee chairman and co-chairman. I’m thankful for your dedication, consistency, long hours, and hard work that was needed to make this year’s culminating event a success. I appreciate your steadfast dedication to our leadership academy and Ebony Pearls. My sisters, you genuinely know what it is to “Soar in Sisterhood and Service to all Mankind.”
Thanks to the families and everyone in attendance this evening. Your continued support is greatly needed and appreciated.
Best Regards,

The first Epsilon Xi Omega (EXO) Chapter Debutante Ball was in 1955 and founded by Member Barbara Anderson under the leadership of Anna Smith as President. The initial purpose of the Ball was to enrich the cultural opportunities for Negro girls. That purpose has been expanded to encourage and cultivate high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among high school females and their escorts, to enhance the social skills, of youth between the ages of sixteen and nineteen, to develop leadership skills and to contribute monetary resources for maintaining an interest in college life.
Over a period of 61 years, EXO has mentored over 1,000 future scholars and community leaders in its Debutante Leadership and Enhancement programs.
